Linda Castillo has done it again! All the shiny stars for her latest release!🌟

This is book eleven of the Kate Burkholder series and I must say it reads as one of the best! The entire series takes place in Painters Mills Ohio, where Kate Burkholder is the local Police Chief. She also happens to be ex-Amish. Long since trading that fully-encompassing lifestyle, leaving everything and everyone behind for an English life.

An Amish woman and her two granddaughters are on an outdoor adventure picking walnuts at a nearby deserted farm. What should have been a delightful play-day quickly turns deadly.
As the grandmother is suddenly and brutally attacked, she screams for her granddaughters to run for their lives! But only one is lucky enough to get away.
Now there’s an all-out manhunt to find the missing child who may be in the hands of a maniacal killer.

I always enjoy a good series. I love getting familiar with all the characters. It provides a more intimate connection as I’m reading. This series ranks as one of my absolute favorites!
Linda Castillo writes a mind-twisting, absolute unputdownable police procedural that will keep you reading all through the night!
The writing is sharp and draws you in immediately. My only regret... now I have to wait a whole year until Ms. Castillo’s next release!

This book could easily be read as a stand-alone. But I recommend starting at the beginning of the series!
Well worth the journey!

A buddy read with Susanne. Thank you for jumping into this series to join me!💖

Thank you to Allison Ziegler, St. Martin’s Press- Minotaur Books, NetGalley and Linda Castillo for an ARC to read and review.

Shamed by Linda Castillo
Shamed is #11 in the Kate Burkholder series and can be read as a stand alone. The author does it again with another riveting read with Kate Burkholder ex-Amish police chief investigating the kidnapping of a 7 year old Amish special needs little girl. This book holds your attention, makes you care for the little girl, has enough going on to keep you involved and wanting to find out who took the little girl and killed her Grandmother.....I had a hard time wanting to do anything other than read this book! If you have never read one of Linda Castillos books now would be a great time to start, while I on the other hand have to wait for her next book to be released. Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this ARC book!

This may be the eleventh in the series but it is still excellent. In fact, I think it's the best one yet. Although this is a series, it can certainly be read as a stand alone as each book brings a new crime. And this is a doozy. I could barely put it down and read it in two days.

Kate Burkholder is the local police chief of Painters Mill in Ohio right in the middle of Amish country. As a former practicing Amish woman, Kate knows the language and customs which eases the interaction in the community. In this one a special needs 7 year old girl is kidnapped and her grandmother brutally murdered. Kate is working at a frantic pace to find the girl and solve the murder.

There are more violent attacks and murders as Kate tries to find the small helpless girl and finds herself in the middle of a bizarre scheme of revenge and payback. This girl was taken for a reason.

I love the insight into the various Amish communities and their customs. It is a welcome addition to a well plotted and written mystery. This is a winner.

Thanks to Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Shamed is the eleventh book from Linda Castillo's series, Kate Burkholder. I liked it and would give it four stars.

Suspenseful, well written story about an Amish family and my favorite ex Amish police chief, Kate Burkholder. Although I felt that there was a bit more gruesome violence in this story, I love to hear about the Amish ways and their own special language and Linda Castillo has done a great job with this book.

An Amish grandmother is murdered, a young Amish girl taken and my favorite former Amish, now po!ice chief, will do anything and everything to find her. Before the case is finished, their will be more bodies falling, by a murderer who seems bent on revenge. It will even include two Amish bishops, from Painters Creek and another town. But what is the connection? The killing are of a very viscious nature, in fact the descriptions of the murders more explicit than I remember them being in previous outings of this series. Still such a good story. Intriguing, with all the usual elements. In every new addition we learn more and more about the ways of the Amish and the difference in the way they behave and think.

I love this series, love Katie and Tommasini, the ways they are put together. The way they work out the solution, how much they care. A well rounded series that keeps getting better and better.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalleyfor a free copy for an honest review.
An Amish grandmother is murdered and her 7yo granddaughter is abducted. Kate Burkholder races against time to find the missing girl while a lot of secrets swirl. Characters are very realistic. Lots of plot twists kept me captivated to the end. Shows dark side of Amish life and morals. I have read the whole series and found this equally gripping. Recommended if you like suspenseful police procedurals.

This series just keeps getting better and better. I inhaled this book, as I do all of Castillo's books. Kate is embroiled in a murder/ kidnapping case that sends her careening into other counties, tracking down clues, and getting beaten and shot at. As she stitches the clues together, a moral quandary wrestles in her mind: did the culprits who began this story act in the best interests or is the punishment befitting the betrayal?
I can't rave enough about this latest installment or this series, it's just outstanding.

