This one has a unique premise. If you could eliminate one person from your life, without consequences, would you do it? All it takes is 29 seconds. Therein lies the dilemma Sarah, a teacher with young children, is faced with in the latest release from T.M. Logan.
The characters and pace quickly engage the reader and take them on a roller coaster ride right. Professor Hawthorne is truly a character that's easy to despise, right along with Sarah. This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but future books will be on my to-read list, as I enjoy quick, thrilling, edge-of-your-seat reads such as this one.

What would you do if you had the chance to make anyone disappear? No questions asked. If your Sarah, the main character in 29 seconds, you would give the name of your boss who is a bully and sex predator. But after giving that name in a phone call could you live with your decision? Could you live life normally as if nothing ever happened?
29 Seconds is the second novel by T.M. Logan that I've had the chance to read. While I enjoyed it just as much as his debut novel, Lies, the book is quite different. In Lies, the main event of the story takes place at the beginning of the book and there is a cat and mouse chase throughout the rest of the story leaving the readers on the edge of their seats. In 29 Seconds there's quite the buildup to the main event. The phone call that the story receives its title from doesn't take place until approximately halfway through the book. But the first half of that book isn't just wasted space or words thrown on a page. Uh-huh. The first half of this book builds up to the main event, that 29-second phone call, that may or may not change Sarah's life. For me, the author did a fantastic job of building up to the phone call. We get to know Sarah as a person and what her life is like with her husband who has left her for someone else. While we hear much about him we never really get to know him as a person, which is fine. Readers also get to know Sarah's father and the relationship between him and Sarah. And there's a great deal of time spent getting to know and thus despising the one and only Professor Alan Hawthorne. I'm not quite sure I've ever hated a character as much as I did this guy. He's a bully who uses sexual harassment to get what he wants. He's narcissistic and creepy and just plain nasty. T.M. Logan did a great job of creating the perfect character for readers to love to hate. I wanted every single bad thing that could have happened to this character to happen to him. I despised him and wanted to make that phone call myself.
One character in the book has a pretty important role though we don't see him much. That's James Grosvenor, the father of the child Sarah rescues. I enjoyed the short time spent with this character. He exuded wealth and power. It was effortless to picture this guy sitting in an office talking to Sarah and offering up his services to her. There was just something about this character that was so interesting and I was drawn to him. I would have actually liked for him to have had a bigger role in the story so I could read more about him.
While this book wasn't as fast-paced as Lies I enjoyed it just as much. I liked the way the story played out letting readers get to know the characters and build attachments to them. T.M. Logan does a phenomenal job of telling stories that capture the reader's attention and doesn't let go until the end. T.M. Logan is on my must-read author list and I can't wait to read more by this talented author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and wasn't required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

“Sometimes you just have to stand and fight.”
In T.M. Logan’s 29 Seconds, Sarah is a rising star in her professional academic world, but there is one man than stands between her and success. Unwilling to compromise her morals, she has to come up with a plan to deal with her creepy chauvinistic boss.
This story is about the a strong woman, with a strong family and friend that helped over came the stereotypical chauvinist boss brilliantly.
Solid 4 stars

Everyone has a name to give, don't they?
Sarah is successful woman with a doctorate of the arts, passionate, intelligent, driven....and being completely stymied by her boss. Alan Hawthorne is a world renowned academic, with several successful books, TV specials, a beautiful wife, a lovely home, and a less than secret dark side. Sarah is given an unthinkable choice to make after saving the life of the child of wealthy business man with dark connections. She knows making this choice is unconscionable.....but could it solve all her problems and finally allow her the recognition and success she deserves? Or will it lead her down a path to an even worse fate?
29 Seconds is a masterful tale set in the post MeToo world. Sarah's boss is lauded as being one of the most important and well known academics in the world, but his path is littered with women he has assaulted, used, and destroyed if they spoke out about it. Sarah finds herself in his sights, with her career at stake. She has no one to turn to, no where to go. She can't play his games, but if she doesn't, she risks the stability of her family and will never be able to work in academia again. The characters are well written and believable and you find your own anger and frustration mounting with each new twist and turn and each new choice Sarah must make. The book slow burns through the first third, building motivation and getting you truly invested. By the time Sarah makes her choice, you find yourself holding your breath, praying that she can finally get what she deserves. From there the book races through twists like a roller coaster, before racing to a satisfying and delicious conclusion.
I couldn't recommend this book enough. While women will find this story relatable and satisfying, anyone that has been stuck in the mire of office politics can identify with the frustration and enjoy the conclusion.

