”Give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear . . .” 29 SECONDS is the first book that I've read by T.M. Logan, I’m looking forward to reading his debut thriller, LIES.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm tired of people not taking sexual harassment as a serious issue. It is. - Eva Gutowski
I am 63 years old and I can honestly say that I don't know any women who are close to me over my lifetime that haven't experienced sexual harassment, including myself, at least once if not multiple times.
When I was in my 20s and 30s it was rampant in the workplace and just about anywhere you went.
I don't think it's much better nowadays, maybe just a bit more hidden from public view.
This is a story about Sarah, working at Queen Anne University in England, and sexually harassed by her boss every chance he gets. I wasn't a huge fan of Sarah for putting up with it as long as she did...but her boss was a total pig.
This is a story of "what ifs." What if you were given the chance to have someone disappear totally without your name being involved? What if you finally got tired of the harassment and the threats and decided to fight back?
This was a fast-paced enjoyable thriller with a great ending. It brought a lot of bad memories flooding back to me that I thought I'd covered pretty well but I think it's time all of us remember the harassment we've suffered (and it's not just women) and it's time for change.
I received this book from St. Martin's Press through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

T. M. Logan has done it again in his sophomore effort and delivered another thriller that will keep you turning pages late into the night. I particularly liked the beginning and the ending with its delicious twist. The middle stretched my credulity just a bit but I have to say, it did make for a very interesting plot.
I thought the author covered sexual harassment in the workplace extremely well: how difficult it is to go up against a powerful man, especially if he's your boss; how hard it is to prove the charges; how it's often a matter of 'he said, she said; how it might mean losing the career you've worked so hard to build.' In this case, who is the university going to believe, back up? The lowly temporary teacher or the highly-regarded professor who's a tv star and has brought in grants for millions of pounds?
Saw this on the news today, 9/6/19, under the headline: A Record Fine for Underreporting Sex Crimes.
"Education Department fines Michigan State $4.5 million for failing to report sexual violence, including abuse of hundreds of women by former team doctor. The penalties signal toughened enforcement of federal disclosure laws."
Perhaps we need more tough punishments so the powers that be will finally decide it's not worth it to protect these heinous sexual abusers and begin to take such accusations seriously. #MeToo!
In this story, smart thinking came up with a fitting punishment that fit the crime. Great ending! Hurray!!
I received an arc of this new thriller from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!

Wow...what a great book!! It deals with the very real problem of sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace. Sarah is at end of her rope dealing with her boss Alan's harassment and threats. She was offered an interesting solution by the father of a little girl whose kidnapping she prevented one afternoon. All it takes is a 29 second phone call. She eventually makes her decision and what happens afterward will have you holding your breath as Sarah tries to protect herself and her loved ones. There is an unexpected twist at the end, and I must admit to cheering...just a little.
This is the first book by this author that I've read and I'm very glad that I took the chance. I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

29 Seconds did not capture me as completely as Morgan’s first novel. However, there were a couple of moments that had me eagerly turning the page.
Sarah is struggling to prove herself in a workplace controlled by Alan Hawthorne. Hawthorne rakes in million-dollar grants for the university where Sarah works―so his inappropriate treatment of female colleagues behind closed doors has gone unchallenged for years. When Hawthorne's advances become threatening, Sarah is left with nowhere to turn.
This is Morgan’s second novel and I have the same issues with this book as I did with his first novel, Lies. The story starts off well enough, but the middle just ddddrrrrrraaaagggggsssss! While Lies was saved by the ending, the ending of this novel didn’t do much for me. I didn’t feel satisfied despite the fact that Morgan answered all my questions and closed all the doors. While the plot is interesting, I didn’t find it all that believable and perhaps that is why I wasn’t satisfied when I closed the book.
29 Seconds was a pleasant enough way to pass the time, but I also didn’t find myself eager to pick up my Kindle and read. I found myself skimming sections more often than not. I’ll close by saying that I hope the third time is the charm for Morgan to grab this reader with a fantastic story.

