While it was well written and it did pull at my heart , it took me a while to get into the story , so much so there was times I didn't feel like I wanted to pick it up.

Barlog frame this book as though someone is recounting a long story. While this can be jarring, the familiar tone is great for presenting an unfamiliar narrative. I liked it. My sister, however, did not. She thought is was not edited well. That was the point, I told her. In any event, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to lovers of little known history.

This was a really sad book that really breaks your heart when you find out how the Native Americans were treated.

Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC. I was drawn to this book and could not put it down. So much history and so sad to see how these people were treated. Thank you for allowing me to read this story

The Story about the insane asylum for native Americans touched my heart. In the way the book was written, the anguish of the inhabitants could literally be felt. The never ending duration of their misery as well. In the middle part, the book kind of dragged along. Almost like the life of the people discribed. I personally liked the book and the way it told the story. I am a non-native English speaker and received a copy of this book for free.