Linda Castillo never fails to deliver a great story and quick read. Katie solves another Amish crime with her usual finesse! Lionel this series and all the usual characters.

As a huge fan of this series, I had high expectations from Ms Castillo. I was not disappointed! I really love the way she builds such realistic characters, blending the "English" and the Amish in such a believable way.

This installment starts out quickly, with a murdered gran and a missing special needs child from the Amish community. It quickly becomes apparent that the families involved are hiding something, and following the tangled bits are what Kate does best. .

Kate taps into her Amish roots, and with the help of her life partner Thomasini, pieces together a web of lies, deception, and good intentions gone badly. Her investigation outs her, and other's involved in harms way, and time is running out for her to save the few who know the truth.

Sheriff Kate Burkholder is both tough and compassionate, and her relationships within the community of Painter's Mill are genuine and endearing. . I look forward to the next Kate Burkholder story.

Shamed is the 11th book in the Kate Burkholder series. Painter's Mill is hit with the murder of a grandmother and the shocking disappearance of her seven-year-old granddaughter. Kate must rush to put the pieces together in this mystery while working with people who are unwilling to share their secrets. She must rush to find the girl before it is too late!
This is another great book in this series. It would also read fine as a standalone novel. Recommended for anyone!

This is in my opinion the best of the Kate Burkholder series. You could pick this up for the first time and delve right into the story without any background on the series regulars, but still get right into it. It's story-driven and a great mystery. Cannot wait for the next one!!

I mostly enjoy Castillo's work. I live in the area in which she sets her books. She does accurately reflect the Amish culture, and her books are always fast-paced.
This one starts with a gruesome murder and kidnapping.
My only issue with Castillo is she rigidly adheres to a formula with her novels
But that's not necessarily a BAD thing if the reader doesn't mind and, indeed, expects a certain formula. When we find a favorite author, we have expectations.

Another great intense and twisting read. This one will make you hug your children a bit more and your elders,

This book follows the investigation of the kidnapping of a young Amish girl. While a very uncommon occurrence, as details begin to emerge in the investigation, it soon becomes apparent that there is much more to this story. I enjoyed learning more about the lives of the Amish people and how these lives sometimes clash with modern culture. This was an interesting read.

I love Linda Castillo’s books. She does an excellent job writing mysteries that are intertwined with the Amish. I love that you can read her books quickly. They are so well written that I don’t get bogged down with any egregious material. Absolutely love Kate and look forward to reading her books for years to come.

After an Amish grandmother is brutally murdered and her seven year-old granddaughter abducted, time is quickly running out for Chief Kate Burkholder to find the girl. Every minute counts, but will she be able to discover the family’s secrets before it’s too late?

This tenth book in the series starts with a bang and never lets up, taking Kate to another Amish community in Southern Ohio along the Ohio River. The story focuses more on Kate’s Amish upbringing and her ability to understand the community rather than her own current personal relationships. If this is your first read of the series, I’m sure you’ll be clamoring for the rest.

Than you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Pub date July 16, 2019.

The only bad thing about finishing a Linda Castillo book is having to wait for the next one. This one had a great story line and enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and not able to put the book down.

An Amish grandmother is murdered, a special needs child is abducted and the clock ticks away for Chief Burkholder and her crew to hopefully find the child alive. This is a thrilling page-turner that begs the question, "How far would a parent go to get their child back?" This is my favorite mystery series and I'm never disappointed with Castillo's ability to create edge-of-your-seat suspense, while maintaining the integrity of the characters I've grown to love. What I love the most is how Kate and John's relationship has developed over the course of this series, at a very natural, non-forced pace and I can't wait to see what they encounter together next. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the DRC. 5 stars.

Shamed is book 11 in the Kate Burkholder series. I confess to this being my first book in the series although I have enjoyed a couple of Amish books before.
Kate is the Chief of Police in Painters Mill and is called out to investigate the particularly vicious murder of an upstanding Amish grandmother. Of the three grandchildren who were with her, Elsie, the 7 year old has been abducted by "the Devil".
The Amish hold their secrets tightly from outsiders, Kate does however met with less suspician as she is ex-Amish and speaks Deitsch. Time is against them in the race to find Elsie unharmed and the dead bodies seem to be mounting. Accidents or murder?
What secrets are being kept that put Elsie at risk?
Her love interest Tomasetti makes an appearance but I did not feel that he added to story in any way. He seemed rather superfluous to the story. If you read many detective/police procedurals the twists will not be that surprising and at certain points it was a bit repetitive. Shamed was still however an enjoyable afternoon read and the Amish aspect was enlightening.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Minotaur for the advance copy of #Shamed in exchange for my honest review.