There is always a bit of doubt that an authors follow up book to a brilliant debut will not maintain that brilliance, sometimes it doesn’t..... but in the case of T.M.Logan it does and even slightly betters it
Our main character Sarah ( who I loved more or less instantly ) is bullied by her TV presenter of a boss.....he wants sex in return for his promises of promotion......he is a bully who thrives on his harassment and sexual gratification of his staff, peiple ate scared of him, he makes their lives a misery.....there will never be any change, he has too much power, money and authority......then Sarah witnesses an event and helps avert a tragedy....her ‘reward’ for this from a grateful and very wealthy Russian is she can have one person ‘disappear’ from her life, forever.....she has 72 hours to decide whether to accept this ‘offer’, the call, if she makes it on the mobile phone with 1 number in the memory will only take ‘29 seconds’......and so follows a wonderfully past paced story of decisions, repercussions and nail biting tension ( hard to say much more as would ruin the story if give too much away)
The book does not give up the excitement or twists
and turns....right up until the last sentence and I really enjoyed the ‘will she, wont she?’, ‘has she, hasn’t she’ throughout the whole book
It was also very interesting to put Sarahs choice (s) as a question to yourself, the reader and decide what you would do given the choice (s) she found herself having to make, its great to read her absolute disbelief how her life had changed in an hour!
Great story telling and descriptive writing and wonderful characters....sone who you will love.......and some you will hate, passionately!!!!
This was one of those books that when I wasn’t reading it the last few days ( and nights!! ) It was on my mind and wanted to get back to it to see what had happened
A unique, great concept, genuine edge of your seat page turner that gives thrills and excitement and a really really good read and IMO would make a brilliant film

This book was so good! I was entranced from the first page onward and it never slowed its pace or lost its appeal. The short chapters were compulsively readable and fast-paced, and the nature of the writing and plot itself was nothing short of addictive.
There were admittedly a few times that I felt that one of the characters’ behavior screamed guilty and I wanted this person to keep their cool and stop acting so obvious and cliched. But never having been in a similar situation myself, I can’t honestly say I would behave any differently...though after all the mysteries I’ve read, I would sure hope not!
I also had no idea how things would wrap up, but wrap up nicely they did with a few delicious surprises.
29 Seconds was a clever, thoughtful, heart-pounding, fast-paced story and I’m so glad I had a chance to read it. It enraged me, but also moved me and made me think. It had characters I wanted to pummel, and others I could cheer for. It was an absolute winner in my book!

It is a fast-paced story with some good twists and I read it in two sittings. I could not predict the ending and that was a really good one for me.
Sarah gets a one-time offer - “Give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear.” Who will she choose. It’s a no brainer as she chooses her boss who has been sexually harassing her, who keeps blackmailing her. But it fails and she is now in an even bigger mess than earlier. How she handles the situation is really interesting as the author keeps throwing some major curve-balls midway and at the end.
Definitely worth adding it to TBR.

A spellbinding rea! Sarah has a problem with her supervisor Alan. This story will hold your attention all through to the end. What do you do when you feel trapped with no where to turn. Sarah is facing harassment and discrimination at work. At home she has problems with her husband. She only wants to do her job and support her children.
When the chips are at there lowest she finds the people she can trust are her dad, best friend and a stranger who owes her a debt. You will be surprised and mesmerized as the story unfolds and she finds the perfect solution to her problem. Something you definitely read more than once without skipping any words or pages and still feel highly satisfied.

