This was a kind of short book that you wish would be longer. It was a short, easy read and I for one need that every once in a while.
The characters were cute together. Josie was enjoying being on her own in a pretty isolated situation, and Calvin was running from his imploding baseball career. Calvin's grandfather played a pretty important part in the story and he was a total hoot! I could actually see him walking down the gravel road with his walker, while wearing his slippers and bathrobe!
I enjoyed the developing relationship between Josie and Calvin. They really were good for each other (even if Calvin was a butt at one point). Ms. Rock gave me a HEA, and that makes ME happy!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

I want to believe in love at first sight but this story still seems like it went way too fast. The whole book they deny their attraction to each other. Neither wants to talk about their past or what they are running from. They finally take the plunge and sleep together. The next day a huge mess breaks out, within an hour they are fixed and madly in love to live with each other for all time. And all this happens in less than a week. The book just didn't seem plausible.

4 1/2 STARS!

A hunky ballplayer, family drama galore and lots of sassy banter! With the first book in her new Texas Playmakers series, Joanne Rock brings a baseball dynasty to life with the backdrop of a good-hearted Texas family. Cal is the son of a retired star pitcher and his brothers are in the game as well, so to hear the news that he might be disgracing the family name by being cut from his team is life-changing to him. The setting of the story is really interesting and the characters hooked me quickly. The ending was a bit abrupt and left me hanging a little bit, but overall I loved the story and look forward to hearing his brother's stories!

When professional baseball player Calvin Ramsey learns that he has been cut from the team, he's thrown into a tailspin. Baseball is all he's ever known, and he's not sure what to do with himself if his career is really over. For now, he's going to head home to Last Stand, Texas to see his family and let the realness of working on the farm ground him a little bit.

Josie Vance fled embarrassment and despair in Florida to take this temporary caretaker job in Texas. She doesn't know what to think when her boss's son shows up in the middle of the night thinking he's coming home to Mama. The last thing she needs is another handsome man finagling his way into her heart ... the last one that did that ended up stealing her life savings and sending her life into chaos. No thank you ... she'll just steer clear of this hunky cowboy ... if only he wasn't so tempting!

This is a lovely, contemporary romance with a pro baseball player coming to terms with being released from his team and a young lady who has been swindled by her ex-boyfriend then sacked from her job - by her Mum! It is the first book in a new series and I'm really looking forward to reading further stories in the series in future.

Josie Vance has moved from her Florida home and job to Last Stand in Texas to work as the caretaker for the home and dogs of a lady who is working abroad for a few months. When his son, baseball player Calvin Ramsey, returns home to consider his future, he never expected to find Josie there. She's determined not to fall for another player but the attraction between the two is mutual but both are wary. Will love find a way to bring them together or will secrets from the past drive them apart?

This is a story of disjointed families, fame, notoriety, fresh starts and romance. It is a great, lighthearted and entertaining read. Calvin and his brothers all have issues with their controlling and manipulative father, whilst Josie has a vindictive, terrible mother. As the two get to know each other they discover they have much more in common! Together will they strike out or will love help them score a home run?

I requested and received a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.

Calvin returns home to Texas after being released from his baseball team which is a bitter pill to swallow when your family name is legendary in the game. Imagine his surprise when he gets to the farm and finds a sexy stranger is the new handyman. Josie moved to Texas to escape from her past and to recover from being swindled. She doesn't want to leave the farm or answer too many of Calvin's questions which make him suspicious of her. Too bad they both more in common than they realize especially dealing with a difficult parent. Thrown together on the farm will they both see what's right in front of their eyes? You really need to read this book and go on the journey with Calvin and Josie it's definitely worth it! I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.

A book about professional player that was let off from the team after his injury and his caretaker.
The plot was interesting and the story had a great potential, so I was interested in reading despite few bumps on the road... This is a new author to me and her books. It is a short read and I finished it in one sitting.
It was perfect for this period when I was so busy but wanted to read something that will relax me.

Calvin Ramsey is a professional baseball player who has just been released by his team. Josie Vance is working as a caretaker for Cal's mother while she's away. She's on the run from some bad decisions and a handsome swindler who stole her money. She just wants peace and quiet and he needs a place to get his life back on track. .That place turns out to be Last Stand, Texas. He has issued with a controlling father and she has issues with a terrible mother. Will this romance be a home run or will they strike out?

The Perfect Catch by Joanne Rock is a very short sweet read. I adore the way that Rock writes she keeps me glued to her words. This book is absolutely no different. A baseball player and a girl trying to lie low can be a difficult situation to maneuver. You will adore this read.

Cal comes from a long line of professional baseball players so when he loses his starting position and then is cut completely from the team, he must head home to face his family. His mother has hired a caretaker, Josie, to stay in her country home while she is away. Josie is young, ambitious and beautiful. She realizes the attraction between she and Cal but knows that she is still the hired help. As their relationship progresses, Josie is torn over the the idea of being in the public eye and having her heart broken by a handsome athlete. Good story but I didn't feel a real connection between the two. Josie's character was a little "light" and I didn't feel any empathy toward her situation. For the reasons listed, I give this book three stars because it was likable and I think that many will enjoy the story.
Thank you to Tule Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book.

A short read, The Perfect Catch is an ok read for me. I didn’t mind the story but felt something was missing and struggled to connect fully. I will read more by this author and recommend you give this story a go for yourself.

