29 Seconds by T.M. Logan sounded like a book I would devour from the moment I read the blurb. I was expecting a fast paced, suspenseful, addicting thriller.

Unfortunately, this one fell a bit flat for me. I felt like there were more slow moments in the story than not. There were several moments that felt fast paced and suspenseful, but they were only short moments sprinkled throughout the book. Sarah's inner monologues were a huge part of what slowed this book down and made me lose interest a few times. I frequently felt like her thoughts were rambling more than necessary.

29 Seconds was overall a thriller with an interesting concept that just fell a bit short of the mark for me.

I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

29 SECONDS is the stunning new thriller (Release date Sept. 10) by TM Logan, author of the superb 2017 thriller LIES. The very timely subject matter reflects the #MeToo Movement, and recent disclosures of workplace harassment in network media, films, and high-society philanthropy. Sarah is a gifted scholar specializing in sixteenth-century playwright Christopher Marlowe, author of Doctor Faustus, a play which comes to symbolize her life.

29 SECONDS demonstrates a victimized academic in a situation both Orwellian and Machiavellian, as she determines to make a stand. Must she deal with the devil, as playwright Marlowe's Doctor Faustus did, in order to free herself from another devil?

Thank you to publisher and NetGalley for a copy of an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It took a while for me to get into this book. Once I did, it went pretty quickly. I don't like to leave negative reviews, so I won't...I'll just say this book didn't do much for me.

It was suspenseful in parts, but to me, just ok overall...

Excellent suspense novel with twists and turns galore. I raced through this book and will be recommending it to all I know. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley, the publisher and the author and this is my honest opinion.

Sarah is a young professor working hard to become permanent. Unfortunately, her boss is Alan Hawthorne (or Lovelock?) and he's made it plain there is only one way for her to achieve that goal. The thing is, she doesn't try to get a movement going against him.

He's brilliant, manipulative, charming, successful, and powerful. Sarah's been successful at rebuking his advances but he's getting more worse. When a chance presents itself to DO something--ANYTHING (see synopsis), she saves a young girl from an apparent kidnapping. The girl's father is even more powerful than Hawthorne--and very grateful. "You give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear. For you." The reader is positive she'd take the opportunity but suddenly she's impotent again.

She has 72 hours to give them a name and within that time things get worse. Now she's really, thoroughly, pissed, and makes the call. Then wakes the next morning wondering "what have I done?" It was explained--there is no going back. But now it's killing her. In the meantime, her two young'un's are still fighting and squabbling, her father is still patiently there for her and hubby isn't in the picture as he'd had to go "find himself" (with someone else). She's totally not playing this with a full deck. You'd have to wonder how she's gotten this far.

Sarah's isn't the brightest and comes too close to telling. Telling??!! (Seriously?) But then the super baddies mess up and Hawthorne is rescued. (Uh huh, it's a CF.) And now on top of everything else, he can blackmail her because of course, he knows. HE's not stupid.

Sarah develops a plan to take care of him once and for all and it's also looking like a groaner. There is a twist at the end--a pretty good one--and I'll assume she didn't work that one out. Dialogue works well, but the reader is still shaking her/his head. Harassment is not new. Neat twist at the end, but in the meantime you have had to choke back disbelief.

I received this digital download from the publisher and NetGalley and always appreciate the opportunity to read and review a topical contemporary fiction. 3.5/5

I devoured this book - it kept me on the edge of my chair. I finished it in a day, forcing myself to stay awake so I could finish it. I was intrigued by the thought of what I would do in this situation. Probably nothing because I would have quit the university job rather than work for a disgusting perv. However, if Sarah had taken that route, there wouldn't really be a book. It kept me guessing. I gasped aloud a few times. It was definitely a fun read!

I did think it wrapped a little too neatly -- it was a bit farfetched. But, I'm not reading these books as a training guide, so a little extra imagination isn't a bad thing.

Big thanks to NetGalley for the chance to preview!

Sarah has the opportunity to make someone disappear and no one would ever know. Her boss is a creep with a lot of power but Sarah saves a girls life and the father of the girl gives Sarah an offer that could change hers and possibly someone else’s lives forever. Within seconds of reading 29 Seconds I was hooked! This book is full of twists and action. I couldn’t put it down. The short chapters make for a fast paced book. This was my first book by T.M Logan and it won’t be my last!

In T.M. Logan's 29 Seconds, a college professor finds herself being sexually harassed and having her career threatened by her boss. Others have tried over the years to report him only to see their own careers ruined. What can Professor Sarah Hayward do to protect herself and her career from the "bullet-proof" head of Department, Alan Hawthorne?

29 Seconds is a harrowing tale of being stuck between a rock and a hard place and making the right choices - if you can. It is a well written, suspenseful take on an all too common workplace situation. The conclusion is unexpected. The characters are so well developed that they evoke different emotions from the reader.

I highly recommend this book. Thank you to #Netgalley and StMartinsPress for approving my request. The opinions expressed in this review is solely my own.

