I do not read a lot of her books but I really got in to this one!! I love the way the story was told! had me on my toes all the way through! Held me captive wanting to find out who did it!

It was a page turner from the very beginning. The story was intriguing, and I love the fact that Kate is so determined to solve each case that she lets no one and nothing stand in her way. Love the chemistry between her and Tomasetti as well as her and her police family. I am thankful that she again saved the day by rescuing Elsie Helmuth and the Amish community of Painters Mill. I have read several books in this series and this one did not disappoint Reading about the amish is very interesting to me. This book kept me guessing and made me stay up late. I recommend this book. I will be buying it for the library because I have many fans..

Shamed by Linda Castillo is another great read in the Kate Burkholder series. It is one of those books that you look at the clock and its 2AM, but you have to keep reading to find out what happens. Castillo does a wonderful job of depicting life in the Amish community. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more books by this author. Hope Castillo never stops writing about Kate Burkholder. Shamed is her 11th book in this series and I have totally enjoyed them all. Kate is a policewomen/ex-Amish member. Painters Mill is lucky to have her expertise in solving bizarre and complex murders that take place in this Amish community. Always wanting more of her love interest John Tomasetti has kept the romantic suspense going in this series also. Shamed is a murder/kidnapping with some intense scenes. I am a huge fan of the Kate Burkholder series written by Linda Castillo. I have followed this series from the beginning and once again, she doesn't disappoint. When something works, keep at it. I love this series and the Amish town of Painter's Mill that it follows. I live in Kentucky across the river from Ohio, so these books feel like home to me. I like that I can picture this town in my head after visiting Amish towns in Ohio before. Kate Burkholder holds a special place in my heart, as does Linda Castillo. In this book, we find a missing girl and her dead grandmother. Kate is determined to find the killer. Castillo weaves you through Painter's Mill and surrounding Amish communities. You meet new faces and still see some of the reoccurring characters from books before. Castillo keeps you guessing from page one to the very end. If you have read a Kate Burkholder book yet, now is the time. I would definitely recommend this book to others and will continue to check out Castillo's future works. The only witness to the horrific crime is the girl’s younger sister. Kate Burkholder takes the case but can she save the day or will time run out?

As Kate’s investigation intensifies, the body count climbs and of course, the plot thickens, revealing a dangerous killer who is hellbent on getting his revenge. 5+stars this is a must read for 2019

Just when you thought this series couldn't get any better, it does! This series just keeps getting better with each new book. Murder, mystery and a missing 7-year- old all goes down in Kate's Amish town which equals a fast-paced, can't put it down novel. If you haven't followed Kate and her crusades, trial and tribulations check out the series now with book #1 Sworn to Silence and work your way up to Shamed due out in July. I was introduced to the series with book Gathering of Secrets and didn't feel lost at all but what it did do was caused me to purchase all the previous books in the series. So you can devour Shamed as a stand-alone or fall in love with the entire series you won't be sorry.

Great book by a wonderful author. One of the better in the series. The Kate Burkholder series follows the Chief of Police of the small town of Painters Mill. Kate was born and raised in the Amish faith and family, upon reaching adulthood she chose to leave the Amish and become a Police officer. This book like the previous ones takes us inside a crime in the Painters Mill area. This time there is a kidnapping involved as well. Like all of the series Shamed can be read as a stand alone book, although I feel it would be enjoyed more if the previous books were read as well.

After the last book in this series I was really hoping for a "lighter" read this time and it did not disappoint. Yes, it was a murder and a child abduction but it was much easier to read than the last book about a rapist being killed. I think my only diaappointments with this book was that it seemed short. I read through it quickly. And I would like it if they focused some more on late and tomasetti's life together and romance. When will they finally get married?? I would love to see kate pregnant again and not lose the baby.

Linda Castillo does it again! I don't know how it is possible but each one of her Kate Burkholder books is better than the previous one. This series never gets stale and each book is a thrill ride. This book like all the rest in the series is fast paced and fun to read. I am always guessing throughout each book and blown away by the details and ending. I grew up and currently live in Northeast Ohio and have had interactions with the Amish and Castillo never ceases to amaze me at how accurate her details regarding them are. I highly recommend you read this series!! Thank you Net Galley for an early advance copy of this. I have been on pins and needles since reading book 10!!! Hurry up and release book #12 please!! :-)

