A great story of a mother who keep fighting for her child, wherever her child might be. When Kate is volunteering at the runaway hotline, she receives a phone call from her daughter pleading with her to tell her parents that she is ok. Her daughter "ran away" two years ago, and the police have stopped looking. Kate has withdrawn from family and friends because she doesn't believe that her daughter would run away and her family and friends want her to move on. Now with this renewed sense of purpose, Kate sets out to really find out what happened to Sophie.

This is a great thriller with an emotional pull. Rowley delivers twists and turns that keep you reading until way past your bedtime. She created a sympathetic character with Kate, avoiding the popular trope of the “evil” female protagonist that so many thrillers take these days without compromising on the suspense and twists. The plot is well conceived with lots of layers that come together with a satisfying conclusion.

Where the Missing Go by Emma Rowley is a thriller told mainly from the point of view of a mother who’s teenage daughter went missing. Divided into different parts eventually the daughters point of view also comes into play as the story continues.

Kate Harlow has followed any lead or clue she can for two years since her daughter, Sophie, disappeared. Initially the police investigated as Sophie was only sixteen but the case went cold and with all the evidence pointing to Sophie having run away it wasn’t a priority.

Now however Kate gets a call at the hotline she volunteers for that she is sure is her daughter. Despite the police being uninterested in following up since Sophie would now be eighteen Kate begins digging into her daughter’s past in order to finally find her.

Where the Missing Go is one that really builds itself at an extremely slow pace with each section picking it up a slight bit more than the last. As a reader I had to tell myself that eventually we are going to get some twists and learn the outcome as the pace was one that was hard to get fully immersed into. The story was decent in this one though and I liked how the past was worked into Sophie’s disappearance leaving me to rate this one at 3 1/2 stars.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Review________________📚📚📚/5

Your child is gone. She is missing and she does not want to be found. How could you sleep at night? The world goes on around you as you are still and stuck in a life you did not ask for. A life without your child and your marriage is done. You keep looking even when the police have stopped.

Emma Rowley introduces Kate Harlow and the life Kate is forced to survive in. Her daughter, Sophie, has run away. Postcards have arrived with little information other than that Sophie, her only child, is fine and is not ready to come home. Her marriage has broken up and the police have given up. Her friends and family think she is losing her mind. When Kate receives a phone call from her daughter at the hotline she volunteers at for the missing, it is too good to be true. Kate knows it was Sophie on the other end of the line. No one believes her. Not her family. Not the police. No one.

Rowley leads us down the suspenseful path with Kate as she loses herself to find her daughter. Kate has struggled day to day for two years to find anything that may allow her to understand why Sophie left let alone where she went. Suddenly, evidence and clues begin to surface that Kate cannot ignore. The police finally take notice but are no closer than they have been since Sophie left. Is Kate seeing what isn’t there? Is someone playing upon her fears just to torture her? Emma Rowley knows. Her novel is suspenseful twisty in the best way a thriller can be. The novel started off slow to set the scene, but when it takes off and you cannot help but to keep up to find out exactly what happened.

I wanted to read this book the moment I read the synopsis, but unfortunately it didn't quite deliver for me. The story overall was well done, but it was very slow in the beginning. I just thought it dragged. I enjoyed reading about Kate and how she refused to give up even when others thought she was crazy. When the story reached the point that the twist was revealed I was not surprised at all. It's truly what I thought all along, just because there weren't really any other possibilities, so it just fell flat for me. It also felt a little unbelievable to be true. So while I applaud the premise, the execution was predictable, but still a good story.

This had a great premise but took so long to get anywhere I almost threw in the towel a few times.

The writing is good and the characters are interesting. The story doesn’t really get going until about the halfway point so this one requires some serious patience. Once it does pick up however it throws in some nice twists and surprises. I liked how the layers built up and connected. It turned out to be pretty clever.

Overall a decent read that I could recommend more highly had it taken off more quickly or been a bit shorter.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Kensington Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

This was a very emotional and riveting read for me, and I think most parents would feel the same. It was a very chilling and well written book, with very good emotional pull. I think my fellow thriller lovers would enjoy this book, although missing children are hard to read about and the fact the mother heard her voice is extremely chilling!
Will definitely recommend to Chapter Chatter Pub!

A heart-touching story.Though this was mystery novel and there would be many other factors that make this book wonderful; what I loved most was how beautifully a mother's love is depicted throughout the course of the story.
Thoroughly enjoyed the story.

The story arc caught my eye - a mother searching for her 16 year old daughter even after 2 years of her running away from home.

Kate volunteered at the Message in a Bottle helpline center which passed on the message of the runaway to their parents, no questions asked. It was a safe place till she got a call from a girl whose voice sounded just like Sophie's. In fact, Kate was the only one who knew it was Sophie. Then began a mother's real journey to get her daughter back home, and nobody could stand in her way..

A fantastic book by author Emma Rowley, it kept me hooked through the morning. I just couldn't stop reading it. I needed to know if the mother would ever find her daughter and if she was alive or dead. I craved so desperately to know what had happened to her. I was even tempted to read the ending when the suspense got the better of me. But I resisted. I think I am crazy about the missing child trope, it never gets old with me.

