This novel is an example of why authors do best when they write about what they know. When Indridason gives Operation Napoleon atmosphere by writing about Iceland, the story comes to life. When he writes about the American military or embassy, the story is less convincing. Coupled with wooden characters and stilted dialog (perhaps the fault of the translation?), this thriller is less than thrilling.
