While it was well written and it did pull at my heart , it took me a while to get into the story , so much so there was times I didn't feel like I wanted to pick it up.

Barlog frame this book as though someone is recounting a long story. While this can be jarring, the familiar tone is great for presenting an unfamiliar narrative. I liked it. My sister, however, did not. She thought is was not edited well. That was the point, I told her. In any event, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to lovers of little known history.
