Aspen Barlow moved to Lawless during her high school years, and although she and Case were not friends per say, he was the only one who took the time to show Aspen any kindness. Years later and Case has nothing but distain for her due to the professional role she played which ultimately led to his ex wife gaining sole custody of his son.

From the outset their was intrigue into what would motivate Aspen to do such a thing. She instantly comes across as sweet and sincere, but we learn this first impression is not wrong once the story begins to take shape.

The loneliness she felt in her teens still plagues her in her adulthood. She’s recently divorced and has no family roots in Loveless, but her work as a lawyer and the people she helps keep her rooted there. Someone else however has other ideas.

The injection of drama and suspense are heightened when attempts are made on Aspen’s life. With no motive or leads, as Sheriff of Lawless, Case makes the decision to put Aspen under his direct protection.

What I enjoy the most about love/hate relationships is the thin line that separates them, and the passion that erupts once the line has been crossed. The forced proximity made for great tension building but I wasn’t necessarily bowled over by it.

This was my first experience reading Jay Crownover and I immediately warm to her writing and storytelling. Justified was an enjoyable read, and although I was not overly keen on the dramatics towards the end, Loveless and it’s characters have guaranteed a return visitor in me.

C'est un plaisir de retourner à Loveless pour cette fois ci se focaliser sur Case Lawton, le frère de Crew ( personnage que nous avions découvert dans Unbroken) . Jay Crownover va nous offrir une saga familiale comme elle sait si bien le faire et je me suis régalée en apprenant à découvrir Case et sa relation particulière avec Aspen.



Case Lawton est donc un père de famille mais surtout le shérif de cette petite ville du Texas où tout se voit et tout se sait. Il essaie de redorer la réputation du poste de shérif après les ravages de son père Conrad qui se faisait acheter son silence et qui ne portait pas secours à ceux qui en avaient besoin . J'ai adoré ce personnage car il est droit dans ses bottes de cow boy et il met tout en oeuvre pour assurer la sécurité de sa ville. Il n'a pas peur de se salir les mains pour arrêter les criminels et pour mettre en prison ceux qui le méritent. Son plus grand regret a été d'épouser Becca avec qui il a dû se battre pour obtenir la garde de son fils Hayes mais malheureusement ils ont été séparés pendant de nombreuses années. Il avait 14 ans quand Becca a eu sa garde mais à présent , il est aux côtés de son père et leur relation est intact . J'ai adoré ce gamin qui est génial et très mature pour son âge. Il a le charme des Lawson et il fera à coup sûr des ravages. Il est la gentillesse même et n'a pas cru un seul instant les délires de sa mère.



S'ils ont été séparés c'est à cause ( ou grâce) à l'avocate de Becca qui n'est autre que Aspen , une ancienne connaissance de Case. Quand ils étaient au lycée, il a su la défendre contre les méchancetés proférées à son égard et la préserver un certain temps. Il était la star de football du lycée mais ses rêves ont été brisés à bien des égard. Autant donc vous dire que la tension est importante et que la rancoeur est aussi très présente. Pourtant il saura se montrer professionnel quand il devra résoudra un acte criminel. Qui peut bien en vouloir à cette avocate et qui va tout mettre en oeuvre pour la réduire à néant? Peu à peu la carapace de cet homme va se fissurer et laisser apparaître ses failles mais aussi ses forces. C'est un homme sur qui on peut compter et qui pourrait s'ouvrir aux autres mais surtout à notre héroïne



Aspen Barrow est également une jeune femme que j'ai adoré. Elle va susciter en nous des émotions contradictoires. Quand nous découvrons ce qu'elle a vécu au lycée , on ne peut qu'avoir un pincement au coeur la concernant car elle a toujours été mise de côté et ce sentiment d'être invisible a laissé des traces. Elle a été blessée par Becca mais elle ne pourra refuser de ne pas être son avocate. Elle va découvrir que cette femme est toujours aussi mesquine et elle va prendre une décision qui changera à jamais sa relation avec Case. Elle pensait enfin être heureuse aux côtés de David mais on va se rendre compte qu'il ne saura pas la rendre heureuse. Je n'ai d'ailleurs pas apprécié cet homme qui ne m'a pas inspiré confiance. Il ne veut pas divorcer et on va donc chercher pourquoi. Il est comme un chewing gum attaché à la semelle d'Aspen et elle n'aspire qu'à le sortir de sa vie. Elle va souffrir pendant ce tome car le sort s'acharne sur elle et elle va devoir apprendre à penser à elle avant de penser à ses clients. On se demande qui lui en veut à ce point et on ne sera pas au bout de nos surprises.



