Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 29 Seconds is divided into three main parts. The main character is Sarah whose husband has recently left her to find himself with the help of another woman. She has two young children at home as well. Sarah has been working in academics for two years with a boss that won’t stop propositioning her. Hawthorn is friends with everyone on campus including the HR head and the dean. Sarah feels like there is nothing she can do except just keep her head down and avoid him the best she can! One day she saves a little girl from being kidnapped. A man starts following her around. She finds out that the father of the little girl she saved has an offer for her. One name of anyone she wants to get rid of, no consequences and it is done. Sarah refuses but later on makes a phone call that changes everything, a phone call that lasts 29 seconds.

I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one day on my couch! Many times I wasn’t sure where the story was going but I had to keep going to find out. I loved how everything played out in the story. This book is different from others I have read recently but it created a great story that you will be drawn into!

After helping to stop a young girl from being kidnapped, Sarah is given a twisted offer. Give the man a name, and he will make that person disappear. It's perfect timing really because Sarah's disgusting boss, Alan Lovelock, has once again stopped her promotion. He's so bad that Sarah and her friend have made Rules around his behavior because no female wants to be left alone with him. He uses his position to take advantage of women, manipulating them for sexual favors, or destroying their career and lives in the process. But will Sarah take the man up on his offer, to get rid of Lovelock?

So this story and the premise was really good, but I really hated Sarah. Her husband, a repeat cheater, has left her again, for the second time in under two years and she repeatedly pines for him to come back. I get that at her age, it's hard to start over, to find a new job, but she took this job knowing the rumors about Lovelock. Then knowing what he's like, she stays, keeps hoping it won't happen to her. She's not destitute, so there's no reason to stay in this job, at all. She's not very bright at times because she legit was thinking that this guy making people disappear would mean they were "...sent away, far away, and never came back?" I just can't get on board with how weak of a main character she was for the majority of the book.

The good thing about the book is that it's intense and fast-paced, so you do find yourself anxiously reading to find out what happens. Sarah isn't always weak, and she does find her moments of being the strong character you so hoped she would be all along. It's well-written and I think if Sarah were a stronger, more assertive person who held her cards a bit closer, I would have really loved the book.

Just before reading this book, I had plowed through T.M. Logan's previous book, "Lies." That one I gave 5 stars even though I had some concerns. This book I'm giving 4 stars, even though it was just about as enjoyable - but it was also at least as problematic.

Lies was told from a male character's point of view, and I allowed myself to just go with it when I didn't understand the logic of some of his decisions. But 29 Seconds has a female lead, and I couldn't get past some of her thoughts and actions that didn't ring true to me. My biggest problem was if Sarah wanted to turn in Alan for the harassment, why was she ALWAYS denying that there was any harassment???

The subject matter was also a bit disconcerting. This is a #MeToo Sexual Harassment in the Work Place situation on mega steroids, and that made Sarah's decisions to stay and try to make things work all the harder to believe. The entire situation is way over the top, and if Sarah wants to keep her job (even before the "29 seconds" happens) it is clear she will be risking everything in her life to do so and will never ever ever ever be rewarded or promoted for her efforts. She's not alone, she has a father who would help her, so why not just start over somewhere else safe?

Once the story gets going it is still a thrilling ride, and with all the exemptions I gave "Lies" it wouldn't be right of me to give this less than 4 stars. But it's a thrilling ride with problems. The 29 seconds section doesn't even pan out after it turns out these professional mobsters can't even make a simple rapist disappear. That was a disappointment. And there was another disappointment when Sarah's next plan just fades to black and we're sent to some point in the future. Then we're just told what happened. Why couldn't we have seen it play out?? It was disappointment after disappointment when we can't even see the antagonist's downfall for ourselves.

This is a lot of complaining for a 4 star book. But the truth is that if you can see it as an over-the-top premise then you can probably get a lot of enjoyment out of the book, and I did enjoy racing through it just like I did "Lies". As a quick, thrilling thriller, it earns its 4 stars.

One warning: There are no rape scenes in this book, but if you have any sort of #MeToo triggers, stay away from this one.

Many thanks to NetGalley for giving me ARCs of both of T.M. Logan's books in exchange for honest reviews. I did enjoy them both very much as summer thrillers, and I would look forward to his next one.

I enjoyed most of this book- the first 20 percent dragged but the rest of the book was a real page turner. It had an interesting ending that I didn’t see coming. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

Sarah is confronted with every woman’s worst nightmare: A man who can’t take a hint and won’t accept the word no. It’s her colleague and worse than that it’s her boss. A boss who could possible control her whole academic career. So what does she do? Does she suck it up and do her best to ignore him? Or does she try to find a way out for herself?

