Amelia so has my sympathy, when she is in high school she finds out her parents secret, one they planned to never tell her, but then when a life is on the line and they have to tell her the truth, she is not even who she thinks she is, her world, her past , her future, every thing is changed, she will never be the same girl, never even fit in her family with ease ever again.
Cal, Amelia’s high school boy friend, has his world up ended when he loses his sister and is now responsible for raising his nephew just when Amelia is back in town and back in his arms.
Plenty of angst, some heat and plenty of problems to overcome, but oh how I’m pulling for this second chance romance for this couple, can they reach a forever happiness???

Amelia and Cal's story, set in Last Stand, Texas. If you haven't read any other in the series you will be fine, although it does help. As with the others, the car crash during the town's matriarch birthday party sets the background for how it affects the different characters. For this one, Cal is the oldest brother of Rose, who was killed in the crash along with her boyfriend. Amelia is back in town, and they are high school sweethearts, and the sparks are still there, especially through the grief. A good story overall, and one that was hard to put down. The only issue I had was her issue of having a different dad than the one she thought, and her anger towards her mom and her reluctance to take a chance on a romance. Minor, but didn't see why she was so stuck. Anyway, would still highly recommend this story, author and series. Fun to see different takes by different authors for the series.

I love a good romance book and Katherine Garbera delivered. The plot flowed nicely and I would love to check out more from this author!

This book is the kind that you better have a box of close by when you read it. It is a second chance at romance story involving two high school sweethearts, Amelia and Cal, who both return to their hometown for different reasons. Amelia is back to help take care of her sick mother and Cal is back after his sister is killed in an accident. He is needed to raise his sister’s son. When Amelia and Cal meet again, they form a friendship and there to support each other. Eventually fall in love again. But, that doesn’t mean everything will be easy for them. There are a lot of issues they need to work through before they find their happily ever after.

Some of this book was hard to read because of the emotions involved. I couldn’t help but tear up reading those parts. The characters and their struggles felt so real. This is a must read book if you like second chance romances and a good family drama. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

Lots of emotion and drama throughout this book as you keep hoping that Amelia will get her head on straight and stay in Last Stand with Cal. At times, it felt like Amelia was still thinking like the sixteen year old that she was when she left.

One event in the book was quite heart breaking and problems caused from this look like they are not resolved and hope that it will be resolved in the next book. I liked that Cal realized some of the ways he dealt with his siblings was wrong and even came to realized that JT had changed for the better.

Nice HEA and glad that Amelia finally came to her senses and realized that she loved Cal. Will Finn or Brayden be the one to find love in book 2?

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Loved the story of Amelia and Cal. I especially enjoy a second Chance Romance with hidden secrets. Amelia left Last Stand when she was sill in high school. She had learned her father wasn’t her biological father and it gutted her. She learned it because her biological father had a new son who needed her bone marrow. Then her biological father wanted nothing to do with hr afterwards. She had a boyfriend in high school , Cal who she had sex with the night before she left. She planned it so her first time was with someone she cared about. Cal was dvistated hen she left and never knew why she left. She went to NYC for a modeling career and didn’t return until her dad called and her mom was ill. She avoided the one on one with her mom to set things right. She went to a birthday party for an elderly resident of the town. While there with all the townfolks, they heard a crash. It ended up being fatal, killing Cal’s Only sister, 19 year old Rose and her boyfriend TJ. Their death left their son Delaney as an orphan. Cal struggles with his new family situation and Amelia struggles to accept the explanation her mom and dad gave her about her as a member of the family. Amelia also is trying to accept her love for Cal and trying to work on having a relationship together. I enjoyed the plot, the family dynamics and the backstory provided by Katherine Garbera. A 5 star book.

Love Katherine Garbera’s stories. This book was very emotional, it had me crying a lot. Secrets, lies, loss & second chances make this book a fantastic read. Katherine’s characters are all strong & sexy. History has a way of repeating itself & a curse on a family brings more grief than one should have to deal with. A secret from the past has kept one family separated & young love from having the chance for more. Definitely recommend.