Elle a eu un coup de foudre pour Case étant plus jeune mais elle n'a pas pu empêcher la haine de s'installer entre eux. Elle l'a fait pour de bonnes raisons et elle va donc devoir accepter le statu quo qui va s'opérer entre elle en attendant de découvrir qui en a après sa vie. Quand elle est en présence de Case, on sent qu'elle a toujours ce lien particulier avec lui mais ce dernier ne semble pas conscient des sacrifices qu'elle a fait pour le préserver. La tension va de nouveau s'embraser entre eux mais la nature de cette tension sera différente. On espère donc qu'ils pourrons communiquer en toute sincérité et laisser ce passé derrière eux.



Bref, j'ai adoré le 1er tome de cette saga et j'ai adoré retrouver les divers références à d'anciennes sagas de Jay Crownover. Les Lawtons n'ont pas fini de nous faire passer de bons moments et Justified nous offre une histoire forte en émotions , en révélations et en intensité. Si vous lisez en VO, c'est la nouvelle saga de Jay Crownover à ne pas manquer.

I have enjoyed every book I read by Ms. Crownover, and this was no exception. Case and Aspen go way back to high school when she was the new student and he was the only one who tried to be nice to her and accept her. Years later, when she came back to town as a lawyer, she was integral to the worst day of his life-losing custody of his son. Because of that, they now have a hate-hate relationship. At least that is what they both want the other to think.
When her life implodes and her life consistently is threatened, he takes her to the only place she can be safe. His house. No one will think to look for her there. After all, they hate each other. Once she is there, he starts realizing that maybe his hate isn't hate after all and he doesn't know what to do with that. She has always had a crush on him, so she tries to lock her feelings down.
The twists, turns, and bumps they have to overcome are many, but they can be stronger if they come out the other side. The person who is behind all fo the bad things coming her way is spiteful, calculating, and self-important, and also the last person Aspen thought would go this far.
When Case's son becomes a target and he has to choose between his son and Aspen, is there any way he can save both of them? Will they admit their true feelings before it is too late? I can't wait to read the rest of this series. There are things Case doesn't know and reasons why she did what she did during the custody battle. When Case finds out, what will his reaction be? I love how fiercely protective Case is of his family, but his obsession with righting the wrong-doings of his corrupt father, make him blind to some truths. When the one person he blames for the loss of custodial rights is a target in a series of threats, he must put his hateful feelings aside in order to close the case and push her back out of his life.

Jay Crownover is a new author to me but she kept showing up in my newsfeed so I wanted to know more.

This book is the first book in this series set in Loveless, TX and revolves around Case and Aspen. Case, the MMC is the town Sheriff with a major chip on his shoulder. He feels the like he has to make amends for all the really bad things his dad has done. Aspen, the FMC, is the lawyer that help Case lose custody of his son. Or is that the whole story?

Now someone is targeting Aspen, and Case has to put aside his feelings and anger to help Aspen. As the danger gets closer to Aspen, more secrets come out. Will Case and Aspen be able to put aside the past in order to look towards a future?

The secondary characters are great. Kody was the best (Case's sister), she is just a bada$$ and funny. I look forward to her story, and Crew (Case's brother), that will make for an interesting story too. The story was interesting and I didn't put the book down once I started reading because I needed to get to the end, and even though I thought I had it all figured it out.... the plot twists kept me on my toes.

This book has suspense, mystery, cowboys (in Stetson's), all the feels, betrayal, and of course a HEA. I highly recommend reading it and I will definitely read the next book.

This book has so many twists and turns that I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting. I just loved Case ... he is the protector that every woman secretly wants. And Aspen ... I loved how she was in a small package that packed a big punch. She would stand right up to Case even though he was a head taller than her. Case and Aspen hated each other ... but you know that old saying “there’s a fine line between love and hate”. At the end of this book the author sets up the next one quite nicely ... it’s about Kody Lawless, Case’s sister and his longtime friend, Hill who is a Texas Ranger. I can’t wait for that book!

I have been reading Jay Crownover's book for years, and I typically love every single one. She's an auto-buy author for me, so when the opportunity came up to be a part of the blog tour for her new release - Justified - I signed right up! I was provided an eARC for an honest review, and honestly I loved it!

Justified is the first book in a new series for Jay, and even though she's left some Easter eggs for her long-time readers, we have a new set of characters and new setting to fall in love with. Justified follows Loveless, Texas sheriff Case Lawton and attorney Aspen Barlow. These two have a long history with one another filled with disdain, but they're thrown together in a huge mystery when Aspen's life are at stake.