I devoured this book in 29 seconds - or so it felt! True to T.M. Logan's writing style, I was whisked into a drama-filled with "what WOULD I do" thoughts and felt the anxiety right along with Sarah, who after an act of bravery, is given the ultimate rewarding gift, but with a moral cost.
I love Logan's tone in this book and the feeling of never knowing what is going to happen on the next page. I also love the book cover! Well done.

Fabulous fabulous fabulous!!!!!!
This book just blew me away. The plot was amazing with a shocking ending you won't see coming, the writing and characters very well developed, and I just can't say enough good things about this novel so let me just leave you with one thought lRead it!!! Ten stars for sure!

Oh man this was a book that was hard to put down once I started. I found myself reading late into the night knowing I needed to get up the next morning early. Sarah is a single mother who loves her job but the job environment is not the best. Her boss is a p.o.s. who doesn't like to take no for answer. Sarah tries her best to follow the rules that her and her friends have set in place whenever they are alone with him which they always try not to be. One decision that Sarah makes to save a young girl will change her life forever. We see how Sarah goes about making this decision and I really liked how she didn't just jump at the chance she truly put some thought in it and was thinking of what would happen if she would be found out. Another part I liked of Sarah is how she made a decision she kept worrying and overthinking I believe that is something that a lot of us would have done in this situation. The author did a great job with having that detail within the character.
Her boss has gotten away with so much sexual harassment and no one has been able to touch him to the point that even saying anything remotely bad can end your job within a heart beat and you won't get another job. It scares the women that work around him but what can you do? I really liked how Sarah played dirty and did what she had to do to make him pay. It all took a 29 second phone call.
With the title and the story line I really thought about what I would do with a phone call like that and would I be able to make a choice. I liked how it got me thinking.

Even though parts of this story may seem a tad fantastical overall the main story is scary as all heck and you can see it happening all too easily. The story is riveting and I couldn't put it down.

A chilling tense multi layered thriller Sarah a professor is given a chance to get revenge on a professor who has been harassing her in the time of the #meto era this book resonates .This book is so dark full of so many twists and turns will leave you guessing till the last page.Highly recommend,#netgalley#st.Martins

29 seconds to rid your life of someone who keeps stomping you down and not letting you rise to your full potential, do you make the call?
This story makes you think. I really enjoyed it as I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I feel like if I tell you able it and how I was feeling, I’d give away some critical information and spoil the story. I don’t want to do that, so I will say to grab this story and hang in tight. The emotional rollercoaster could make you queasy.

For someone who's studied Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, Sarah should know better than to make a deal with the devil. Yet, that's exactly what she does when she gets the opportunity to make someone disappear. To be fair, the guy she chooses deserves such fate. A chauvinist pig who takes advantage of his bulletproof position in academia to berate and abuse women, the world would be a better place without Alan Hawthorne. The plot is very engrossing and I kept reading because I needed to know what was going to happen next. There are two things that I didn't like as much. One is a minor gripe: the amount of time devoted to Sarah's conversations with her kids. I guess people who like kids a lot will find them endearing but I thought they were distracting. The bigger issue is that pretty much every single male character except for one is a raging bastard, which makes them one-dimensional and close to caricature. These are minor issues in an otherwise tight read.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/St. Martin's Press!

As much as I wanted to get into this book, I just couldn't. The whole encounter that led to the 29 second phone call that changed Sarah's life was just too far fetched for me. I was expected a physiological thriller but was left disappointed.

This book kept me glued to my Kindle for the last half! It was slow at first, but quickly picked up pace and kept me guessing through to the end. Great read for someone looking for a quick thriller!

