Rebuilding Alden, Worthy Battle, Book 1 by JR Thompson
His grandmother is taking care of him and he doesn't respect her and she fears at time she won't end up in the hospital as his temper gets the best of him...
Alden is a bully and pushes his way around the skate park...smokes at the age of 13-from others packs...
Phillip, a parole officer for Alden as he's abused his grandmother...
Alden goes home to put graffiti on living room walls. He apologizes to his grandmother after he's called his aunt to tell her the grandmother is losing it, painting the walls.
Love how Phillip handles the various teens that are sent to him, firm but caring.
Never heard of the technique but it sounds promising and especially how Phillip wants to mentor him.
Love how it all comes together. About the author is also included at the end. More books highlighted at the end.
Wouldn't mind reading the next in the series.
Received this review copy from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

Rebuilding Alden is the story of an angry, violent 13 year old boy who assaults his grandmother and is assigned to Phillip Bones, a deeply religious, caring probation officer. Phillip starts to realize that the angry and out of control young children who report to him under probation need more intervention than his job permits. When Alden is suspended from school for fighting, Phillip gets his grandmother's permission to take him out camping, and sets him to work repairing an old property. Phillip becomes an important presence in Alden's life, and slowly helps Alden control his anger and address his abandonment issues.
At one point, Alden uses Phillip's cell phone to prank Phillip's girlfriend, Cassie, causing them to break up. Cassie is also a probation officer and disapproves of Phillip's extra-curricular mentoring of these troubled teens. Phillip's devotion to his new calling to help troubled teens causes him personal grief, but Phillip perseveres. Throughout this story, Phillip, who is very religious, often prays or tells biblical stories. This story is aimed at the pre-teen and early teen age group. I give this account of a troubled youth being given the extra attention he needed to become a better person a 3.7 out of 5 rating.
In his Author's Note page, JR Thompson, reveals that he mentors troubled teens. This is book one in the Worthy Battle series. Redirecting Billy will be the second book in the series.