Aspen was the weird new girl from Chicago, trying her best to be the exact opposite of what her mom wanted her to me. The golden boy and future NFL player at school, Case, made her feel seen and welcome in a new place, and then she developed a HUGE crush. Who wouldn't? As fate would have it for the young hero, he broke his leg, his mom died after battling cancer and his girlfriend, feeling the strong desire to keep her boyfriend close to home, got pregnant. Aspen on the other hand got the heck out of these and became a successful lawyer, but found her way back to Loveless and married the richest man in town.

These two HATE each other. Aspen played a huge role in Case's divorce and the loss of custody of his son, not in a good way, and it caused a huge rift between them. Nine years later life has turned around for both of them. Case has full custody of his son and is the sheriff of Loveless, while Aspen is divorcing her husband and left their practice to begin her own. They avoid one another in a small town, but when Aspen's office is trashed Case has to put his hatred for Aspen aside and work the case.

Jay always does such a great job of expertly weaving together a suspenseful plot and deep, interesting characters and some steamy romance in a way that it's difficult to put the book down. I couldn't stop reading as Aspen's life becomes more complicated as threats bloom, and Case's feelings for Aspen begin to change when it becomes his job to protect her.

There is SO much more to this plot, from betrayal to shoot-outs, intrigue and suspense, that I can't go too much into it. It keeps you on the edge of your seat as action picks up piece by piece throughout the whole novel. Even the epilogue leaves you shocked! I found myself audibly gasping as Jay leaves a little cliffhanger to lead you into the next book.

I cannot wait for the second book! The characters in it are some of my favorite from Justified, so I'm excited for them to get their own story. The sneak peak at the end of Justified was amazing. I also enjoyed getting to see Crew and Della from the novella Unbroken!

I'm a huge sucker for cowboy romances. I've been reading them since high school when I would hide away in my bedroom reading Harlequin romances I bought at garage sales from elderly women. It was a time. Now Jay has been venturing into the cowboy romance genre and I am living for it. </p>

Justified gets a 4.5 stars from me! Jay has come through with another great story and I can't wait to see where she takes it.

Justified had everything you love about a small town. Bonus was the plethora of secondary characters which I need books from ASAP, especially Hill Gamble and a feisty someone I will not name... Also, let's not forget about a certain MC president #drama.

Suspenseful and action-packed, Justified is the perfect mix of enemies-to-lovers with a second chance feel. Beyond intriguing and completely captivating, I started and finished this novel in one day. Hands down, it's a must read!

I've been a huge fan of Jay Crownover since her Marked Men series. I will read anything by her and will probably love it. This one did not disappoint. I read the first in this series, Unbroken, and loved it. What a great introduction to the Lawton family.
Case Lawton and his siblings grew up with a deceitful father, who just happened to be the Sheriff of Loveless, Texas. Case had high hopes of leaving the small town but unfortunately, disaster came along. Years later he is handed divorce papers and goes through a nasty divorce, resulting in the loss of custody of his son. He is heartbroken and blames his ex's lawyer...Aspen Barlow.
Aspen Barlow moved to Loveless, Texas as a teen from Chicago. Her goth ways made her an outsider and was deemed "Weird Girl" immediately. After getting her law degree, she returns to Loveless and works for her father-in-law. Unfortunately, she has to take Case's ex as her client but she'll do her best to make sure the ex doesn't destroy Case's life completely.
This is an enemies to lovers romance with suspense and mystery. Years after his divorce, Case is now the Sheriff and works hard to not be like his father. Someone is out to get Aspen and Case is the only one that can keep her safe. Will he change his opinion of Aspen? Will he be able to solve the mystery of who's trying to harm her?
I loved getting to know Case after being introduced to him in a different book, as well as Unbroken. He is a hard man who wants to do right by his community. I also really liked Aspen. She ends up going through a lot and still comes out strong.
I'm looking forward to reading more about the Lawton family and those in Loveless, Texas.

Justified takes enemies to loves to a NEW level. Y'all, she was the divorce lawyer who represented his ex!!!! We met Case in the prequel novella so we know he is the sheriff of the town. We also know Lawton's father is seriously crooked. And finally, this is small town Texas: drama and danger are a given, right.

Case's disdain for Aspen is legit. He does not pull punches either. But, he is a good guy, so when there is a credible threat to her, he, as sheriff, steps in to help. So, this relationship is slow build in the sense that the trust takes time. There is sexual attraction, but Case can't just 'forget' what Aspen cost him. He is kind of an ass. I was torn between understanding his position and thinking "Dude, Aspen isn't your ex. Be mad at the ex!". And kind of like "Dude, you married your ex. Be mad at yourself".  But, being sheriff is one of Case's ways of making amends. He feels horrible for the sins of his father. He becomes super straight laced in an attempt to show the town that all Lawtons aren't bad.