Sarah is a professor being sexually harassed by her much-loved boss. To the outside world, he’s charming, educated, respectable. To his female colleagues, he’s sleezy, abusive and inappropriate. But his weekly golf outings with the head of HR, the grant money he pulls for the university and his high profile status from his BBC television show make him nearly untouchable. When Sarah is presented with a deal with the devil, an offer of a lifetime, to disappear one person in her life, will a 29 second phone call end in regrets?
“There are only ever really three options in life, Sarah. You can cut and run, make a fresh start somewhere else. You can trust the process, the powers that be. Or you can stand and fight.” I will always be a stand and fight kind of girl and I’ve been in this rut of reading books where the characters tend toward the former two choices. It’s always a breath of fresh air to read an author who believes women can and should stand and fight when others are trying to victimize them. Justice is rarely pretty, achieved neatly without any dirt getting on those seeking to mete it out, and I love how this book understood and captured that.
It’s hard not to relate to Sarah’s experiences as a woman in the workplace. Most of us have experienced some degree of sexism from our older male peers. I found the conclusion incredibly satisfying, but fair warning, this book might be too triggering for those who have experienced the most extreme version of sexual harassment. This was a fast paced, evocative unputdownable read for me and to anyone claiming that the #MeToo movement fixed all issues like this and rendered situations like this unrealistic, I assure you that sexual harassers are still being protected in every industry.
My one criticism is I wish I had seen more of the end play out. 4.5 stars

I have read a number of really great books so far this year and this book ranks right up there with the very best of them. It was unputdownable! Sarah is a PhD working in college education and is learning that she will not be advanced up the ladder unless she sleeps with her sleazy boss, Alan Hawthorne. After some unforeseen circumstances occur, Sarah is offered a chance to make someone disappear with no questions asked. This book takes so many twist and turns with a big surprise ending. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this super fantastic book in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a fantastic thriller.

Well written and a cut above most thrillers. The ending was very well plotted and the characters were believable. My only complaint is an expression that the author used, "she fell pregnant ". Sorry, there is no such thing, you fall downstairs, but not pregnant.

Sarah is a professor teaching about Christopher Marlowe. Can she make a deal with the devil similar to one Marlowe writes about in Dr. Faustus? I was looking for more tie in to the story of Faustus, but the premise is the same. When faced with an a horror so burdensome and evil, can you commit to a horror in return?
Sarah's boss, Dr. Alan Hawthorne has the power to make or break her career. Despite her stellar academic rating and performance, Hawthorne wants favors in return for a possible promotion. As the darling of the University for his funding efforts, no one believes the various women who have brought their complaints about him to HR, and Sarah is doomed before she even begins her complaint. She's faced with going along with Hawthorne's disgusting requests, starting her life and career over, or staying and fighting.
Though somewhat contrived, I liked the twist at the end and would have liked to have heard a bit more about how Sarah got there. If you like this book, you'll love T.M. Logan's previous book Lies!

While you can anticipate to some degree what will happen in the end of 29 Seconds, the true fun of this book is how it all plays out. Sarah is being sexually harassed by her boss and seemingly has no place to turn - HR is on his side, the dean is on his side, and she's in such a specific career track that her options are limited for employment elsewhere. In the middle of this, a situation comes up that puts a powerful man in debt to her. He offers to make a single person in her life disappear, and of course the boss is the prime candidate. But is it worth taking this man up on his offer? This could be a relatively simple story that's completely relevant in the #MeToo era, but Logan ups the ante with twists and turns you're not expecting - making you wonder just how the resident antagonist will get what's coming to him. I really enjoyed this, although in the ARC I read it did get confusing, because Sarah's boss was referred to as both Dr. Hawthorne and Dr. Lovelock.

I absolutely loved "29 Seconds". It is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I was hooked immediately and did not want to put it down. There was a true twist in the middle of the book and the ending did not disappoint.. @9 Seconds was a great read and I highly recommend it.

I received a copy of this book from netgalley in return for my honest review. This book was so good. It kept my attention and really kept me guessing!!!! I never knew what was going to happen next!!!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery!!