I have never read a book by this author, nor have I heard of them prior to reading this book, but this will definitely not be the last I will read from them. I absolutely loved this book! The twists and turns in the plot kept me going, partially from anger at what was happening to the main character, and partly because I needed to know the end. I needed resolution!
The book follows a woman, Sarah, who works at a University as an academic/lecturer. She has 2 children who she is raising basically as a single mother. She is being targeted by one of the heads of the department there, and "untouchable" man by the name of Alan Hawthorne. Alan uses his money and power to get whatever he wants, and he destroys Sarah a little every day, and many others too. The question is, would you enact revenge on someone ho is evil and coldhearted, like Alan Hawthorne....maybe all it would take would be 29 seconds.

Thank you to Netgalley for my advance reader copy of 29 Seconds in exchange for my honest review!
29 Seconds changes Sarah's life. She's a kinda single mom (her husband has ran off to find himself...with another woman) with 2 small children balancing her career and home life. Her father is around to help her out at the drop of a hat and she couldn't make it without him. Her work life...
Her boss is an @$$hat. She's trying to make it as a permanent employee at the university she works at. The only way she can guarantee herself to climb up the ladder is to get into her boss' pants. Yeah, he's that kind of scum bag.
This books hits us with a little bit of drama as she witnesses a little girl almost get kidnapped. What unravels after that will have you savoring every page of this book. It becomes an unstoppable ride that will have your heart pounding until you know the outcome.
This kept me on the edge of my seat. There was a lot of suspense built up. Plans were drawn up and failed. What was going to happen?!? I can't say much because I'll give the whole book away. I was pleasantly happy with the ending with finding out all that happens. I felt the ending was a tad bit rushed, but it didn't take away from the story.
Solid 4 star read. There's no doubt that this is a well written thriller. It kept you in suspense and had you trying to figure out the mystery of everything. It was such a clever plan...there's no way you could guess it unless you have psychic powers. If you did read this and you guessed how everything unfolded, you're lying...and guide me to the winning lottery numbers, haha. Great thriller to put on your bookshelf!

29 seconds is a slightly different take on the Me, Too movement. Sarah teaches at a British college, and her department head brazenly abuses his position to wield sexual power over his female subordinates. His prior victims have been trapped, but Sarah, through a fluke, is offered a potentially lethal way out.
The book is thrilling and suspenseful, but I found myself quibbling with some of the details. Usually I love books where an overburdened protagonist uses smarts and guts to best the adversary. In this case, I couldn't get a handle on just who Sarah is.
She does a lot of dithering about whether she should avail herself of this proposed solution (granted, it is a true moral dilemma), but it makes her seem an extremely passive, stereotypically feminine woman who has somehow made her way into academia (as a PhD-holding contract lecturer.) She reminisces about a very rowdy and rebellious stage in her teen years, but that doesn't match up with anything we are shown in the Sarah of today.
Speaking of inconsistencies, her hated supervisor is sometimes called Hawthorne and sometimes Lovelock. Several passages seemed not to have been edited, which can happen in an advance reader's copy -- but this book was published last year in the UK, so it seemed we American readers would have gotten the digital version of the published book. Hmmm.
And then the dramatic resolution seemed offer us a third, entirely different Sarah. Don't misunderstand-- this was a good read, but it didn't meet my expectations (maybe because of the setting in higher education, whose standards it did not meet?)
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC.

This is an entertaining thriller if that is what you are looking for; it moves quickly, has some good twists and turns, and is topical in its plot devices surrounding the Me Too movement. However, I will say I had to suspend belief at times or I would have gotten frustrated. If you're able to do that, it's a roller coaster of a ride. Sarah is a young college professor, single mom of two young kids, trying to get tenure at a British university, but unfortunately she works for a sexist pig. Luckily for Sarah, she is owed a debt by a wealthy but criminally active man who can solve her problem for her. The action takes off from there. Will it make you turn pages? Yep. Is it competently written? Yep. Is it memorable? Not so much, for me. It's what I would call an absorbing beach read, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! Thanks to Net Galley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller by a new-to-me author and I will definitely read more from this author and highly recommend this book. It is also an extremely quick read and not one of those where you have to keep track of a million plots.

