Calvin Ramsey comes from a family of baseball players. So no one is more surprised by the news of the outfielder being let go than him. He decides in order to deal with the news he will visit his mom and grandpa on his grandpas farm. What he doesn’t expect when he gets there is that his mom will be on a mission trip and the beautiful Josie acting as caretaker.

Josie is far from home. She is trying to stay out of the limelight and avoid having her heart broken again. She is also hiding a secret that she doesn’t want to get out. When she meets handsome Calvin she is instantly aware of the chemistry. Can she avoid him to keep her secret from coming out.

This was a good book, I read it in one sitting. I wish that we had a little more information on Calvin’s brothers but there are other books that will be about them. I look forward to reading those!

Quick, fun read! Cal’s future is uncertain and goes home to figure things out. Josie is in trouble, or so she thinks, and tries to hideaway for awhile. Sparks fly, and the trouble is resolved quickly. But not before Cal screws up. He makes up for it in the end.

I really liked this story by this new to me author. Calvin is a major leaguer baseball player who had a pretty great season or so he thought. When he is cut from his team he decides to go home and figure out what he is going to do next.
He meets Josie instead of his mom at the house. He learns that she is the caretaker while Calvin’s mom is on a mission trip. Josie is not impressed with Cal all she wants to do is to be left in peace to figure out what she is going to do next after the things that have happened to her recently.
Their is strong chemistry between them and they can no longer deny it. Will Josie’s past that she has worked so hard to leave behind find its way back and possibly ruin what she could have with Cal?
I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. I can’t wait to read about the next Ramsey brother...we’ll done!!

Two people with doubtful futures explosively combine, each knowing it can only be for two weeks at most. I was so engrossed in the story and in how Josie and Cal would be able to resolve their individual dilemmas while maintaining a relationship that quickly goes from beyond the two week limit. It is a very entertaining and fun novel with the right amount of tension.

his is more of a just shy of 4 star read, and this is due to me just feeling like I needed more of Cal and Josie getting to know each other and spend time together to really build the attraction to each other. In saying that it was still a really good read and I loved to getting to know Cal and Josie as well as learn about Cal's Mum and Granddad who both seem to be like awesome people who were let down by those they loved. I hope we get to meet Cal's other 2 brother and sister in future books as it would be great to know them all more!

Outfielder Calvin Ramsey returns to his Texas farm home after being released from his team, an unexpected surprise sure to tarnish the family baseball legacy. But when he finds a sexy stranger acting as the temporary caretaker for his childhood home, all thoughts of baseball disappear. After losing her savings to a swindler ex-boyfriend, Josie Vance moves to Last Stand to start fresh where no one knows her unhappy past or the con that bankrupted her. But her peaceful healing time evaporates when the homeowner’s son arrives and throws himself into life on the farm—and charming Josie. She can’t risk an affair that draws attention to her or her past. Especially not when the public’s fascination with the baseball-playing Ramsey clan is at an all-time high. Can she keep her secrets, her low profile, and her heart too?
This was a quick read but there was a lot of story packed in the 12ish chapters. I thought the author did a great job in building characters I wanted to read about in a book with a straight-forward and predictable plot. She’s also nicely set up further books with the introduction to one of Cal’s siblings. I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend.

I loved this book, although I read it in a sort of reading frenzy. I loved Josie’s sweetness and kindness in her character, although she had some sass in her what made her interesting!. Cal, a baseball player, who got fired by his manager is very opinionated, but he can think out of the box too, which is a good quality when he has to humblepie his way back to Josie. I loved reading about their attraction and how Josie tried to fight it.

He didn’t think coming home would mean falling in love

Calvin has returned to Last Stand, Texas after being released from his pro baseball team, when he finds his mom has hired a caretaker, Josie. Josie has taken on this job, to start a fresh and put her past behind her. Calvin is just waiting for the next phone call, hoping another team will pick him up. Soon they can't deny the chemistry that they share but will Josie's past hinder them from moving forward.

A quick read that I really enjoyed. Great characters. I love the farm. A great start to new series, what's better than baseball, but baseball and romance! I recommend this book.

Calvin is a professional baseball player who had a great season last year but his batting numbers this year have declined. He is cut from the team and it became a case of what have you done for me lately so he returns to his hometown to re-evaluate his future.