I greatly enjoyed this book! Some aspects of it seemed a little over the top, as in this definitely would never happen in really life 😂 and near the end I felt like the character was jumping around a lot so I had a hard time following it. However, it was still a good and quick read. I got through it in about a day and was definitely engaged the entire time! I also didn’t expect the ending of it, which I always appreciate in a thriller. If you can ignore the overtop the parts of the novel, I think you’ll really enjoy it.

I didn’t not finish this book. I tried but it felt like too much of a slow burn for me to get the grasp on the story.

Prepare yourself for a most captivating storyline in 29 SECONDS. Sarah is an nontenured professor, a recently estranged wife, and mother of two young children. In repayment of preventing the kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl, she is given the opportunity to make one person in her life disappear, and she was told to tell no one, and that there would be neither connections nor comebacks. All she would have to do is make one phone call on a burner phone and give the recipient one name. Only three conditions applied. First, she only had seventy-two hours to provide a name. Second, if she said no, the offer was withdrawn forever. Third, once she provided a name, she could not change her mind and retract it.

Ethically, Sarah struggled with her decision. Would she choose her estranged husband who abandoned her and their children for his career and his girlfriend? Or would it be her boss who passed her up for an anticipated promotion and was also making sexual innuendoes and expecting sexual favors before he would recommend her for tenure? Or would she choose no one?

Well done, T. M. Logan, for writing one of the cleverest and intriguing storylines I have read this year; I truly didn’t want to put the book down. I predict this will be a best seller, and I wish to wholeheartedly thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this pre-release in exchange for an honest review.

29 Seconds was an insanely simplistic book about a woman who was being sexually harassed at work and felt helpless in confronting the issue. She happens into an unrelated situation where she kinda, sorta does the right thing and her reward is the proffered option to get rid of someone, anyone, and we're all thinking "yeah, duh --the sleazebag terrorizing your worklife."

"You give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear. For you."

"I don't have a name to give you. There isn't anyone."

"Nonsense. Everyone has someone they would like to punish. To have just a little bit more just in the world."

"Maybe I'm the exception."

He considered her for a long moment. "Are you sure?"

Of course she's sure. The a**hole she works for, Professor Hawthorne, deserves to be taken down. But she's too scared and pathetic to own her own feelings or her own success, so she second guesses everything ten times over.

I could not stand Sarah as a character. We're supposed to like her and root for her in 29 Seconds, but we don't. We can't. She wasn't brave, she wasn't strong, she wasn't a leader. Any thoughts of greatness she held were never turned into action. She stumbles through life, and feels like injustice just keeps finding her.

A woman would not have written this book, and *this* woman wishes she hadn't read it.

29 Seconds is the story of Sarah, a young mother of two who is a professor at an university. Sarah and her husband have temporarily separated (actually, he left, and we never really meet him). Sarah is hardworking and driven, and is hoping to get a permanent contract at the university this year to stabilize things for her family. However, she has several run ins with the department chair, a known philanderer, where he attempts to pressure her into sexual favors to secure her spot at the university. Sarah can’t see a way out of this sticky situation, as previous women have accused Professor Hawthorne of similar behavior, and then had their careers spiral down the drain. However, after Sarah rescues a little girl, the father offers an opportunity to Sarah to make anybody disappear. Sarah must decide if the reward is worth the risk, and where does she go from here?

The strengths, as I see them - T.M. Logan did a wonderful job of writing characters to fulfill their part in this tale. The story was fast paced and relevant.

The timing of 29 Seconds is relevant to today, with connections to the “me too” movement. As a working mom of 2, I identified with Sarah in that regard. 29 Seconds has a very rapid pace, and I anxiously read, wondering what Sarah would do. However, I found myself stopping to reread a couple of times - glad I had this on my kindle for the search feature - Professor Alan Hawthorne is occasionally referred to as Professor Alan Lovelock. At one point, I thought I missed a character. I’m still not sure if his name was Professor Alan Lovelock Hawthorne, Professor Alan Hawthorne, Professor Alan Lovelock, or if Lovelock or another name was actually a nickname. Perhaps, since I do have an advance copy, there was a name change from an earlier version, and in a few instances, the change was missed? Regardless of his name, the Professor is a truly despicable, entitled jerk, and I despised him throughout.

29 Seconds was a engaging thriller with multiple twists. I definitely recommend this book and others by T.M. Logan to readers of this genre!

I tried two different times to get into this book and just couldn't get into this book. I loved the first book by this author and had high hopes for 29 second but it fell short. It started off really slow and just couldn't hold my interest at all.

From the beginning Sarah played the victims and it just went on and on. Yes she was being harassed but she could have done something about it instead of whining about if throughout the entire book. "Well I assume the entire book, I stopped reading after a couple of chapters because I couldn't take it anymore".