The author has captured a mother's desperation beautifully in this book. She was every mother's nightmare. Kate was shown as a broken mother who couldn't seem to function even after 2 years. She required pills to sleep through the night. Every moment of the waking hour was spent sending requests for information about her daughter online. Everyone gave up, but she didn't. Her need to get her daughter home was greater than her need to breathe. The cops too didn't follow up on the clues given by Kate.

The story followed the twists, slow beginning and certain rushed parts did niggle me, but they were just minor detours in an overall thrilling story.

I was thoroughly hooked into the book to the extent I went for a walk with my kindle, it simply showed my love for it. But it was actually the book's fault, it didn't let go of me. I loved the book, it loved me back. It was delightfully mutual.

A mystery/thriller set in the UK follows a mother's journey to find her teenage daughter who appears to have run away. Well-written and engaging, it's a short entertaining read. Similar to Room.

Kate's daughter, Sophie, went missing a few years ago and ever since Kate has been working at a missing persons hotline. One day she gets a call from a young female who she is sure is Sophie. She then starts her own investigation to try and track down her missing daughter.

Part one of the book was a little slow for me. It was a bit hard to stick with it, but part two really started to pull me in once it was told from the differing points of view. I love books that are told from different points of view like that. I was able to guess the surprise twist pretty early on, but I still enjoyed the book a fair amount.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this early copy.

The start dragged a bit but it still was solid thriller. I was surprised by the twist at the end.

A spellbinding story about the disappearance of a young teenager Sophie. The story is told by the mother who obviously has a hard time letting go after her daughter disappears one day leaving behind a letter saying that she needs to be on her own for a while.
The book starts two years later when mom Kate receives a phone call at the help line where she volunteers passing on messages from runaways to their family. After hearing her daughter’s voice she starts pushing for answers from the police and help from her family and friends who have pretty much abandoned her; even her husband who is already moved out and in with someone new. As Kate perseveres strange things begin to happen around her.
The book is well written and fast paced and keeps your interest throughout. The ending didn’t come as a total surprise to me but that didn’t detract from my opinion about the book whatsoever.
I will definitely recommend this book and happily give it five stars. The only bad thing I can say is that I hated it to finish; I had such a great time reading!
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

A first buy for collections where thrillers and domestic suspense are popular. Also has crossover appeal for high school collections where crime fiction and podcasts are popular.

Kate works as a volunteer at a hotline for runaway teens to reach out to loved ones with messages. One night while working alone answering calls she receives a staticky call from a girl named Sophie letting her parents know she's fine. Sophie just happens to be Kate's daughter, & Sophie's call leads Kate to believe that maybe Sophie isn't okay after all. And what are the chances that another girl about Sophie's age went missing years ago from just next door to their home.

This story is told in 3 parts. The first part was rather slow moving But did leave me wondering if Sophie wasn't safe or if Kate was just unravelling. Once I reached part 2 I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. We start getting Sophie's point of view. We also collect details on another girl that went missing from just next door to Kate & Sophie's home.
This story was exactly how I like my thrillers, like a jigsaw puzzle. I was left trying to put all the pieces together wondering if I was missing pieces. And the way the author tells the story adding in the missed pieces was brilliant. Just when you thought all pieces were there & you knew what was going on a new piece was added throwing me for a loop.
Where the Missing Go is a fantastic mystery/thriller. Had I been drawn in sooner then part 2 this would've hands down been a 5 star read for me.

I love you, So.
I love you, Mo.

Where the Missing Go was a pleasantly surprising debut novel from Emma Rowley. The chapters were short and face-paced, making for a very quick read. Told primarily from Kate's (the mother's) perspective, there are also a few chapters throughout the second half of the story told from Sophie's (her daughter's).

I probably would have given this novel an extra star had I not figured out the antagonist very early on. I know I say that a lot, and believe me, it bums me out as much as you, fellow reader. There are a few other minor plot twists scattered throughout, but if you're expecting to get a "Holy crap, what did I just read?" type of ending...this isn't the book for you. It's fairly predictable. Nevertheless, I'd definitely give this one a chance if you're looking for a fun, quick, easy read.

3.5 stars

I just loved this book, mystery suspense a mother doing everything to not give up on finding her daughter.

They say a mother always knows best and since the day that Kate's daughter, Sophie, ran away Kate had always thought it didn't quite seem right. The police said she left a note so the case wasn't really investigated as anything other then a runaway teen. Then strange things started happening, a post card here and there would turn up telling Sophies parents she was ok and not ready to come home yet.  The letters seemed a little off to Kate but she couldn't quite place how.  Then one night when she was working at the Message in a bottle helpline a call came in saying this would be the last you hear from me but i'm ok. Kate knows it was sophie the way a mother would,  but the police don't believe her they think she's making it up.  Then sophies old notebook show ups and nothing quite adds up. Kate knows something is different but can she figure it out to find her daughter?
This book sure took me on a wild ride i didn't want to believe that kate didn't have it all together but everyone seemed to think she needed help.  Then when I finally thought i knew what happened it turned out to be someone else.  This was a great book that I just devoured I didn't want to put it down once i started.  I definitely would give 4.5 🌟 to and suggest if you like a good thriller to give it a read.
