a dense and slow but very informative read. in the uk i believe that until maybe the last decade or so, mac didn't have a huge brand presence here outside of make up artists professionals and make up hobbyists so i definitely wasn't even aware of how long they'd been fundraising towards aids causes with the viva glam lipsticks. gives an interesting context to the brand itself and continued support from the queer community including drag artists.

A very thorough history of MAC cosmetics, their social stamp as a corporation, and how important both are to the community.

I learned so much about this company and it's foundation that I had no idea about previously. Like the book states, little was known about MAC prior to this publication. It is fascinating to see what an impact they have made on the world.

While it is less fluff and more tough, it was well worth the read.

This book was not what I expected - it was so much more (although it did take me a while to read it - I am not sure if it will have pictures or not, but the file I got didn't and the text was small and crowded).

I first learnt that MAC is so much more than lipsticks in the first season of Ru Paul's Drag Race but never in such detail. Great book!

This book took me a while to get through but it was so worth it.

The writing in this book is very academic and reads definitely more like an academic paper and I wish that the writing had been a bit more accessible because I think it sheds a light on some very important topics.

I’d already learnt a lot by the time I was on page 15 and the rest of the book helped crystallise and deepen that new knowledge. I already knew a bit about Viva Glam but seeing the full impact it had on society. I also had a rather limited knowledge of marketing terminology but I definitely got to discover a lot in that aspect as well.

If you’re interested in the topic, this is definitely worth a read!
