Rose is travelling from the States to the Highlands to be her best friend Kathryns Maid of Honour.

After a whirlwind romance American Kathryn is getting married to Sean in Nairn in Scotland and her best friend in forever Rose is going to be her Maid of Honour.

When Rose arrives in Scotland she is looking forward to experiencing everything Scotland has to offer. Things don’t start according to plan when she accidentally spills a tray of party cheeseburgers down the front of the Lachlan the best man, so they are hardly off to a cracking start.

This was a fantastic story, and as I come from the North East of Scotland I loved the links to Nairn and really enjoyed getting to know all the characters, the story is well written and you really are willing them on to find their HEA.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Another romance? You don’t have to ask me twice 😍😂 I didn’t think I was going to like this as much as I did! So I’m quite mad I didn’t read this sooner than I hoped for. I was pleasantly shocked and wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. Rose travels to Scotland to help marry off her best friend, Katie. While she’s there, Rose wants to check some items off of her checklist… like a scot.

There was travel - love - Scotsmen - kilts - Braveheart- fights - and did I mention KILTS?!

What Happens in the Highlands by Kelsey McNight is a short romance book. American Rose goes to Scotland for her best friend’s wedding. The hot Scottish best man, Lachlan seems more than willing to help Rose’s trip being amazing.

This was a fun, simple, uncomplicated read. No surprises, a little banter and that’s it. Overall if you need something to take your mind off the world this book will do it. Three stars for being enjoyable but unremarkable.

Thank you to NetGalley, Tule Publishing, and Kelsey McNight for the free book. This was an honest review.

Rose was going to miss her best friend. They had been together since elementary school but now everything was changing. Her bestie was getting married and living in Scotland. She never imagined meeting Lachlan and the chemistry they felt together would definitely burn bright through the Highlands. Will she find the one person who would change everything or will she go back to New Jersey and stay in a job that was no longer exciting. Great story!

Loved the story of Lachlen and Rose, the best man and bridesmaid in a wedding. A simple story set in a Scottish background.

Fun and harmless easy reading book, with warm characters and a happy ending - what more could you want for an afternoon curled up on a sofa?!

I thoroughly enjoyed this romp through the Highlands, which had me absorbed. A great summer read, to immerse yourself in while soaking up the holiday sun. I loved the historical element to the story, along with a will they, won't they scenario.

I was so excited about this book settled in the highlands, because Scots!!! Seriously, I wanted a swoon-worthy romance, to feel the chemistry between the characters but it wasn’t the case.

The author almost had me at the tattooed highlander… damn my weakness but still. It felt off to me, from the main characters to the whole story. It lacked chemistry and charm.
I didn’t want something perfect but something more well rounded and less superficial, with more background.

It could be sweet at times and I kinda liked it but it wasn’t enough to get caught into the story or to really enjoyed it.

I loved everything about this story. What a great beginning to a new series.
If you love romantic relationships and Scotland, kilts and everything in between you will fall in love with this new series.

I could not get past the first couple chapters of this. I’m sure it turned out fine, but I have too many books in my TBR pile to find out,

A wedding in Scotland for her Best Friend, a fling while there that is totally out of character for Rose. Just what is ordered to shake up the heroine’s world. A long distance relationship, or will she move to Scotland? A relatable heroine that makes the reader feel as though they could be in her shoes. What will the two lovers do? I loved this book!

While I didn’t absolutely love this book, What Happens in the Highlands is the reason why I keep plowing through books even when they aren’t pulling me in. After a bumpy start, I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this book, but I ended up liking it!

Rose traveled to Scotland for her best friend’s wedding. While there, she has a fling with best man Lachlan. But before she knows it, feelings develop. Of course, there’s the requisite drama (in the form of another woman), and ensuing misunderstanding (followed by non-communication). Then there’s the issue of them having lives that take place with an ocean between them…

For as many “issues” as I had with this story, there were plenty of things to balance them out.

Some books have effortless humor. Other times it seems forced and contrived. And things did not start out well here. Spilling trays of food, clumsy cheek kisses. It was supposed to be comical, but felt forced and contrived. But then about halfway through, the humor moved from slapstick physical comedy to witty banter between the hero and heroine. And just like that the story was saved. Hooray!

I could see the drama in this story coming from a mile away. And the way the heroine dealt with it went like a high school angst-fest. Especially when you consider this story takes place over a period of about a week. But...it didn’t drag on and on. The hero at least acted like an adult and forced the heroine to communicate. And what do you know...misunderstanding cleared up. Hooray!

It always frustrates me when a couple falls in love but then go their separate ways because they don’t live in the same city/state/country. Okay, so different continent is a little more complicated. But hello, people are allowed to move! While the grand gesture was also seen from a mile away, once again I liked how things were resolved, with the hero behaving like a hero. Hooray!

By the last page, this ended up being a decent book for me. It was a quick read - which I am in desperate need of these days, and had a fun, lighthearted vibe to it. This was my first Kelsey McKnight book, and I like to give new-to-me authors more than one read. I’m not sure if the next book in the What Happens series necessarily interests me, but I’m definitely interested in reading more by Ms. McKnight.

This is the first time I've read anything from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a sucker for the Scots, so, after reading books from the Sometime in Love series by Melonie Johnshon I was craving more men with accents. Then I remembered I had this on my kindle so I dove in.

"Love is somethin' that brings two people together, making one life out o'two. It combines, but also separates in a beautiful way. There's a before and after from that moment on, a distinct part in two lives that forever embodies what makes their past, present, and future what it was always meant to be."

Rose comes to Scotland for her best friend's wedding and there she meets Lachlan Calder-Mackinnon. The first meeting wasn't a smashing success but the more she gets to know Lachlan the more Rose loosens up. Its a whirlwind romance with an amazing backdrop of Scotland and I'm hooked enough to continue with this series.

When reading this story I felt like I was missing a back story with her best friend Katie and Sean

As per usual I do hate story lines with assuming and not listening to truths, but otherwise it was good.

Match made in heaven or maid of dishonor?
Tight-laced Rose Hensel arrives in Scotland for her best friend’s wedding with a plan—to be the greatest maid of honor ever, let loose for the first time in years, and find out what Scottish guys really wear under their kilts. After meeting the best man, she thinks she found the man who checks all the boxes for a no-strings-attached romp among the heather.
This was a pretty straight-forward romcom story. It was a light and quick read that helped pass the time. Both main characters are decent enough. If you are looking for something quick to pass the time between other books, then you’ll enjoy this book.

This was a good book to read. I enjoyed the description of the places in Scotland, especially Nairn and the harbour. The characters were interesting without being stereotypes. I was pleased it had a happy ending . Recommend book.

Loved the hero and the setting but had a difficult time relating to the heroine. Overall, a fun read.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Rose isn't the most lovable character. Took me till the end to care a out her. Lachlan is a braw Scot. Their story is sweet but sort of dull.