Aspen is likable! You recognize she is good at what she does and that being a good lawyer means some people will hate you. She also has a crap-ton going on in her life. It was kind of exhausting just to read about it! Seriously, girl needs a break. But, she isn't a shrinking violet. She sees the mistakes in her life and deals with them. But, she also isn't afraid to get help.

Justified is a yummy blend of hate to love you, small town mystery. Crownover writes such wonderful stories. Her characters, including Case and Aspen are complex and dynamic as as their lives.

Justified is a slow burn enemie to lovers novel with action packed drama, and swoon worthy romance, and so many twists and turns that'll leave you gasping. Justified will suck you in from the start.
I'm so excited to see where Jay Crownover is going to take us next.

This was a great weekend read! I was sucked in right from the start and didn't want to put it down. I was hesitant to pick it up because I don't often read cowboy romances, but this one felt more small town romance more than anything and I just appreciated the cover for the eye candy it was ;)

Justified is an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, suspense, and single parent romance rolled into one. I loved the sparks and sexual tension between Case and Aspen and how the gruff and grumpy sheriff slowly opened his heart. Case is exactly the loyal, protective, alpha hero that I love. I wouldn't have minded a little more groveling on his part though and I did feel that Aspen forgave him very quickly. Also, her strong feelings toward him made sense considering their time together in HS, but Case's feelings seemed to go from hate to love in the blink of an eye. The suspense kept things interesting, but did feel a little over the top at times. I'm really intrigued by Case's little sister, Kody, and a certain Texas Ranger and loved the mysterious vibe. I'm hoping their story will be next! This was my first book by Jay Crownover, and I'm excited to see where this series goes.

Justified by Jay Crownover is book One in the Loveless, Texas Series. This is the story of Case Lawton and Aspen Barlow.
When Aspen first moved to Loveless, Texas she was young, the unpopular kid that was picked on, the Case would standup for her and protect her. But when they left school, she left to pursue a Law Degree and Case ended up staying tied to Loveless when several bad things happened at once. One of those was being tided to a women who snagged him with a pregnancy, but Case loves his son so there was a happy part of that too. Aspen came back to town with her law degree and married a someone else too. Case and Aspen ended up meeting again but on opposite sides of a court room where she was representing his ex-wife and he trying to get custody of his son from her. Of course Aspen won the case which set the tone for hard feelings towards her for Case. Now in their present time, Aspen is in trouble which leads her back to Case to protect and help her.
Really good second chance and enemies to lovers story.

So much action and excitement! And what a twist! I really wasn't expecting that. This story is an all in or not at all, just like these characters. Aspen and Case have an ongoing war that feels like a mine field. And at some point one of them steps on one and BOOM, we have an explosion. When avoidance and hatred is not a go to option anymore for them they realize that they have a lot in common. They both want to contribute in the making of a better town. They are cleaning house one bad guy at a time. Aspen is feisty and independent. Case is protective and loyal. A total alpha man. Both grew up with a lot of integrity and good principles even when their parents sucked. With a lot of fighting, bickering and intense chemistry they uncover and finally accept their true admiration for each other. Just like when they were young. Now it's all or nothing and there is no more time to waist. You will love every page of this book.

Wooooo, doggie. This one was 🔥. And 👀 at the same time. Loved it. Could not be happier that Justified is first in a series by Jay Crownover. I’m in!

Justified is the first full length novel in Jay Crownover's new series Loveless, Texas. It brings us an enemies to lovers suspenseful romance that stars a head strong independent woman and a handsome Texas sheriff.

I enjoyed so much about this cowboy romance that I don't know where to start. The plot line was interesting. Right off the bat our heroine, Aspen, is being targeted and it quickly escalates to the point where her life is being threatened. It was a suspenseful mystery that had a ton of action and a conclusion that I didn't see coming. Next the book had so many solid characters, who I genuinely wanted to know more about and I cared about their story outcomes. That includes our main characters Case and Aspen but also Case's sister Kody and his son Hayes. Case, besides being ridiculously good-looking, is a great father, a bit stubborn, a bit alpha, and has a kind heart. He starts off a jerk but with his circumstances its forgivable and with time, as he let his walls down, he definitely redeems himself. Aspen is a bit sassy, independent and passionate about her work. When the two of them are forced to spend more time with each other than they have since high school, the angst and sexual tension is everything!