Josie ends up in Last Stand, Texas and she is looking after Calvin’s mother’s home while she is on a mission. This gives her a chance to not only recover financially but to see what fallout occurs because of her past.

She wasn’t expecting Calvin to arrive at his mother’s home in the middle of the night planning to stay while she mistakes him for an intruder. It was only a matter of time before the chemistry between them ignites but will her past destroy what they could have in the future?

Josie is a good person who was stuck in a bad situation and was running out of options while Cal is facing the loss of his dream so sometimes he tended to react without thinking. I enjoyed this story and would like to read stories about the Ramsey siblings as well.

The Perfect Catch by Joanne Rock takes place in my new favorite fictional town, Last Stand, Texas. Ms. Rock has written a delightful take on what happens when baseball lets you down. It’s a sport romance that is not a sport romance. Not everyone stays in the sport, this is a wonderful story on how one man remakes his dreams instead of letting a defeat destroy him. Calvin Ramsey could have wallowed in what others would call failure but he finds a new way to pursue his dream. I like that

Josie Vance has had a different life than Calvin. No one to encourage or support, many who criticize and use her. I felt for this character but admired her continued effort to try again even if she had to run away to do so. What she didn’t want to try was another chance on love. One can hardly blame her. I enjoyed seeing Calvin fascination with the “mystery woman” as he works to realign his goals. Josie needed to a safe place to heal while also having someone who believed in her. Calvin’s mom unknowingly played an important part in this whole process. I loved that!

4.5 Stars

Such a sweet story of finding trust you didn't know you had and falling in love. The story of Cal Ramsey from a baseball dynasty is home in Last Stand, Texas to reevaluate and lick his wounded ego. Josie Vance came to Last Stand to get her life back on track the issues from their respective pasts may influence how they go forward. A very enjoyable read.

This story was simply short and sweet! It didn’t really have any drama which I loved cause this was a good medium after reading the previous book that had drama everywhere.

Josie goes to Last Stand, Texas in search of a new beginning only to meet Cal Ramsey a baseball player who was cut from his last team. Forced to return to his hometown, Cal meets Josie, the caretaker his mother hired to take care of her home & garden while she was away on a mission. Sparks quickly fly between these two and they get together quickly.

Definitely could have used with a bit more of the story but I overall liked how short it was and how I was able to read it in one sitting.

This is Josie Vance and Calvin Ramsey's story.
My oldest son may stop by the house sometime this spring.
Seated on the porch swing at dusk, Josie Vance reread the text message thread that had sent her into panic mode earlier that week. Ever since she’d taken the job as a caretaker for this mammoth old farmhouse in Last Stand, Texas, she liked sitting outside to watch the fireflies come out as a reward for a hard day’s work on the property. At those times, she could almost forget this place didn’t belong to her. Like the fluffy little dog on her lap—Kungfu the Maltipoo—and the two Lab mixes snoozing at her feet, the things around her were borrowed pleasures. But when the world all around her was quiet, she simply enjoyed it and didn’t care that it was temporary. All week she’d been too frazzled by her employer’s messages—the threat of an “oldest son” stopping by—to enjoy the usual twilight ritual.
He has been out of touch, so I can’t be sure. It’s just maternal intuition!
He’d been released. Designated for assignment and put on waivers for any one of twenty-nine other teams to claim. In the weeks to come, he could be picked up by any other team for next to nothing. As of today, he was the special of the week—the player put on the major league clearance rack, so to speak. Though uncertain if another team would pick him up, he was certain that at best his future would be as a journeyman utility guy.
But right now, with his batting average the worst it had been in his entire career, there was a chance he’d be out of baseball for good.
Calvin Ramsey, son of a storied baseball family with a pitching legend for a father, first of his name to lock down a seven-figure signing bonus, had just been given the boot. The kicker was that he hadn’t even been remotely worried about his roster spot. He was only a spot starter, but for a half-decade he was a proven commodity off the bench, a fan favorite for timely pinch-hits, and perhaps most importantly, well liked in the locker room. He was the teammate most likely to dump the Gatorade bucket on that day’s hero after a win, accepting of his role in the dugout, and genuinely supportive of all his teammates, regardless if their struggles meant more playing time for him.

