I was kindly sent this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher.

As soon as I read the blurb of this book I knew I would really enjoy it and it didn't disappoint. I love anything including werewolves, vampires and other immortal creatures, and I thought the way the author wrote these characters and the world they live in was very unique and very engaging.

I didn't really expect it to all go so fast, it was a very rapid read and I couldn't stop myself from turning the pages. It is definitely very addictive.

I really enjoyed the writing style, how easy it was to read. It's the kind of guilty pleasure book I read once in a while and it lived up to my expectations. I also loved Genesis and Ethan as characters, as well as all the others. I loved how they all came together.

My only negative point is that for me it just went way too fast. Between Genesis learning her fate and then everything else that happened, I think there was barely a week and for me that isn't very believable. Had it been set over a few months, I would have found it that much better.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyke and I'm surprised it took me this long to read it because it was so enjoyable and unputdownable. I gave this book 4 stars and I will probably continue this series, even though I would prefer to stick with Genesis and Ethan, instead of all the other couples, but I'll have to see how it turns out!

This book is pretty generic and cliche. I would say it was interesting at first but it turns out that it wasn't so original. The characters are also REALLY ANNOYING that 90% had my eyes rolling.

The Dark Ones, the first book I have read from this author offers mystery and romance. What a great combination. The storyline is done very well and the characters are believable. I was invested in reading this book and definitely recommend it.

I love paranormal novels, especially romance and urban fantasy. I especially enjoy when an author doesn't always follow traditional plots for supernatural themes.

Something about this book just made me gravitate to it long before I even knew what it was about. Had I known that this book would make me stay up until 4 AM just speeding through it with my heart in my hands.. well, I would have started it sooner!

Everything in this book, just screamed at my teenage Twilight loving heart and I was just enamored with these characters from the very first page.

I’m a fairly new Rachel Van Dyken reader but I’m already kicking myself for having missed out on her amazing storylines for so long. I’m currently speeding through the second book and I just can’t wait to see where the rest of this series takes me!

If you want to get away and lost in another world, The Dark Ones is a great place to go. The mixture of romance and mystery was enough to keep me interested in what happened to these characters. Some plot holes left me with questions, but it did not take away from the overall escapism the book provided.

This one started off really dark. I loved how the author set it up so that you, like the MC do not trust those around her. Even though they APPEAR to be doing everything for her protection.
I loved the premise, and I really liked all the characters. Especially as you found out more of their back stories.
The writing style was really easy to follow and the story flowed with ease and the twists were really good as it made the story go in directions I wasnt expecting.
I am excited now to get to book 2!

I really like this author and most of the books I've read from her I devoured. This one was a struggle for me to get through. I'm not sure if I just couldn't connect to the story or if it just wasn't that great. Would def read more by her but I think I will sit out any other of this series.

3.5/4 STARS

I’m not a huge fan of paranormal romance, but I really enjoyed this book
And besides genesis and Ethan’s love story, it’s the perfect setting for the rest of the characters, like Cassius, mason, Alex…

Really, it left me wanting for more books in the series!

My Thoughts

Rating: 1

Would I recommend it?No

Will I go on with the series? no

Will I read anything else by this author? It depended

First off I liked how you get different paranormal creatures in it : vampire, werewolf, dark one ( fallen angels) , sirens, and more , and while the author does offer a magical paranormal world that you will want to explore and experience it's like some of the other books so there's nothing different about it except that dark ones (fallen angels ) rule over the paranormal world . As for the main character there was times she got on my Nevers and I hated the way her mother kept telling her she was nothing ,and Genesis kept believe her as well as repeating it. As for the story sadly I didn't like it or enjoy it at all, with that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was sitting at the bottom of my to read pile for months and I didn't understand why again. Until I read the blurb again. Yep, sounds pretty dark and ominous. But surprisingly the story isn't that dark at all. It is actually kinda funny. Genesis has been brought up as a potential ‘employee’ for the Immortals. Since Immortals now rule the world, humans can be called to be of service. However, if you mess up or disobey, you end up dead. Or so Genesis has been taught all her life. Imagine her surprise when she is being called and ends up in a house with a male and female siren, a military werewolf and a broody vampire. She ends up watching the Lion King, with werewolf Mason, because he has never seen the movie. Of course there is a lot more to the story, like the feud between Ethan, the broody vampire and Cassius, the fallen archangel who both have marked Genesis.
But in all, the blurb doesn’t do the story justice .So, don't hesitate to pick up this one and then go straight through to the other stories about the Immortals. Have fun! Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken was an absolute mess. There was no real plot and character development. The story felt rushed, prosaic, and, I hate to say this, but boring. I’m sure the author wrote other great novels, but this one was definitely not for me. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this e-book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Oh if only people realised how much i love the combinations of erotic/vampires etc. This novel was fulfilling. For me, it ticked all the boxes for an entertaining intriguing and brilliant read. In my own personal experience, i was captivated and locked on every word on each page. To be honest, I found myself thinking that this novel could potentially have an sequel.

Everything about it just draws you in. I absolutely loved consuming this novel. I mean, i saw the description and was instantaneously hooked.

I definitely recommend it with the highest of recommendations. Any individual who loves the vampire scene will find themselves thoroughly pleased.

I give this novel 5/5 stars that it so rightfully deserves. Congratulations on a brilliant novel. I wish you every success.

Book Review- The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken

This is the first book in the Dark Ones series. The author introduces Genesis who is human, and her number is called. She has to report to the immortals. She has no clue what is really expected of her. What she has been taught is wrong. The author introduces the immortal council: a vampire named Ethan, a werewolf named Mason, Sirens named Alex and Stephanie. Their king is a Dark One named Cassius who is half-human, half-angel.
I felt for Genesis from the beginning. She is thrown into this world with inaccurate knowledge of those who inhabit it. She is part of a prophesy she knows nothing about. Cassius wants her and threatens Ethan to get her.
I like how Ethan reacts to her but refuses to admit it at first. He does have a sad past which fuels his fears. It’s understandable but there are a lot of secrets. There are surprises threaded throughout the story.
I liked Genesis as a character. She handles her situation well. Especially after she figures out her education about immortals is wrong. I loved her. She continuously came through with flying colors with each situation she faces. It was a great story and I can’t wait to read the next one. I give it a 4 out of 5.

This was so good. Genesis a human serving the immortals is called to mate with the vampire king. Ethan doesn’t know if he can love again even though he knows they must mate. What will they have to overcome together and will they be able to love coming from two different worlds? Book given to me on netgalley.

This was a easy read. Good writing, great story building and a nice romance story.

Ethan and genesis are not meant to be. Ethan story is sad, loves lost and all that Jazz. Genesis story is worse, terrible parenting and just complete disrespect for her.

There are a couple characters to add some comedy to the story and they shine. It’s a great book. I’ve even gone on to by the second in the series.