I'm going to be honest, I enjoyed Justified drastically more than I enjoyed the prequel novella released in this series. I feel like Jay's story telling can't be confined to a novella, she needs a full length novel to allow her characters to grow and evolve and find who they are ment to be. If you have enjoyed any of Jay Crownover's previous books, whether you like cowboy romances or not, you should definitely give this book a chance. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Justified will leave you in suspense the whole time with the twist and turns that rock the small town where Case and Aspen live. In the beginning we get a little background of who Case and Aspen are but the story jumps to nine years later and so much has changed. Aspen is not the same lawyer she was in the beginning she left the high-profile divorces and now fights for the victims instead of the paycheck. Case is the new sheriff of their small town and he still holds a grudge against Aspen from when she represented his ex-wife in their divorce. Case blames Aspen for a lot of things going wrong in his life but what he doesn’t know is she was working behind the scenes to protect him and his son. All these years they have avoided one another until Aspen life is in danger and Case is the only person that can help her figure it out. So many secrets start to come out but it doesn’t stop the danger from lurking in the darkness. Case and Aspen both must face what happened in the past to see if they can have the future, they both deserve.

The suspense in the story will keep you intrigued and the romance will have you wanted to know what that feels like. Their story is one filled with heartbreak, family, and love that can reach a reader’s soul. I love the small town feeling and the supporting characters are what books are made of. Aspen and Case though together talking were some great moments but when they were alone in their head I didn’t like too much. There was more drama in their head than outside of it which I believe should have an equal balance. I love the fact that they both get a second chance at a different life but they must find way to get over the past and let it go. This is quick read and I love the story line. Jay Crowner really hit it out into the field with this one and I can’t wait to read more from the Lawton family.

What an awesome story! I love, love, loved it! The history between Case and Aspen, both good and bad, made for lots of tension that led to an undeniable push and pull between them that was amazing to watch. Watching both of them show their vulnerabilities to the other had my heart racing.

And let me talk about the suspense in here. Twists and turns abound! I was totally shocked.

I can not wait to read more about the Lawton family and the people in Loveless, Texas...not to mention going back and catching up with some of the other places we see these characters :)

Here we have the story of Case, the delegate from the small town of Loveless in Texas and an Aspen attorney who years ago was responsible for Case losing custody of her son. Both don't get along and keep a distance from the long years, but everything changes when Aspen life is at risk and she has to rely on Case's help.

I liked both. I think Case and Aspen are good characters who have a great heart and are always looking for the next one. I liked their relationship, although I found it a bit rushed when things started to mesh.

The suspense in the book made me keep creating theories and in the end I was right from the beginning so I don't think I had any twists or surprises. But even if it was predictable I still thought it added a rhythm that the story needed to keep the story intriguing and balanced with the romance of the protagonists.

This book brings a story of enemies to lovers with a touch of suspense that kept me reading until the end.and that left me wishing for Kody to win his story in the near future.

There is something about cowboys that gets me every time. I can't put a finger on it because it's the whole package, the alpha goodness, the rough and strong and earthy men. When I finished Unbroken, the novella that kicks off this series, I knew I needed to know more about those Lawton siblings.

Case was everything I hoped for. Loveless's sheriff is a little broody, trying everything he can to make people believe that he is nothing like his corrupt old man. After losing the custody battle for his son to his ex-wife because a certain counselor was better than his own he loves to antagonize said lawyer.

Aspen on the other hand has always tried to protect Case and his family without the sheriff having a clue about it. These two have a complicated history. Aspen used to have a crush on Case in high school because he was always nice to the transplant from Chicago, the girl who didn't fit in anywhere. For that alone she had a soft spot for him. Case's hatred for her hurts but while their verbal sparring sometimes gets to her she never stops caring about Case and his family.

There is a lot of suspense that kept me invested because I really wanted to know who was out to make Aspen's life hard. I gave the twist a little the stink eye because there was no indication that the perp would be who it was - the author failed to show me that this person was capable of the awful things they did because Jay Crownover only mentioned them in passing. So that twist wasn't a pleasant surprise, if you know what I mean.

However, I enjoyed this story despite the little weakness in the suspense part. Case and Aspen had great chemistry and I really liked how they got closer. Should have Aspen make Case grovel a little more? Hell yes, I love a good grovel! But in the end I loved their relationship and how solid they were.

There is a plethora of side characters I need to read about. I am really hoping to get Hill's story next and that the heroine will be who I think. There is also a very intriguing MC president who I can't wait to find out more about. And finally, Case's son Hayes, who seems to get a big dose of heartbreak in the future.

Justified is an enemies-to-lover, small town romance that turned out to be fast and satisfying. Jay Crownover is a new-to-me author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her!
