What to say about this book .... it was awful!  There is no worthwhile storyline to speak of.  Rose travels to Scotland for the wedding of her best friend, who just happened to meet a rich Scottish man and fall instantly in love.  Rose arrives and, of course, there is a rich, handsome, single best man at her disposal.  The characters could not have been more shallow.  It uses, reuses and overuses all of the usual suspects:  Scottish accents, castles, what do Scottish men wear under their kilts, sex, sex and more sex, poor American girl meets rich foreign boy, love at first sight, men taking their shirts off for no apparent reason....  And the vocabulary!  My gosh, are there women out there who talk like this?  I only finished the book so that I could give an honest review for NetGalley.  If I could give it less than 1 star, I certainly would.

While we've got a hot Scot featured here in a fun romp with an HEA, I'm giving this an average score because it's not really anything new or fabulous, and there are many, many Scottish men written about out there. I'd say, pick this up if you're obsessed with the Scots or lacking in other HEA material at the moment. Otherwise, you could probably pass on this one.

A lovely story that takes place in a picturesque village in the Scottish Highlands that has it all. A couple of Scottish hunks that wear kilts like they were born into them. Castles and ruins that reek of history and the people who lived and loved in them. A wedding with all the trimming, and two people so wrapped up in the other that the tension and attraction leaps off the pages. A love story rivaled only by the magnificent back drop of the Scottish Highlands and one that deserves every star I can give it. A delightful to read. One that I found myself unable to put down!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I really loved the book. There was a lot of love and romance as well as some angst, intrigue and funny lines. I liked learning about Scotland and enjoyed the descriptions of the ruins, the castles and the little villages. It is now on my bucket list to visit. I found the scene when Rose dumps the sliders and water on Lachlan at the welcome party to be very funny. I liked their chemistry and the subsequent meeting at the hen and stag parties. Ms. McKnights descriptions of the girls’ and guys’ outfits was wonderful and so funny. Rose and Lachlan’s relationship had a rocky start but became so sweet until his ex entered the picture. Her antics were so believable and provided much enjoyed angst. I loved reading about the restaurant the Ruins and the descriptions of Rose and Lachlan’s dates were great too. What a terrific ending. This was my first book by Kelsey McKnight and I look forward to the next book in this series. A strong 5 stars for this wonderful book.

I really liked pretty much every moment of this book. Rosie was so relatable and Katie was a good supporting character. Lachlan, as I said, was the perfect dreamy Scot in a kilt!

Rose is in the Highlands of Scotland for her best friend’s wedding when she meets a roguish Scotsman. Lachlan is the cousin of the groom and when he meets Rose their first encounter is not a good one. Rose embarrasses herself when she spills something on Lachlan’s kilt and assumes it’s a family heirloom. After that incident the next few encounters are Rose embarrassing herself even more in different incidents that I find comical. Lachlan on the other hand thought she would get his jokes but they all fell flat with her. Their interactions turn from comical to flirty which causes the book to turn up to boiling hot temperatures. Even though Rose is in Scotland for the wedding only her and Lachlan take their relationship to heights that neither of them expected to. There is someone working in the background trying to keep them apart but Lachlan is determined to fight his way through that battle. Is Rose determined to let outside forces come between something special or will she fight for what she truly wants.
The story is a sweet romance of finding love when you least expect it. The characters have great chemistry but the female lead could use a little personality change. Rose is stubborn and not willing to listen to reason when it comes to the hard things in life. She easily got embarrassed and when she did, I didn’t find a good reason for her to get that way. I found her to be on the insecure side because she always thought she was lacking and compared herself to another woman. I do not find insecurity in a woman to be a good character trait and it can spoil a book for me. Lachlan is a strong man to put up with her and I found that to be sexy and a great quality to have in a man. Their personalities complimented one another but I still found Rose’s character to be lacking a few qualities. She just threw the whole book off for me which caused Lachlan to stand out more for me. I loved Lachlan and the romance he put into this story. It’s a good romance with plenty of drama, laughter and love.

Rose takes a much needed vacation to Scotland to be her best-friend's maid-of-honor at her wedding. Her friend wanted Rose to hook up with the best man, Lachlan, but thinks he isn't interested. After a drunken and sexy night of passion, it seems both are embarrassed and that appears to be that.

Alas, not so.

What a fun book that got me in the feels. I so enjoyed it! You will too.

Scottish accents were dancing in my brain all night after I read this book. I absolutely loved it! This is the first book I have read that has been set in Scotland, yet you have succeeded in adding this lovely country to my Want to Visit list. Your descriptors were great and really helped to paint a vivid picture while reading. I will be actively seeking more books by Kelsey McKnight to read.