It seems like a lot of people enjoyed this book but I wasn't one of them. I would say read it at your own risk you might enjoy it. It just wasn't for me.
I received a free ARC of 29 seconds from T.M. Logan from McMillan in exchange for my honest review.

Fast paced psychological thriller. Read it through in a day. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. A few good twists that keep this one going until the very end.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC

29 Seconds by T.M.Logan
Wooowee! This was a page turner, Sarah is getting sexual harassed at work by her boss when she witnesses an attempted kidnapping and meets a mysterious man who offers her a chance to make one person "disappear", does she dare?! Find out! You will love the turns this story takes.
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Press for this book and letting me leave my opinion.

Sarah has a choice to make. Does she continue to be sexually harassed by her boss Alan, or does she have someone bad make him disappear? This story has potential to be great, but the character of Sarah is really hard to like or even empathize with. She is an unrealistic character and the plot creates unbelievable situations and "twists." Throughout the book, her decisions and actions did not make sense to me. The only character in the novel that was believable was the horrible protagonist Alan. I would have given this book 3 stars, but then I read the ending and it was completely disappointing. I enjoyed this author's debut novel Lies. I hope this book is just a bump in the road and that he gets back on track with the next one. If you are looking for a suspenseful, twist-filled thriller, bypass this read. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Sarah is a young professor struggling to prove herself in a workplace controlled by Alan Hawthorne, a renowned scholar and television host.

She is also a victim of sexual harassment, at his hands.

By chance, she witnesses the attempted kidnapping of a young child, while driving home one night, and as a mother, she feels compelled to intervene.

The girl's grateful father is a man with dangerous connections, and as repayment for her act of bravery, he offers her a deal-

"Give me one name. One person. And, I will make them disappear."
No consequences. No traces. All it takes is a 29-second phone call.

But, can she live with her actions if she makes the call?

Most readers will say, "The book is always better than the movie."

But the entire time, I was reading this I was thinking..."This would be much better if it were a movie I was watching, than it is as a book." I could see women (and hopefully most men!) cringing at the sexual harassment scenes, and cheering when Sarah decides to take her revenge!

The wrap-up of the book, even seems mimics the wrap up of an Ocean's 11 or Ocean's 8, thriller-telling you, instead of showing you how it all plays out.

But for me, though my hand would be buried in a tub of popcorn, enjoying the movie...it just lacked the necessary development of plot and characters, to work as well, as a book.

So, 3 tubs of popcorn from me...and a thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press. and T.M. Logan for the digital ARC I received in exchange for a candid review. This novel will be released in the U.S. on Sept. 10th, 2019.

This is a twisty little mystery and suspense novel.

The book centers on college professor Sarah who is currently being sexually harassed by her boss and serial predator famous professor and television star Alan. After being turned down for a promotion Sarah rightly deserved,

Soon after the upsetting news of being passed over, Sarah saves a young girl and in return, has the opportunity to make a dangerous choice: make Alan disappear forever or let him live.

The book had several unexpected twists and turns and was a good suspenseful novel. This is my second by T.M. Logan, and I think I enjoyed this one more.

I was easily hooked and read the book in less than a day. The writing was entertaining, and I found the plot new and fresh.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and www.NetGalley.com for my review copy.

29 Seconds...that is one phone call that can alter someone’s life forever. And it did, Sarah’s. When Sarah is driving to pick up her children from school one day, she inadvertently rescues a young girl from what looked like an attempted abduction. Her only concern was for the girl’s safety. Sarah had no idea who the girl was, and she certainly didn’t expect to be contacted by a very dangerous and powerful man. In order to return the favor. She is made an offer which is difficult to refuse. Her life is miserable thanks to a horrible boss, and this may be a way to outsmart him. But Sarah soon finds out things aren’t always as simple as they seem.

This is a fast paced psychological thriller that will keep hooked from the first page to the last. The characters are well developed, but not all are well liked...which was fine by me. The plot of the book is dark, it is about a sexual predator as a very powerful University professor, who uses his power to intimidate his employees by holding their opportunity to earn promotions or be fired. The ending is full of twists and unforeseen turns that will keep your heart pounding until the very end.

If you liked T.M. Logan’s book Lies, you will love 29 Seconds!

I would like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very timely novel about sexual assault and an unrelenting predator who uses his power to control employees at a prestigious university. The storyline, while a bit unrealistic, is identifiable, and the conclusion is satisfying.

WOW. What an excellent read. Usually I can find SOMETHING to gripe about, but I have nothing. This is a strong contender for the best book I've read this year. Well done.

Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the advanced reading copy. It's much appreciated.

Loved this thriller by TM Logan. We’ve all had these fantasies about getting rid of someone from our lives. The main character is afforded this opportunity. The author provides plenty of twists and turns that result in a satisfying conclusion. Will recommend this to those who love Harlan Coben. Great book!