This was a quick enjoyable read. The characters were easy to like, so was the farm where most of the story took place.
My favorite quote is very easy to find, it’s the words between the quotation marks in the next to last paragraph of the book, bet it makes you smile.

This is a super quick fun, sexy read. I like the story and characters and honestly I would have like a bit more of them. Things move along pretty quickly as you would expect from a book of this length. Pro baseball player Calvin Ramsey finds himself adrift when his team abruptly cuts him from the roster. Now with nowhere else to go he returns home to regroup. He's surprised to find a strange woman in the house rather than his mom. Josie Vance needed to get away from her life and disappear for a while. Taking a job as a caretaker in small town Last Chance TX seems like the perfect solution. Everything is great until Calvin returns home and blows up her plans in the process.

I recommend this one for a quick fun escape.

Getting to know the diversity of families living in Last Stand, Texas has been an adventure, one that isn’t over yet but I’m loving meeting the people who make up this small Texas town. THE PERFECT CATCH brings us the Ramsey family, with a narcissistic famous baseball father who pretty much shaped his sons after his own ambitions and one daughter who left home over a yet unknown conflict. It was easy to love the grandfather who although grumpy at times loved his land, his ranch which now has become a farm/orchard and only wanted to be able to pass his legacy down to his grandchildren because his son wants nothing to do with his heritage. The father is a piece of work (and that’s being polite) who now lives his life through his sons by belittling their efforts on the field and his always needs to be the center of attention attitude – could not stand “daddy”, and wasn’t expected to. Cal is the oldest son who has had a successful career in the big leagues right up until a not so great season has him unexpectedly cut from the team. To say that Cal is reeling as he heads home to Last Stand is an understatement. And once he arrives home, things are going to get even more unsettled and interesting.

Josie broke my heart early on. She’s had a rough life with an overdemanding, nasty mother who took advantage of her over and over. Josie made the mistake of trusting the wrong man, of believing in dreams that turned into a nightmare. She’s left home looking for a fresh start where no one knows her past or the troubles that might be following her. She’s found peace, purpose and breathing space watching over Cal’s mother’s home, her bees, her gardens, and her dogs. Now, suddenly, she’s faced with a very suspicious handsome man who sets her heart pounding. Falling for him is the last thing she should be doing as it could be the downfall of new dreams or the best thing to ever happen to her.

THE PERFECT CATCH is a heartfelt romance between two people who have issues to be dealt with and are preoccupied with the mess life has handed them. I enjoyed watching them banter and dance around each other as they worked their way from cautious to looking for something permanent. The parents (one on each side) are the bad guys in this story and circumstances will make or break this couple apart. I was caught up in another family from Last Stand and am definitely looking forward to learning more about the rest of this family. If you enjoy a romance that touches your heart, gives you characters to loathe and others to cheer for then you’re going to enjoy this beginning story in the Texas Playmakers series.

Josie's been burned by a con man, and she might be on the lam, so keeping her past close to the vest and guarding her heart is her best defense. But, one look at the smooth baseball player, Calvin, makes it hard. Being the caretaker of his mother's farm and friend to his grandfather won't make things easy, especially when he starts helping around the properties.

Calvin was let go from his team, it smarts, but he's not done with the game. Laying low in his hometown was the plan till he found out his mother left the farm in the care of a woman with a secretive past. As they make peace and spend time together, there's a spark of passion.

Neither is ready for commitment, but when things are just falling into place, each has things from the past come out in a very public way. Is it too late for them to find their way back together?

Enjoyed and recommend this story!

I enjoyed this romance. I liked Cal and Josie. Cal is a guy who is on top of the world and then one day gets broadsided by life. Josie has always had to struggle and life has never been easy. Her vulnerability and loneliness causes her to get scammed by a guy. So she has some big trust issues. I thought the attraction and chemistry between these two was strong. I do wish that this book had been longer. In the end I felt things wrapped up too abruptly. Still it was a good read.

It is not often I read one that has anything to do with sports unless it somehow tempts me as this one had. Then again it does have lots of other things in it like good fun romance. Josie and Calvin give you one that has you become immersed into their world thanks to the catch. When the spotlight hits certain areas you hold your breath waiting to see what comes of it. Their tango will pull on you wanting a certain outcome. Trust and healing play a big part with those good at tapping into our emotions. You latch onto this following easily all the way until the ending that is just right.