Grandma Mary loaded Elsie and Anna into the buggy and headed toward the old farm down the road to collect black walnuts from the trees in the yard. Memories of playing at the home as a child filled her head. When they turned into the gravel drive, Elsa hopped out to open and close the gate. It would be a fun day for the girls and their grandmother. Each took a burlap bag, put on their gloves and started picking up nuts. She reminded the girls to only grab the nuts that were green and mold free. The two played as they gathered. From the corner of her eye, Mary saw something in the house. As she walked toward the back of the house she peeked into the kitchen, nothing there. She entered thinking an animal or tree shadow probably fooling her. She hollered to the girls to stay by the buggy that she would be with them shortly. Turning around she saw him. He was a large, hulking man wielding a large knife. Although she tried to fight back he had strength and age on his side.
When Mary never returned for the girls, Anna went looking in the house, the last place she had seen her. Entering, she saw her Grossmammi lying in a pool of blood. She leaned over, trying to see if she could help when the man appeared. Anna cried out, ‘Da Deivel”. He left in a hurry taking Elsie with him.
Chief Kate Brubaker was called onto the case in Painters Mill, Ohio. About a third of the small town were Amish folk. As she had been raised in the community before leaving the area at age eighteen, she was now back as chief of police after years of law enforcement.
Each novel that Linda Castillo has written in the Kate Brubaker series involves the the Amish community in some way. Shamed is her 11th novel and this one continues to be equally intriguing. I have read them all. Each explores a different case, this one involves the Old Order Amish and the adoption of a child that was taken from her parents at birth.
If you are a mystery fan and not familiar with Linda Castillo, I highly recommend her books.

I love Linda Castillo’s Kate Burkholder series placed in Ohio’s Amish country. Shamed takes off at a quick pace after a grandmother is found murdered and one of the grandchildren she was with is missing. The story unfolds and takes place over 117 hours as Kate races against time to try to solve who took her.

Things I love about this series: 1) pacing is always controlled and fast 2) Castillo keeps the cast tight and it’s easy to know who is who. 3) Kate is a smart and no nonsense character yet you can evoke a lot of feeling for her. 4) Tomasetti.

You don’t have to read all the previous in the series to enjoy this, but I recommend it. Especially if you want to see how the relationship between her and Tomasetti developed and Kate’s own struggles.

Shamed is the 11th astonishing book written by Linda Castillo involving Police Chief Kate Burkholder. The suthor has written another fantastic story focusing on mystery , murder, and the Amish faith. There is so much drama and suspense the reader will not want to stop reading. This storyline is simply incredible and I enjoyed it immensly.

The characters are very likeable and add greatly to the story. I always enjoy Kate Burkholder and her lust for justice. John Tomasetti, Kate's love interest, is at her side once again helping her maneuver through this twisting mystery. Together these two are unstoppable. The interaction between these two characters adds depth to the story.

This story will take the reader on a journey that is very unexpected and the outcome will leave them gasping. I was drawn into this story from the first few pages. With lies and deceit being thrown at Kate throughout the entire story it makes her solving the crime very difficult. The author has done a tremendous job telling this story and she has certainly added to the quality of her writing.

I was given the opportunity to read this book in advance of its release through Netgalley and Linda Castillo. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this outstanding book with five stars for definitely meeting my expectations of a superb book that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Linda Castillo for writing another amazing mystery for her readers to enjoy. I will be anticipating more from this author in the future.

Another intriguing book by Linda Castillo! I very much enjoyed this captivating mystery set in the amish countryside. Each addition to this series is better than the last, I love a great story with a strong female lead, and this book does not disappoint. With all of the books in this series, one would think they would become lacking, but that is not the case with this author.

Hold on to your seat your in for a wild ride!! Kate gets a call about a wagon in a ditch and discovers a horrific murder of a Amish grandmother and that her granddaughter with special needs is missing. A parents worst nightmare a child has been taken by a stranger. Kate is racing against the clock to find out the truth before it’s to late but old secrets and lies are blocking her path to the truth. Another great edition to a wonderful series. Better not have plans when you start reading this book you will not want to put it down.

I finished this Kate Burkholder mystery in two sittings. As usual, Castillo writes a tight, exciting mystery set in Ohio Amish country. Kate and her new deputy Mona answer a call about an Amish horse and buggy loose on the highway near a derelict farm. It seems a routine incident until they hear a child’s screams coming from the farm yard. The child babbles about the devil hurting her grandmother and points to the house. Inside, Kate finds an appalling sight, an older woman dead on the floor from multiple stab wounds. Even more horrifying, the little girl stammers that the devil took her sister.

So begins a race against the clock to find a seven year old special needs child kidnapped by the murderer. Soon Kate’s investigation involves the county and state police as well as the FBI. It becomes obvious to Kate that the missing child had a problematic history. Her seven siblings have green eyes and blond hair. Elsie Helmuth’s eyes and hair are brown. An examination of the birth certificates of the Helmuth childen prove that Elsie could not have been born just four months after the birth of her nearest sibling. So who were Elsie’s biological parents? It becomes obvious that some very important people in the Amish community have something to hide. Elsie’s grandmother is not the only murder victim.

The mystery is a study in moral ambiguity. This is a tale of good people who do a very bad thing for what they believe are the right reasons. As Kate follows the bloody clues, she examines her own reasons for abandoning the Amish community.

Another fantastic novel to add to the Kate Brkholder series.

This is another stand alone book by her or read it in the series. I’ve always been fascinated by the Amish so maybe that’s why I enjoy this series so much. Another 4 star book!
