I was expecting something more.. Just wasn't for me. My library is likely to purchase this tile if a patron requests it.

I've been on an Erotica kick recently and was delighted to find this book while poking around on NetGalley. The author is new to me, but the premise sounded intriguing. The idea of a woman with a troubled past finding love and romance right when she needed it most is appealing. However, I should've checked out the reviews more before I requested it. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. And, honestly, it wasn't for me. At all.

First off, this isn't Erotica. It's straight up Romantic Suspense. For the first 60% of the book, the only sexual encounter is a violent rape perpetrated on and off the page against the heroine. She doesn't even kiss the hero during that time (understandably, she has some issues). Once they do become intimate, we spend the H/H spend too much time with what's going on in their heads and trying not to trigger her, that it isn't hot or sexy or anything except rather painful and awkward to read. Ugh. No thank you.

Speaking of being in the H/H heads, we also spend quite a bit of time in the villain's head, as well. All of that is well and good since, as a reader, we really get head over the head again and again with what each of them is thinking and feeling. HOWEVER, this is a classic issue of telling, not showing, and actually signals both lazy writing and the need for better editing. I found myself skimming because I already understood and didn't care to learn more about what each of them was going through. Because, again, I'd been thinking this was Erotica, and it seriously isn't.

As for the plot itself, abuse/trigger issues aside, I had a few issues. Mostly with the performance of Tate's security team. But, also, the second time they were having sex and he was all "who do you belong to" RIGHT AFTER he'd been trying to get her to own/claim her own body, then he demands she hand over the possession to him. She's been branded, dude. Bad move. How did THAT not trigger her? No, no, no. Poor power play for both of them. It made me nauseated on Alex's behalf. Also, hurricane season ends in November, not December, and peaks in mid-October. Oh, and why did Tate's wife commit suicide (did I skim the answer there, or was none given?).

On the upside, the Goodreads description has a trigger warning. But, please. Please. People of the internet, take it seriously. This book is in NO WAY light and fluffy. It isn't easy or fast read. If you have ever had a hint of domestic violence, stalking, or felt threatened in your own home....SKIP THIS BOOK.

Inescapable by C.J. Fallowfield is the story of Tate Castle and 'Alex Bishop'.
'Alex' in a earlier time in her life met Richard King who she thought was going to be her prince but instead became her jailer and abuser. Alex did get away attempting to start over with a new life and she then meets reclusive Tate. Tate to has a sad past that has turned him into himself but there is a connection and some sparks between the two that set them on their path. But the past doesn't stay there for long so this does have some drama in their story.
This does have trigger scene so for those who are sensitive to that may not want to get this book.

Alex & Tate are both running from the own demons and I think that is why I was rooting for them. While reading this book I felt like I was mindful of my surroundings. Alex was married to a controlling jerk who made so many promises but he broke them all. Alex was finally able to make a break for it but she was always worried her past would catch up to you. Tate Castle is smitten from the first time he meets Alex. Alex has her walls build up so high but Tate is trying to break them down. Will these two be ever to put their past behind them and move on? This book will leave you in tears, great ending.

**I received a copy of Inescapable from Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions expressed below are mine alone and not solicited in any way.**

Inescapable by C. J. Fallowfield is a heart breaking wild ride from start to finish. This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm anxious to read some of her others. You'll definitely either cry with Alex Bishop or want to do terrible harm to Richard King her ex-husband for his physical and emotional abuse that he does to her. But when she escapes and is able to reinvent herself as Alex Bishop, her paintings will be how she'll heal her mind body and soul and also will be able to find true love and a family with Tate Castle and his daughter Rosie. You'll fall in love with Alex's friends Sharon/Shaz, Tom, Janice and of course Tate's security head Alves.

Tate Castle finds Alex Bishop during one of her art gallery shows but it will be his daughter Rosie and Bear who'll find her first. Tate has emotional scaring of his own as his wife committed suicide and he's vowed never to let his heart be broken again but will Alex find a way into his heart when he offers her a dream painting contract on his island in the British Virgin Islands? Will he do anything to protect her when they are forced to return to London after a hurricane? Can Alex and Tate will find healing and love with each other and defeat the monster haunting Alex?

Follow Isabelle through her journey from a orphaned daughter to her first love which she barely lives through and a rebirth of herself through art to a healing of body and soul with Tate Castle in Pepper Island, British Virgin Islands. Prepare for an emotional journey though as this book is well deserved 5 stars and many more.

