Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of The Woman at 46 Heath Street by Lesley Sanderson.

When Ella comes home after a relaxing weekend to an ominous note about her marriage, her life shatters, and even worse, her husband doesn't deny it. But why the total 180? And who is this mysterious woman that her husband is now seeing. But life doesn't stop for Ella either when her friend Alice moves in with her to stave off the loneliness. Is Alice just a good friend trying to comfort Ella, or does she have more sinister intentions?

Yeah, this was fine. I've probably read at least five books similar to it. It had a bit of a whiny drag that I really struggled to resonate with. Decent plot with decent twists, but nothing that blew my mind.

I kept picking up, to read, and then putting it down in favour of something else, and when I finally did read it, I was kicking myself at leaving it so long!

A fabulous page turner, that I ended up reading in one sitting.

The premise was enticing...
Ella receives a letter, no stamp, swirly handwriting in black ink. “Your husband is having an affair”.
SIX words that changed her life.
And, when she confronts her husband, Chris, he doesn’t even try to deny it-immediately agreeing to move out.
Ella will have to take in a lodger, now-to pay the mortgage and have any chance at remaining in the house at 46 Heath Street.
But, Alice, the new lodger has her own reasons for wanting to move in..
While not a BAD book, it just didn’t feel fresh or original after these first few pages. I guessed who Alice was, well before the 50% point.
There was no misdirection even attempted-this story was too obvious for those of us who read a LOT of suspense.
Although I did deduct a star because a pet was killed. I just didn't think it was necessary.

Loved it..a shocking story about one man's actions and how their impact can effect generations to come. Edward and Nancy are newlyweds in love. Pior to their wedding Edward was a loving sweet gentleman. As soon as they marry, he changes into a sadistic, woman bashing monster. His actions will go on to scar Nancy and her 2 children for years to come with devastating consequences.

This one will keep you hooked. Such a tragic novel that will leave a massive impact on the reader for a long time

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

From the prologue to the very end, this was an excellent suspenseful read! I love how everyone had secrets. Even the very house at 46 Heath had secrets!
Sanderson created a cast of characters that I loved to hate or hated to love. With just the right amount of plot unraveling at just the right pace, she kept you guessing until the end. Just when Ella thinks her life is perfect. One note scrawled on a piece of paper and dropped through the mail slot changed her life forever. Was it her? Could it be? You’ll have to read this thriller to find out just what Sanderson has in store for you!

Firstly I don’t think this is a psychological thriller at all but more of a domestic drama featuring the lives of three women who have lived/live in this house and the life they led with the “men” who lived with them. It also came across from the way they reacted, to times earlier than the 1970’s. Mostly told from the needy Ella’s point of view who spent a lot of time whinging and whining and was pretty much a doormat. We heard from Alice and Nancy too and the latter’s was in diary form. The twists were very easy to see so not much of a surprise really. Loved the cover. This book was easy to read and started off very well but then faltered a bit and lost some momentum.

The Woman at 46 Heath Street by Lesley Sanderson is a taut, fast-paced psycholgical thriller that pulls you in from the very first paragraph. I could not turn the pages quickly enough to solve the mysteries that lie within the walls of the house on the heath.

Ella receives an anonymous letter which states, simply, "Your husband is having an affair." A bolt out of the blue, Ella is stunned that her husband, Chris, could betray her this way, particularly as the two are still grieving the loss of Chris' mother ten months previously. Chris and his mother, Nancy, have become the only family that Ella has ever known, and she thinks of 46 Heath Street as her own beloved home. When Ella refuses to leave the house, she takes in her friend Alice as a lodger, primarily for her own peace of mind. But Alice seems to have an agenda all her own.

The novel is presented as a dual timeline, both in the present and twenty years previously, when Nancy and Chris were living with Chris' father and twin sister Melissa. Through a series of diary entries dated between 1996 and 1997, we learn of the horrors that Nancy has endured inside the house.

This is an absolutely gripping novel, chock full of twists and turns, and it will keep you guessing until the final dramatic conclusion. I cannot wait to lay my hands on Ms Sanderson's first novel, The Orchid Girls, after reading this one. Recommended

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this fabulous ARC.

EXCERPT: Edward put his coat on and said he was going for a drink. I tried not to mind but he knew I didn't like being alone in the evenings with the expanse of the heath out there. The sound of the wind whipping up the trees and the house groaning and protesting unsettles me. I couldn't relax and I kept looking at the grandfather clock, which ticked loudly but never seemed to move. Nine o'clock came and then ten, and eventually I gave up and went to bed. But I couldn't sleep with the howling gale making the trees sound as if they were whispering horrible words to me.

I laid awake feeling scares and it was gone midnight when Edward came home and stumbled about downstairs. The worst thing was I wasn't just frightened of what was out there, I was also frightened of Edward and what he might do. He's different now and I don't know why. What have I done?

ABOUT THIS BOOK: The last letter is addressed to me. No stamp, swirly handwriting in black ink. I pull out a piece of paper, stiffening when I read the message. Hands trembling, the note slides to the floor.

Your husband is having an affair.

Six words written in neat block letters.

Six words slipped through her letterbox, destroying her marriage, exposing Ella’s perfect life as perfect lies.

But Ella has a plan: Alice is the answer to her problems. A lodger, to help keep her afloat, a friend, to keep the loneliness at bay.

Only Alice has her own reasons for wanting to live at 46 Heath Street…

MY THOUGHTS: This book was in fact better than my star rating may indicate....it kept me reading into the night, wondering just what was tying the residents, past and present, of this house together. It is not a particularly fast moving story, but it is intriguing.

The reason it didn't get 5 stars is that because in places it was a little predictable.....or is that just because I read too much?

A good solid psychological thriller written over two timelines - Ella in the present and Nancy in the past. Both coping with errant husbands in their own way.

A good, quick read that manages to be both captivating and a little predictable. I will definitely read more by this author.