This second book by T.M. Logan is a very exciting, page-turning thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. It is clever and a bit unpredictable, like Sarah, the main character. The book tackles the tough subject of sexual harassment with an unconventional outcome that feels very satisfying.

I really enjoyed this book. What would you do if you are given a chance at the ultimate revenge and what if that actually happened? This book explores that idea and how it might impact the lives of those around them.

I absolutely loved the ending. I can't say too much about it because it is best to go into it blind and just enjoy the ride.

I highly recommend this book.

T.M.Logan has done it again with this outstanding novel. Such a thrilling smoothly written fast paced read that had me not wanting to put it down because I had to know what happened! I love Logans writing style and the seamless ways he develops his characters weather it be the newly single hard working mom or the jerk boss. This is definitely a book I'd recommend you read.

Sarah has found herself in a tough situation, her husband went away with his mistress and she's having a hard time adjusting to single motherhood. Thankfully Sarah has her father she can rely on to help out with her children. Her job has been taxing and she's hoping for a promotion to help secure her future with her children. Her boss is a bit of a chauvinistic pig. One day as she's running late she takes a detour home in hopes that it will be faster. During this detour she witnessed an incident that will inevitably change her life. It is the repercussions of this incident that shape the rest of the story. It all changes with one phone call that last 29 seconds. Sarah chose this way to benefit her life, but will this decision be for the better or for the worse!

Title: 29 Seconds
Author: TM Logan
Genre: Thriller
Rating: 4 out of 5

Sarah is a mother trying to adapt to being a single parent. She’s also a young professor fighting to earn a permanent place at the university she works at. A university controlled by Alan Hawthorne—charming, famous, and powerful, and therefore untouchable. Sarah has heard the rumors about his treatment of women behind closed doors, but now she’s become his next target.

Hawthorne pulls in million-dollar grants for the university, so no one will listen to a word Sarah says. She has nowhere to turn and no way to keep away from Hawthorne. Until one night she rescues a young girl from would-be kidnappers and the girl’s father turns out to be a businessman with powerful connections. He offers Sarah a burner phone and a choice.

“Give me one name. One person. And I will make them disappear.”

This book centers around moral grey areas, and that’s a hard subject for me, as I’m a black-and-white kind of person. It’s either wrong or right, there are no grey areas to me. But Sarah is stuck between a rock and a hard place and she makes the best choice she can. What comes next is more than she ever expected.

TM Logan is an award-winning, bestselling author. 29 Seconds is his newest novel.

Rating: 4 double twisting stars

T.M. Logan has written a suspense/thriller that had me turning the pages faster and faster to find out Sarah’s story would all end. Sarah is a PhD who is teaching at a major English university on an annually renewing contract. She desperately wants to gain tenure in order to provide stability for her two young children, and to have protection from her boss’ sexual harassment.

The spider web woven by her boss, Alan Hawthorne is pulling her in tighter and tighter. She is terrified that she will soon have to succumb to his advances to get tenure, or just to keep her job. Then a proposal from an unexpected source gives her a new option for escaping from the charismatic Hawthorne’s grasp. Will she take it?

The rest of the story flows from there. I am not going to talk about the plot any further in order to avoid providing story spoilers. I loved the fast pace, and the short chapters in the book. The short chapters made it easy to convince myself that I could stay up and read, ‘Just one more chapter’ until I realized that it was way past my normal bedtime. There are all sorts of unexpected plot twists. They made this an entertaining read. As an extra bonus, I did not figure out the ending ahead of time. Well done Mr. Logan!

‘Thank-You’ to NetGalley; the publisher, St Martin’s Press; and the author, T.M. Logan for providing a free e-ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Can someone disappear forever-someone you would be very glad to get rid of? Sarah, whose job security relies largely on the charming and manipulative Alan Hawthorne—and who is being hit on by Alan (if she wants to get ahead),faces that decision after she is granted this wish by the father of a child whose kidnapping she muddled. Sarah faces the decision of her life. As the reader, you become at one with Sarah and her decision. Follow along with the myriad of twists and turns the story takes, changing your mind continually (like Sarah).

This book definitely has all the suspense and excitement of a thriller. At the same time, it confronts, head-on, a pivotal question/situation we encounter personally or all around us in others every day. I found myself mesmerized by the story line and plot, hurrying to find out what was going to happen next. The first part of the book moves along well, laying the groundwork for the pivotal ending. The second part of the book speeds things up considerably, increasing the tension and interest. Sarah is a realistic character. Yes, there were times I was not happy with her thoughts and decisions, but, all in all, she came across well throughout the book. Obviously, Alan Hawthorne is not exactly a likable character. Not sure about the man who promises to pull this strange thing off. He comes across as sinister and mysterious, but powerful and grateful for Sarah saving his child. The book is well done and will keep the reader in its focus easily. The plot/story line will do that, if nothing else will. This is a good, action-filled, suspenseful thriller that will entertain just about anyone who picks it up. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

I loved this book! I have read TM Logan before but this one was absolutely terrific. The story is about a woman who has a difficult ( to put it lightly) boss who makes her life hell. She has a chance to be rid of him without being found out. I for one, would take that in a New York second. There are things you won’t see coming. All making for a great book! Thanks to NetGalley and TM Logan for allowing me the delight of reading and reviewing 29 Seconds!