Wow...the ending for the villain in this story is just too kind. Too kind.

I must say that some part of the story is not easy to read. So much so that I skimmed through them because it genuinely made me feel so uneasy.

I like Tate. A lot. I wish there would be more of him. I find his character a bit of a mystery and I love myself a mystery man. I like the length that he went to for Alex, but goodness me, his security team aren’t very thorough, are they?

I also the mixed of tones that I got from the story. It made me scared and nervous, but occasionally I would find myself laughing silly over some funny lines.

Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the online copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my first book by C J Fallowfield and it certainly won't be my last. This storyline was very well done and you can tell these words mean an awful lot to the writer.

Inescapable was definitely a five stars read for me.
It took me on an emotional roller coaster and it was really difficult to go back to the real world when I turned the last page and closed the book.

Life wasn't lenient with our heroine,I wanted to help her during her journey but I didn't need to,because our anguished hero supported her, letting her grow confident and strong into her body and her mind.

I can't recommend this (and other C.J. Fallowfield's) book enough, brace yourself for this ride.

I loved this book from the very beginning. The poor abuse Izzie/Alex had to endure with Richard was gut wrenching, but she found the strength to fight back. I love that she met Castle and that he took such good care of her. This book kept me on my toes and had my interest the entire read. I can't wait to read another one of CJ Fallowfield's books.

Lets start off by saying that this was definitely a tough read for me. I felt like it dragged on forever. I liked the plot and what the author tried to represent in this book. I think that for the most part she hit it right on the money.
Some of the descriptions and scenes were very powerful and a little gruesome. Might be a trigger for some people. Just a fair warning.

I liked that the heroine never gave up no matter the circumstances or the obstacles that were put in her way. Hurtful as they might have been she always stuck it out and tried her best. I definitely admire that in female characters. I truly believe that we can all move past our experiences and not let them rule our lives or prevent from reaching our potential. We are more than just our experiences.

As I touched on it, it was a little slow for me and I skimmed some parts of this book.

Thank you for Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this.

What a frustrating read. There were parts I liked and parts I really didn’t. So I guess it did give me that rollercoaster ride of emotional chaos the blurb hinted at, just not in the manner that I thought.

First off, this is not a safe read. It deals with rape, violent physical abuse and horrible mental abuse. The author doesn’t drag this out but the bits and pieces she does share about the heroine’s past is gruesome and she doesn’t skimp on the details so it does get graphic and can be a trigger for some.

That being said, the heroine is someone you definitely want to root for. She is a survivor and after everything she has been through you just want to see her find her happily ever after. The first half of the book was a bit hard to swallow but I will say that the ending was perfect. It was the extra sugary sweet ending you need after reading a book full of more downs than ups.

Although the writing was intense and obviously it kept me hooked until the end, the characters sometimes were hard to relate to or even like. I’m happy they finally were able to move on together and get their happy ending but they weren’t a couple I fell in love with or see myself re-reading again. A good story but the romance was not my jam.

Firstly let me start by saying I really enjoyed this book.

In the interests of total honesty I did struggle early on. Now you could argue that the beginning is just the means to the end. It introduces the characters and gets the story where it needs to be.
And that’s true but the first meeting between Izzie and Richard had me cringing and it just didn’t sit right with me. But I am a picky, hard to please reader so it’s probably just me.

The rest of the book is fabulous. Although I would have preferred a little more at the end. Like I said picky reader.

Once I’d settled in I throughly enjoyed it.

Lizzie/Alex deserves to be happy and she gets her chance with rich, handsome and simply amazing Tate Castle. With everything Alex has been through it takes awhile for her to trust again but Tate is so patient and adorable.

Tom and Janice are the kooky assistants. They add humour and a touch of light craziness to balance out heavier side.

‘He could swoop in and acquire me any day,’ Janice nodded.
‘I’d even consider sharing him with you,’ Tom added, throwing her a high five. ‘At the same time, and you know how much the thought of pussy traumatises me, let alone the possibility of seeing it. Pussy roadkill would be a more apt description of that part of a woman’s anatomy.’
‘Mine’s not roadkill, thank you very much. I’ve been told it’s very pretty.’
‘Who by? Stevie Wonder?’
