This is a NEW to me author & books! The blurb and cover is what caught my attention!! This writing style is a bit different for me and out of norm but I gave it a 100% as always!

After an injury Calvin gets releases from his baseball contract and it thrown into the hands of a beautiful smart caretaker. Josie is a sweet girl who is looking for a new beginning, a fresh start, after the horrific incidents, she just needs to feel back to normal and move on. After she dodges all the on-coming's from Cal, he proposes a two week agreement to her, until his mother returns. Easy, clean..what can go wrong?!

The read was easy, like you're just reading, I was expecting a bit more but got enough to keep me engaged. I did get frustrated at points but only because I'am that reader, I need to know reader hehe. But it wasn't too terrible where I wanted to stop. This was missing the overall cowboy romance feel I guess I was expecting, but in all the same still great. For a new to me author, this was a great read!

I am rating this a 4 & would recommend it!

** spoiler alert ** I thought it was a great story.
Calvin gets the boot from his baseball team and decides to wait out the possibility of another team picking him up at his mother's home in Last Stand, TX. He arrives in the middle of the night to the bad end of a shot gun and a passel of dogs for a greeting. He meets the caretaker of his mothers home.
The two decide to declare a truce that lasts maybe a half a day each wanting answers to the others past.

My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed. I felt there should have been more time between the guy and girl getting back together. This story should have been a super romance novel. I truly enjoy reading this authors books and look forward to more from her.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this addition to the group of books taking place in Last Stand, Texas. The link with this book and the others is through the hero’s grandfather who was injured in the accident during Minna’s Birthday party. This book is Cal Ramsey and Josie Vance’s story. Josie was hired by Cal’s mother as caretaker of her house and animals and to keep an eye on her her ex father in law. We learn that Josie escaped a potential legal situation caused by her mother’s shoddy business practices and her working as a contractor without a license to manage her mother’s apartment building. Cal returns home after being fired from his MLB team for declining performance. He is devastated. His father drilled baseball 24/7 to him and his 2 brothers. Both Cal and Josie are cautious when they meet. Both are suspicious of the other. Then they start to spend time together and feel an attraction. They decide to try a fling for the two weeks left on Josie’s job. Unfortunately her past catches up to her and starts to cause Cal a problem with his quest to find another team. Angst and romance ensue. The book is shorter than some but it was still a great read. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series by Ms. Rock.

Cal and Josie have both been hurt by things that have happened in their past. When these two meet sparks fly. Even though neither of them is looking for a relationship somethings we cannot control what fate has in store for us. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I was drawn into their world and it would not let go. I cannot wait to see what this author has in store for us in the next book of this series. Thanks Net Galley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another enjoyable reading by Joanne Rock, I know what to expect from her and I really enjoy her writing style, the pacing on her stories even if I felt the ending might have been a bit rushed but it didn't detract me from being invested in the story and its characters.

I liked getting to know Cal and Josie, to see how their relationship starts to develop, they're both very likable characters. Their love story is sweet and romantic a bit too insta-love but It wasn't a problem for me. The one thing that'd have made me liked it more is if it had maybe been longer, there's so much potential and maybe if the story wasn't as short it'd have felt more satisfying, but it was still a nice and entertaining read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for allowing me to review The Perfect Catch by Joanne Rock.

A caretaker job in peaceful Last Chance, Texas seems like the perfect escape to Josie Vance who wants to make a new start after being swindled by a con man and taken for granted by her unstable mother. She settles into her new role looking after the gardens and home of one of the wealthy Ramsey family members and finds contentment as she plans how to keep employed after the summer job is over. Life has promise and order until an unwanted house guest shows up - Cal Ramsey, the MLB star son of her employer. Just cut from his team, his career prospects bleak, Cal has more than enough time on his hands to discover what secrets the attractive caretaker is holding so dear. Determined to protect the family he’s neglected for his career from whatever Josie is hiding, Cal is also determined she’s affair-worthy material while he’s stuck in career limbo with nothing to do but watch the attractive caretaker’s every move.

This is the first book I have read by Joanne Rock and I would be happy to read more. Her dialogue is effortless, natural, effective, and keeps the story going. Lovable, believable characters that make the reader wonder what’s coming next. The Perfect Catch is a fun, page-turning flirtation with an eye-opening look into the life of professional baseball players. While the romantic relationship isn’t greatly developed, The Perfect Catch is still delightfully light and airy, good for an afternoon distraction from reality. The scenic details and minute actions of the characters transport the reader to the idyllic town of Last Chance and the Ramsey homestead. Fans of Diane Palmer will enjoy Joanne Rock and the foreshadowing of what’s to come for the Ramsey brothers in the Texas Playmakers series.

“The Perfect Catch” by Joanne Rock is book one of her Texas Playmakers series and takes place in Last Stand, Texas.