29 Seconds brought out all the crazy in me and the wish for revenge was strong! This is a wonderfully exciting ride through a short period of time in Sarah's life. Sarah's boss is one of the lowest of the low, a sexual predator who happily uses his position of authority to use and abuse women sexually.

Haven't we all dreamed of revenge or the perfect way out of an incredibly difficult situation? I know I have and when Sarah is offered the chance to "disappear" anyone - 1 name - that is when the crazy starts. There are cat and mouse games played, lots of drama and definitely some tighten your seat belt moments.

Sit down, cozy up and have snacks and drinks nearby because you will NOT want to stop reading this until the end. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen and if Sarah would ever have a decent chance at furthering her career.

If you haven't read T. M. Logan, do so now! 29 Seconds is one of the best books I've read this year.

I was thrilled to receive an ARC at my request and thanks go to the author, publisher and Netgalley. All thoughts in this review are my own and happily given.

Many thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press and TM Logan for the opportunity to read and review his second novel. I really enjoyed Lies and this one was a gripping read as well! 4.5 stars!

Imagine if you just had to say a name of a person to make them disappear out of your life - would you have a name? What happens if you make that deal with the devil? Sarah has to make this decision. Coming home from work one night, she managed to stop the kidnapping of a young girl. The girl's father is a powerful man and he feels that he is now in Sarah's debt. The only way he can repay that debt is to offer her a deal - she has 72 hours to make a phone call with a name of a person she wants to disappear. Once that decision is made, she can't take it back and the opportunity will never present itself again. Do you make the deal? What if your boss at work is untouchable and making your life miserable with his sexual harassment?

A great thriller - I couldn't put it down. You really feel for Sarah's no win situation - but can she live with the consequences?

This book was nothing I expected. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but not an awful amount of time. Once I got in it wasn’t hard to stay interested because I was always wondering what would come next. I absolutely recommend this book if you want something to keep you on your toes, with lots of twists and turns.

“There are only ever really three options in life, Sarah. You can cut and run, make a fresh start somewhere else. You can trust the process, the powers that be. Or you can stand and fight.”

I LOVE that this book exists. Can I just say that? I love that we are in a time when novels centering around women taking back ground from men who have bullied them into getting what they want are now commonplace T.M. Logan writes a thrilling novel on one woman's struggle with her elitist, chauvinistic boss, who sexually harasses her at every turn while everyone else turns their heads. This is the story of a man of power exerting his will over a woman he considers inferior to himself—as one would imagine he feels about all women—and the story of how this woman handles her situation.

While Dr. Sarah Haywood is given certain means to ending the struggle with her boss, she alone is responsible for her decisions, while she leans on the support of those she can trust and takes a chance on a mysterious man who owes her a debt.

I particularly love that this book isn't really a revenge story. Sarah battles back and forth inside herself as to what the right thing to do is. When backed into a corner and facing a threat to her family, is there anything she wouldn't do? No. But she doesn't make her decisions conscienceless. She's a real woman with a—let's be honest—relatable problem, and the decisions she's faced with aren't to be taken lately, and the author pens this perfectly.

I received this ARC—thank you to NetGalley and to St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this novel for my honest review—and while it was clear that this is indeed a working copy (a few of the names have been changed, a few names left unedited), I have full confidence that this novel in its finished form will make proud the shelves of St. Martin's Press, not to mention my own.

This book frustrated me in the best of ways.
It was super fast paced and very well written- I breezed through it all.
I loved the character development of Sarah throughout the book, she really came through at the end and was this total badass heroine. Never saw that coming from the beginning. One of the twists I hadn’t seen coming was Marie’s part in everything, being essentially a narc for Alan.
When I first read the synopsis for this, I just knew it wouldn’t be that simple. A scum bag like Alan couldn’t just be easily erased from the world, without anybody knowing. Not as easily as Grosvenor made it seem, so I wasn’t totally shocked when Alan’s kidnapping didn’t quite go as planned.
I was, however, shocked at the ending of it all. The writing made it seem like they had arrested Sarah, but really they had arrested Alan for child pornography that one of Grosvenor’s minions had installed on his laptop while Alan was zonked out thanks to the drug cocktail Sarah had put in his whiskey. That part was twisty, and TM Logan definitely had his reader scared for what was going to happen next for Sarah once Alan had her cornered in the bathroom, essentially naked. A brilliant ending for a brilliantly written book.
However, I was waiting at some point during the book for a big Nick return. Sarah kept referencing him, she kept talking about how she missed him but also hated him, I thought for sure Nick would tie into something related to Alan at some point in the book- but it never happened. Nick never made a big return, which was honestly kind of a let down considering how often he was discussed. At one point I began wondering why Nick was even mentioned at all in the book, that storyline didn’t seem to be going anywhere at all and it didn’t really fit.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it to anyone! Thanks so much netgalley and st martin’s press for the advanced reader’s edition of this book in exchange for my honest review!