Amelia was 16 years old when she found out that she have been lied to for her whole life, she spent that night with Cal and then she run. She left for few years, now she is back. Can she get the closure to her past and have a future with Cal?
Loved this book. Story is wonderful. Great characters.

I loved this book! I had a hard time putting it down. The one thing I liked about this book it wasn't your average romance there was loss and real feelings, I felt like I was there feeling the emotions. I recommend this book and give it a 5 start rating.

I thought this was a sweet book with a great story line. The character development was amazing. I can't wait to read more in the series.

Her Texas Ex is the first story in The Dangerous Delaneys, and also my first read by Katherine Garbera. A deeply emotional story, filled with drama, misconceptions and heartbreak; this was always going to pull at the heartstrings and leave the reader stripped raw. But for all the depth of this book, there were moments when I felt that Amelia needed to let go of the past and realise she that wasn’t sixteen anymore, and finally act her age. Cal on the other hand was wonderful; he had some moments of clarity regarding his interactions with his family, and also realised that allowing second chances isn’t a weakness. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and wait excitedly for the next in this series.

I love books by Katherine Garbera. Her writing and world-building evokes another era (the good Harlequin classics you'd swipe from your mom's shelf that got you hooked on reading romance), yet provides enough fresh updates to make you smile (modern references like Dementors). It's elegant writing.

I was really surprised by the turn of events in this story. After doing a great job painting 2 characters without them even making a physical appearance yet on the page, she started things off with a bang - literally. She did a great job introducing characters with enough depth that you become curious about their story lines off the page (what's gonna happen to the other Delaney brothers, Lancey, the real Corbyn sisters, and other friends mentioned). She established Whiskey River, another town in the mighty world of Tule Publishing, was next door and brought in some character co-mingling. It makes me want to drive through Hill Country and see if I can find the inspiration for these towns.

I also liked Cal and Amelia's no-B.S. conversation approach. There's very little playing and games at times. Kind of refreshing that the characters say it as it is and progress the story much quicker. Really refreshing.

Cal just wants more for his woman, "...she sat there for a minute staring down at him and he shook his head. “Just once I’d like to make love to you in a bed.” I liked this book, I liked Cal.

The Setting and the overall plot sounded very interesting (and totally like something I'd love to read).
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the author's writing, at all.
This book read like a recipe or a guide. Every single thought, action, wish was clearly spelled out. Everything was happening so fast the characters (and myself) never had the chance to ponder or read between the lines. I like angst too and this book had zero.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this book in advance though.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The following is my unbiased opinion of this book.

I have read other books by this author and I am trying to figure out which one I read previously that touched on Amelia’s ordeal with learning about her biological father and having to be tested to see if she could help her half-brother.

I liked this story and it was a pretty quick read overall. It definitely took some turns that I was not expecting. It was not your typical romance story, there was some definite hints of tragedy.

I enjoy the Whiskey River Series and anything Ms Garbera writes about Marietta, Montana.

Her Texas Ex is the latest in the series set in Last Stand, Texas and shares some overlap with the series based in Whiskey River, Texas. This story focuses on former high school sweethearts Cal and Amelia. Amelia left home prior to graduation to pursue a modeling career; however, she didn’t tell anyone goodbye, not even Cal. Cal returns to his hometown after retiring from the NFL, and Amelia returns home to support her family during her mother’s illness. Cal and Amelia run into each other and start to become friends again, supporting each other through family crises. Their old attraction is still there, and they act on it. However, Cal is afraid that Amelia will do what she always does - run, and for a while it looks like they won’t get together. They do work things out; however, the swift way in which that happens at the end of the story feels rather forced. That is my only complaint about a rather sweet story.

A second chance romance for Amelia and Cal. Now both back in their hometown after pursuing lives away from home. Can needs support and stability after becoming guardian for his young nephew, and knows Amelia will take off if things get difficult again. Have they changed enough to have a relationship now they are both older?

Enjoying these visits to Last Stand Texas - not far from the familiar Whiskey River. Amelia is backbin Last Stand as her mother battles a mysterious illness. Cal has turned his outlaw ancestry to a successful tequila brand following the end of his pro football career. He had been her first but she ran away the next day. As tragedy brings them together, their secrets, regrets, fears and love are revealed.