Rose and Lachlan’s story was a sweet romance with some laugh out loud moments. The supporting characters were fun and a glimpse of Scotland seen through a visitor’s eye also added to the story. To spilling food on an “heirloom,” mistaking a lord for a stable hand, and a surprise ending to a drinks-filled hen night, Rose keeps misstepping with Lachlan. As he does with her. Add in castles, ruins, a quirky best friend, and a jealous ex and hilarity and romance ensue.

**I received an arc copy for review.**I am a sucker for a Scottish hero. Rose heads to Scotland to attend her best friends sudden wedding. She’s been very dedicated to her career and hasn’t had much fun in the last few years.
Lachlan is the cousin of the groom and a binaries Scottish laird. He tries to pull a prank on Rose but ends up embarrassing her instead. After drinking too much at the “hen” party, Rose takes home a member of the “stag” party and wakes up next to Lachlan the next morning.
There is a smidge if drama involving an ex but overall, it’s a solid romance set in Scotland.

What a good read! This story was a nice light read, there was humor and romance. The chemistry between rose and Lachlan was something you could feel instantly.

If your looking for a feel good story with a HEA this is the book for you

I don’t know why but lately I’m a sucker for Scots. Seriously.

When I was reading, some parts kind of reminded me of the movie Made of Honor starring Patrick Dempsey.

For example a quick wedding after meeting someone in Scotland (in this case, her best friend marrying a guy after a couple of months), the whole Scotland theme, Scotland habits (the bride going from bar to bar kissing strangers for money).

Of course, it wasn’t completely the same!

What I missed in this book was dual POV (it’s just her POV). I kept waiting but I didn’t get it. I feel like I connect more with characters if there’s dual POV, so this is a star less for me. Also, there were times where the focus was more on the friendship between Rose and her best friend Kathryn and Kat’s wedding than on the relationship between Lachlan and her.

For me, the first half of the book a little dragged, but the last was quite okay. I did miss the whole ”I love you” sayings that are usually in the book.

3.5 stars.

What Happens in the Highlands by Kelsey McKnight is the typical Scottish fantasy novel that we all want to be in. Girl meets hot Scot, falls into bed with him, falls in love...what's not to love? We're all looking for our Jamie Fraser! This is a fun beach read, just don't expect great depth of character or a compelling storyline. Just go along for the ride and you will have a wild one!!!

I'm a big fan of historical Highland romances so I jumped at the chance to read a modern day tale. Rosie, the heroine, goes to Scotland to be the Maid of Honor in her best friend's wedding. While there she meets the groom's cousin, Lachlan. He's the laird of his clan, owns a castle, wears a kilt, and has a cute accent.

This book was fluffy and sweet. There isn't much depth to the two main characters but they are inherently likable. There's little to no angst in the story....a few misunderstandings and an ex-girlfriend thrown in at the end. It was a quick and easy read that I enjoyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and the characters and setting made it seem so real. The ending was a bit corny but nevertheless it did not detract from my enjoyment. Highly recommended.

Proper, straight-laced Rose hopes to have some no strings attached fun for once and there's no better opportunity than her best friend's wedding in the Scottish highlands. Sparks fly almost immediately between Rose and best man, laird, and castle owner, Lachlan. The two spend as much time together as possible leading up to the wedding and Rose begins to take not of how easy things are with Lachlan and the fact that she can just be herself with him. When an unwanted wedding guest from Lachlan's past arrives to stir up trouble, she threatens the fling that's not quite as casual as Rose had originally planned. Rose winds up heartbroken and just wanting her time in Scotland to end, even though she doesn't really want to go home to New Jersey. Lachlan sets about trying to make things right, but with a set date for Rose's departure, his efforts may not really matter.

This was a far cry from the historicals I've generally stuck with as of late, but it was a breath of fresh air and I think just what I needed to keep from slipping into a rut. Katie, the bridge in the story, was just annoying and some of the dialogue was a bit repetitive, but I found Rose to be very relatable and Lachlan was just lovely and adorable. This was fun, light-hearted, and cheesy in the best way and I quite enjoyed it.

Can I look past one of my least favorite tropes to try to enjoy a story about a woman who goes to Scotland to be MoH for her best friends wedding?? Eh. Maybe.

Really, really sweet! It kind felt like Maid of Honor meets Pride and Prejudice. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the next in this series! Great Book! Solid 4.5 stars!
