Just because you live in a big house, it doesn't mean you don't have your fair share of problems. The book introduces the reader to two different woman, each have their own life stories, each have their own problems. But soon nothing is as it seems and the reader is gripped until the very end. Recommended.

Vanessa was adopted by a wealthy couple who were unable to have a child of their own. When Vanessa was a bit older, her adopted mother learned that she was pregnant and was very happy. Vanessa's grandmother, who lived in the same mansion, was a bitter, nasty woman who disliked her son, his wife and Vanessa. Vanessa's mother dies unexpectedly and the story continues with various twists and turns which are engrossing, intriguing and unexpected, as well as very well written.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author Patricia Dixon, and the publisher Bloodhound Books, for granting me an ARC to enjoy and I really did enjoy this book. It grabbed me from the first page and I found it to be a very satisfying read. Highly recommend.

Woah! Where do I start with this book? I listened to most of this book, but when it got to 40 minutes left I was too impatient and picked the book up in the evening to finish it as I had to know how everything would play out in this dark, twisty gothic novel.

With a story about two different women, I really could not figure out how they would end up at the elusive Tenley House. So many secrets and heartaches before they eventually reach the house. With a dark eerie beginning to suck you in, someone on their deathbed surrounded by dark veiled “demons” makes you wonder where the hell you are going on this adventure. I blitzed the audiobook when I was at work, once I was in the flow of Colette Redgrave reading it was a spellbinding book. A tale of heartache, love, loss, betrayal and most of power.

Death’s Dark Veil is told from multiple points of view and when they all collide it’s electric. You have Georgie, my favourite, a larger than life gal, disowned by her family for bringing shame on to them, becoming a socialite in London and meeting Kenneth. Kenneth has his own secrets, ones that only Georgie know, but when someone else finds out there are grave consequences. You have Ivy, a shy, retiring girl, who I originally warmed too as she was put through hell by her family who, also, in turn, disown her. She has the last laugh but she needs to get away and start afresh. Vanessa, Kenneth’s child, a child who has lost not only her maternal mum but also her adoptive mum and just needs that love and support. Sandy, the new “childminder” for Vanessa. Keeping everyone at arms lengths with her secrets.

This spans decades as we see Vanessa grow from a bubba to a 21-year-old woman knowing what she wants. However, how we were to get to the end was a mystery to me. But when we got to THAT ending, wow! One element is ambiguous, I wanted to know more but I am glad that I am left with an ending to make my own mind up as I know how I want it to end and I did not want it to end! The other part made me cry and I was happy.

With a story, mainly being held court in Tenley House, it began to take a life on its own. Breading the darkness within its walls, amplifying the tension, increasing the unease you feel as something is not quite right. Dixon knows how to draw you in, the chapters are snappy and with the different points of view, they keep you on your toes as you never know what is going to happen next. Plus with the reminder that there is a demon in the house, well this just makes you question everything. Is there a demon? Who is the demon? One thing for sure, it is pure evil and a menace of the chilling kind. The actions which are carried out and the way in which they are carried with no remorse just terrifies me.

As briefly mentioned, Colette does a fab job at narrating. She changes her voice slightly for the different characters and for certain characters they got under my skin. She drove them well and she had me hooked throughout.

Every scene, chapter all add up to a bigger jigsaw puzzle that needs completing. I did not find myself bored at any point in the book, I just needed to know what was going on at the crazy house (Crazy town is just for you Mandy), I mean would anyone make it out with their souls in tack? It is a page-turner, or an audio binger, sucking you in, you watch everyone grow, the house grow and the demon grow. This is not a book I wanted to put down at all.

5 stars! A very intense read, which Dixon seems to be very good at delivering. I got excited to see another book by Patricia Dixon, because she has a way of writing thrillers in a manner that is very heart wrenching, disturbing, and absolutely chilling to read; which I absolutely love! She’s a darker themed author, so if you love those dark, disturbing, chills up your spine and your mind completely twisted definitely grab a copy and give It a read! One I must highly recommend to my fellow thriller lovers, especially those who feel that the darker the better!
Will use In a challenge and recommend to those in Chapter Chatter Pub!

Death's Dark Veil is a incredible psychological thriller. My favorite of the year so far. A real late turner and a must read.

This book was intense. What happens when two women find themselves on an unforeseen path and it just might take them to the same place? This was a real mystery full of lies, evil, and one surprise after the next. What secrets connect Georgie and Ivy, will it ever be discovered? is there a secret or is it fate playing its hand? Thank you NetGalley.

A super psychological thriller about deceit, manipulation and jealousy. Georgie and Ivy (Sandy) are the main characters: Georgie is the adopted mother of Vanessa: Sandy's biological daughter. Georgie loves the high life and marries Kenneth, They adopt Vanessa, yet continue their quirky lifestyle. To have Vanessa on her "side" , Georgie gives in to anything Vanessa wants. Let's not forget the evil mother of Kenneth who is smarter than we give her credit for...

In comes Sandy to work as a nanny to Vanessa and a cleaner for Georgie and Kenneth. Of course, no one knows that Sandy is Vanessa's mother...

That is when things heat up!

A definite CAN'T MISS !

Many thanks to Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for a wonderful read

he book opens from the perspective of somebody who is on the verge of dying, haunted by three demons.  Two are known, one is not.  Is the demon real or a figment of an old, dying lady's imagination wracked with grief and guilt?

Through the perspectives of many characters we are told varying stories which all entwine and bring this novel to a climatic, unpredictable and chilling end.

Told from a multiple perspectives, we learn about Georgie, Ivy, Kenneth, Vanessa, Sandy and Phyllis across several decades.  Each with an individual story, leading them to the clutches of the miserable Tenley House and all the deception and evil lurking in every corner.  Each character has something to hide, something to regret and each character is capable of malice in their own way.  Each character likable, but also imperfect and suspicious.

Rich language gives depth to each character and the settings in this book.  Nothing is just given lip service and the detail and description draws you completely into this story.  Each chapter is like a little piece of the puzzle that slowly fits with another until the picture becomes clearer - but until the very end there's always missing pieces that prevent you from seeing the whole story.

Highly intriguing and unpredictable - I highly recommend this book for fans of slow burner mysteries with a hint of the supernatural.

This is so not my usual genre WOW what a lovely surprise. A tale of loss and loss oh and not forgetting REVENGE. The name of the evil person or the demon was not revealed until the end of this fascinating and intriguing read. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting, keeping me up late into the night. Lies, plots and so many secrets and as for the ending WHAM definitely not what I was expecting. I am so pleased I was expecting given the opportunity to read this little gem. So highly recommended and an easy five stars.
I would like to thank the author, Bloodhound Books and Netgalley for the advanced copy in return for giving an honest review.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

This one was a bit all over the place which distracted from the horror and susiebcr. Could’ve used some solid editing. 2.5 rounded up