I liked the set up for this book, but it all seemed so rushed after we were presented with the characters. We meet Calvin Ramsay, a professional baseball player who has just been released from his team. He goes back to Texas where his family has a ranch. There he meets Josie who is house sitting for his mother while also looking after Calvin’s grandfather. THey’re immediately attracted to each other, but Josie isn’t interested in getting involved with another charming guy given that the last guy she was involved with stole her meager life savings. Now she has fled her home because her mother has threatened to turn her in to the police for performing repair work at the apartment house she had managed for her mother without a contractor’s license. When I learned about her situation, I couldn’t believe that Josie had really bought into that this was a legal threat, but I guess she is that naive.

So we have the build up for Josie and Cal, but then we get complications, doubt, and HEA all in a few pages. It’s as if the author ran out of time and just decided to wave a wand and resolve everything and write “The End.” And we never find out if Calvin is going to get an offer from another team although we get a few hints that he will. It’s all very unsatisfying.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

The Perfect Catch is by Joanne Rock. It’s a short read, easily read in one afternoon, with a sexy baseball player unsure of what his future holds and a determined woman who just needs a place to let her wounds heal a bit!

Calvin Ramsey thought he had the world on a string. He is a professional baseball player in the major leagues. But everything changes when he goes in to practice one day and is told he is being let off the team. The only place that sounds good to Calvin to be is home. To enjoy the peace and quiet of his boyhood home until he figures out what to do next. So he heads back to Last Stand, Texas.

Calvin’s mom is away on a trip and has hired a woman to take care of her home, her dogs, and her bee hives. That woman is Josie Vance. Josie has spent most of her life trying to run her mother’s apartment building, with no help at all from her mother. She has been forced to repair things with spit and duct tape. Josie was lonely and fell easy prey to a swindler. She lost her entire life’s savings. After a heated argument with her mother over her job, it’s time for Josie to make a change. When she heard about the caretaker’s position in Texas, she thought it would be the perfect way to figure out her future, until a certain sexy baseball player came into the picture.

“Of all the women he could have chosen, why was he so taken with a mystery woman who’d made it clear she didn’t want to get to know him better?”

Cal and Josie try to keep the attraction between them under wraps. But it’s too strong. And you know that the minute they give in to what they are feeling, their pasts are going to come back to haunt them.

As I said, this was pretty short. Josie had been badly hurt so it was hard to trust. And Cal loved the game of baseball and hadn’t given up on returning to his career. So no matter what their time together had an expiration date. I really liked Josie and her determination to do well at no matter what she attempted. I liked Cal okay but disliked the way he jumped so soon to a conclusion when he should have just waited. The story did just sort of seem to end. I would have liked a further glimpse into the future to see how things turn out for these two. If you know me, then you know that things like that bug me and I will probably be thinking about it for days. All in all, it was a sweet story of two people who had been beat down in the past and given a second chance at happiness. All they had to do was to be brave enough to take it.

I voluntarily received a copy of this book for an honest review!

Honest I will be. The first thing I noticed was the Thor must love baseball or at least be familiar with it, being a fan myself...reading that they knew what Tommy John’s surgery was, is interesting.

However the fast past wham bam romance is not my cup of tea. I want something stronger, something worth fighting for. This felt a little to quick for me and too easy. Love is a battlefield...not a roll over play dead thing. I wanted more passion. While if you enjoy a quick and easy read with good characters this is for you! Especially if you like spunky grandparents....pulling in a failing parental relationship, money hungry skanks and love able siblings this is the read for you!

The Perfect Catch by Joanne Rock is book 1 of Texas Playmakers. Texas Playmakers follows the Ramsey Family who have a baseball legacy. First up is Calvin Ramsey who is having issues with his career as well as his father. Josie Vance is the caretaker foir his mom's house. How they interact is interesting. Joanne Rock keeps you interested in the story and wanting to know what will happen next to the whole family. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Overall a good story. Cal is a baseball player, who is on a hiatus after his team let him go. Arriving at his mom's house he meets Josie, who is taking care of the place while his mom is gone. I enjoyed this one, and had a hard time putting it down at times. The only two issues I didn't like was his insistence of still thinking of going back to baseball, instead of even considering helping his grandfather. The other issue was his reaction to finding out about Josie's past and her reaction back. Minor overall though, and would still highly recommend this story.

Josie is loving life in Last Stand tending to the garden the dogs and the bees plus she is hiding out from a possibility her mother has a warrant out for her arrest. She keeps to herself and doesn’t go anywhere except to keep an eye on Everett next door who was hurt recently and gets around on a walker.
When Cal’s baseball career tanks he comes home to his mothers home in Last Stand to lick his wounds and wait for a call from his agent. When Cal lets himself in he is greeted by a stranger with a shotgun even though you can tell she doesn’t know how to use it.
Cal is attracted to Josie right from the start but she is very cautious about giving him any details about her life but they both are circling around each other because their attraction is so strong. Josie and Cal have issues with their parents that are similar but different and it made for a really enjoyable book.

The Perfect Catch is based on an interesting premise. Former pro baseball player, Cal, goes home to his family’s Texas farm. While there, he meets the woman, Josie, who his mother hired to care for her home and bee hives while away on a mission trip. As expected, the two fall in love. This would all be well and good, except for the fact that there seems to be no chemistry between the two main characters and the storyline is so rushed that it’s not believable. I would encourage the author and her editor to consider pulling this book and significantly reworking it prior to publication. I’m not sure that I’ve ever given a book 2 stars before, but in its present state, I can’t in good conscience give it more.