Sarah learns that a lifetime can completely change in the matter of 29 seconds in this psychological thriller from T. M. Logan. Sarah battles severe sexual harassment from her boss and is in an unsolvable quandary. As payback for a favor, she has the opportunity to eliminate one person from her life for good. What ensues is a multitude of completely unexpected events which put Sarah’s life in peril.
I flew through this and enjoyed it a lot. The plot was original and it had several unpredictable twists. The only negative, and it is very minor, was that I found certain elements, such as Sarah’s thought processes in regards to her boss, to be repetitive at times. Regardless, I highly recommend to all fans of psychological fiction looking for a fun, quick read.
Many thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and T. M. Logan for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Well, that took a turn!
Dr. Sarah Haywood is a contract teaching assistant at Queen Anne University, hoping for a permanent position she’s worked hard to earn. However, the path to that promotion is through a powerful and esteemed professor, Alan Hawthorne, who’s also a notorious sexual harasser. Sarah has successfully navigated herself out of his clutches but now that her career is on the line, he’s got her cornered, literally and figuratively. A chance situation puts another powerful man in her debt who offers her the opportunity to give him one name...someone she wishes would just disappear. But Sarah’s uncertain if she’s willing to cross that line.
I’d heard so much praise for the author’s previous book, I readily accepted the offer to review this one, going into it blind. That was a great decision as I hadn’t any preparation for this story and it wreaked an emotional toll. Younger women may not have yet faced men like Hawthorne in their careers but his was a familiar profile for me. I understood Sarah’s sense of desperation, powerlessness and futility with not only Hawthorne but a broken system that allowed him to thrive. I didn’t know if I wanted her to accept the offer or not but just wanted her to get what was due her and him to pay a price. You’ll have to read the story to find out the outcome.
There are quite a few twists and turns and the ending took my breath away. I was trying to finish this in one day but couldn’t last. But, I woke determined to learn what happened. I promise you a range of emotions and a thrilling ride. Loved and hated this book...read it and you’ll understand.

3.5 Stars- 29 Seconds by TM Logan out 9/10/19

After stopping a kidnapping, Sarah is given a burner phone with one number in it. She has 72 hours to call that number and give them one name. A name belonging to a person that will disappear.
-
What I loved: The fast paced story. I read the book in 3 hours. Logan is wonderful at telling a story at a fast paced to keep you hooked. The plot had a great premise and I think if the main character was stronger, the plot would have played out better.
-
What I didn't: The main character was extremely weak. There is no way she would get away with any of this and would have completely been arrested. She was a horrible liar and I found it interesting that she then was able to pull off what she was able to.

After being sexually harassed by her superior, Alan, for two years, Professor Sarah of Queen Anne University in London has had enough. But, when she's confronted with the ability to make him "disappear" for good, will she take it?
"Give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear."
After reading this author's debut, Lies (3.5 stars), a year ago, I was very excited when I received an advance copy of 29 Seconds in the mail. Luckily, this extremely suspenseful psychological thriller was even better than the first, and the short chapters allowed me to devour it quickly. I loved the #MeToo theme and was angered and disgusted by Alan's behavior towards Sarah. There were so many surprising twists and turns, and the ending was absolute perfection making me laugh out loud in glee. Now, I can't wait for next summer's release, The Vacation!
Location: London, England (Queen Anne University)
I received an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

If you could make one person disappear with no consequences, would you? Could you give a name? In 29 Seconds by T.M. Logan main character Sarah finds herself in a situation where she has the opportunity to answer these questions.
As a young professor with a manipulative, sexual harassing boss, Sarah has a hard time moving her career forward. This, in addition to the fact her husband has taken off to find himself, leaves her filled with rage that she unexpectedly channels into stopping a kidnapping. This one simple act of selflessness leads her down a road of abductions, burner phones, and unexpected decisions.
This novel is unpredictable in the best way. It never goes quite the way you expect, and I was so grateful for the thrill.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