With his baseball career on hold, Cal Ramsey returns home to find a woman in his mother’s house.
Josie Vance is hiding in this small Texas town and the last thing she needs is Cal asking questions. They call a truce while they help Cal’s grandfather with the family farm.
But they can’t call a truce to the chemistry that arcs between them.

Ms. Rock gives us a story mixed with humor and heart as she shows us how a parent can still affect their children’s lives even when they become an adult.

“The Perfect Catch” is exactly that—a perfect book to start your summer off right. I can’t wait to read more books with the Ramsey family.

You can never go wrong when you pick up a book by this talented author, and this one proves the point.
This one centers around Calvin Ramsey and Josie Vance. Cal/Calvin is a well known baseball player who never expected to be let go from his team. Baseball is his life and with his future uncertain, he decides to go to his mother’s farm.
Josie is a young woman who has left her life in Florida and is in hiding working as a caretaker at Cal’s mother’s farm.
The attraction is there , but both have their issues and try to keep their distance. As they try to deal with their lives , a friendship develops. But the road will be rocky and gets worse when secrets are exposed.
It’s a story about family dynamics. On how parents can make or break the lives of the children, no matter their age. It’s a story about heartbreaks, but also hope , and maybe love.
Another touching and well written story by this author.
I am looking forward to future books in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley . The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This was my first time reading a book by Joanne Rock. On one hand I thought the book was the perfect length and on the other hand I though Cal and Josie ‘s relationship moved two quickly. I was glad to see it ended better than I thought it would once Cal found out about her past. This was a quick read book that I would recommend to fellow readers. I most likely will finish this series as the books come out.

Unfortunately I did not LOVE this book. It was a decent short story however it was very slow in the beginning and it felt like in one day they went on a date slept together had some drama and fell in love. It was a not very believable to me. However she did set it up for the next characters and hopefully the timing will be better in the next book!

Absolutely loved reading this book about the Ramsay family. It introduces all the characters in the family and gives snippets of information about their personality or the role that they are going to play in the series. This leads to you asking more questions and eager to find out more about the whole family. Cal and Josie get you hooked on the book which is believable and realistic love story. I can’t wait to read the next installment in the Ramsay series.

A struggling baseball player and a girl hiding out. Two people who come together in this story under challenging circumstances. A very nice story that once you start you will want to finish it one sitting. Definitely looking forward to reading the next two books about Cal's brothers. Definitely recommend this book and any other by this author, very enjoyable books.

I felt like this story was missing something. I liked the story line but it developed at an odd pace....slow to start and then declaring their love for each other at essentially end of book. The chemistry between the H/h was lacking. I will likely read the next book in the series to see if the chemistry and pace of story improve. I did like the characters and side characters and there’s a lot to work with here.

The Perfect Catch is a short, sweet book about Cal, a professional baseball player who has recently been cut from his team, and Josie, a woman harboring some secrets while acting as a caretaker for Cal’s mother’s home. The two meet and there is chemistry between them, but neither is interested in talking about their past and they are both unsure of where their futures will take them. Thus, Cal and Josie are unsure about what to do with their attraction to each other. I liked this part of the book - that they are definitely both interested in each other but aren’t sure what they can offer at the moment.

My issue with the book is that there was almost more time spent describing the scenery and each character’s back story than there was time spent on the actual “relationship” (if you can really call it that). The first half of the book moves very slowly, and then the second half happens at lightning speed. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but wow, I almost felt some whiplash from the changing status of their relationship.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This truly is a very sweet book despite its pacing issues.

I enjoyed this book. Cal has been let go from his baseball team and goes to his family home. Josie is staying there taking care of the home, bees and grandfather, Everett. He’s such a character. Josie is “hiding” from possible legal troubles back in Florida. She was nothing to do with a “player” and Cal instantly wants Josie.

Josie and Cal are attracted to each other and get to know each other. Cal finally convinces Josie to a two week affair but after their first night her troubles could cause troubles for Cal.

I loved how Everett tried to stop Josie at the end and how he gave Cal a hard time.

Joanne has written a great story and really can tug on your heart. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I loved the HEA of this story.

The Perfect Catch left me cringing over the author’s writing style and bored with the plodding— and then accelerated—plot line. Since I’ve first begun to read as a young child, my reading has matured and I try to select books that match that level of writing. Unfortunately, Joanne Rock’s The Perfect Catch held a bathetic trope, a trite quality that focused on ’squeezing’ sentiment in the characters and driving the reader towards the above-mentioned cringing. This style of writing took away from what should have been a quaint romance for the average-minded short romance book reader. The writing and the meandering pace of the story that centers on the characters having the same conversation for two thirds of the book had me griping with my boredom.

Short, sweet, romantic love story of a high profile sports player down on his luck and a once bitten, twice shy woman...both of whom are running from themselves.
