Jensen had only one goal in her life right now. Get closer to Rhett Montgomery and bring her mother down who abandoned her father and her. Ever since her mother left, her father wasn't the same and suffered depression until he passed. All her plan was in motion once she saw Rhett, her mother's stepson. Everything is going as she expected to until she felt something for Rhett.
This is first of the series and ends with cliffhanger. Jensen aka Jennifer Fannelli had such a hard life and things doesn't go her way and cant wait to read what happens for Rhett and Jen.

This was a decent read for me, it started really well with an interesting story, a great romance starting with the heroine wanting to dislike the hero. The plot was great and I couldn't put it down but I can't say that I loved it so much or I hate it! I took a star almost solely due to the fact that there is a cliffhanger. I despise cliffhangers.

while the book is described as a revenger story, that is all in the eye of the beholder. As an avid reader I love a good enemies to lover book but this one might be considered on the light side of those tropes.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

A plot that is filled with the need to seek revenge on the mother who abandoned her years ago. Seeking out Rhett to achieve her plan is simply icing on the cake. Jensen finds everything she needs and the air of mystery surrounds the book.

This sadly wasn’t my favorite book that I have read by this author. I don’t want to spoil this book so I will say it just wasn’t for me.

The premise of this was really intriguing. A revenge story with a twist. It is not often you see the one at the receiving end of it is their own mother. I was automatically trying to figure out what plausible reason she may have to leave her daughter and severe all ties. The romance in this book was really well done. Rhett is a very honerable and sweet guy. Not at all what Jensen believes. Which puts a huge spanner in the works. I liked how Jensen slowly sees him and opens up. There many twists and turns in this book, lots of secrets. So you know its not going to be smooth sailing for our couple. This was a quick easy read, and with a cliff hanger ending Ill be definitely picking up book 2!

This book was intriguing and that cliffhanger!! The problem comes in the form of the main character. She's annoying and way to good for Rhett .

I liked this book but it was too emotional at times .It was about revenge. It kept me interested and as there are more books in the series I will have to read them. The characters were interesting and there was a good storyline.

Monica Murphy is such an amazing writer. I have never read a book by her that I did not fall in love with. And let me tell you, I swooned over Rhett big time. 5 stars

Wowzers! Yep. I said it. Wowzers. I don’t normally use that word but Murphy has created a epic story with Her Defiant Heart. From the start, the reader is pulled to the heart of the story and taken on a masterful rollercoaster ride.

With ups and downs, twists and turns, Murphy tells Jensen and Rhett’s story. The attraction that the two share is powerful. Jensen’s story of seeking revenge on her birth mom is a unique one. I loved watching her story unfold. I could feel her emotions like they were my own.

And Rhett…..oh lawd, I want my own Rhett! He was beautifully chiseled and perfect for his role in Jensen’s life. When Jensen’s secrets come to light…..well, just hang on. It’s one hell of a ride!

If you want a fast paced, completely captivating, undeniably amazing story, then this 5 star read is for you. But, be warned! There is an absolutely epic cliffhanger at the end, and it will leave you wanting more instantly. I can’t wait to read book 2 and find out more!

I am a fan of Monica Murphy and have highly recommended her books in the past but this book was not a win for me. There was not enough back story or character development, I was not engaged in what happens.

The description of this book was such a hook, I was terribly excited to read it. The overall impact of actually reading it did not exactly live up to the hype in my head. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the read, but I didn't get nearly enough from the first book of this series. Am I still overly interested in what happens next? Yes. Hello?? Cliffhanger much? Could I tell you when I will actually get around to reading it. Nope.

Jensen is a confusing character. Usually you can see the shift and character arc throughout a book that leads them to make certain choices or turn out a certain way. However, you really don't get much of that with her. You start in the dark about why she targets Rhett but after finding out why, it is a round of confusing mess after confusing interaction... not to mention slightly weird. You want to ship them but for me it was hard to get passed the weird connection they have through her mother.

Curious how the series progresses.

A different type of story then I’m used to from this author, but just as good as the rest of her books. I can honestly say this one was her best yet. All of her books just keep on getting better. I can’t wait to recommend to all my book friends!

Agghhhh. Cliff hangers kill me every time - but I’m very interested to see what unfolds next.

Revenge by seduction. I'm not sure if it's the best kind, but it makes for an entertaining read. Jensen is a tough woman and she's determined to do what she needs to to make her own way. She meets Rhett, or rather he sees her, and it's game on. He wasn't what Jensen was expecting, and that's where it gets interesting. This is book 1 of 3, so I have more reading to do!

I shocked myself by DNFing this one - I adore Monica's writing BUT I really struggled with the main character. Jennifer is consumed by bitterness so much so that she has dedicated herself to finding the mother who abandoned her and taking some form of revenge. Jennifer is a very negative person and although you can empathise to a degree, you also wonder why she hasn't come to the conclusion is the bast revenge would be her own happiness rather than someone else's misery. After reading a few chapters and still not warming up to her and then struggling to pick the story back up I thought it best to move on.

This is an easy, quick romance book. I liked the revenge plot, and I liked that you got a little of the backstory, but I definetly hopes for more. It ends in a cliffhanger, and I think that if you enjoy the book it would not bother you too much.
There was a little smut in it, and to be honest it is definetly not the thing I enjoy the most reading. But it was ok for my taste, it was not too much. It is a little cliche, and it went pretty quickly after the two of them meet. But I did enjoy that you got potions of backstory so you knew what had happened.
This is a kind of forbidden romance, where we are at the story, the main character knows everything about the love interest. She also knows that he is her stepbrother. We have not heard anything that he knows their relation. Jensen's (the main characters) mother left when she was young, and she married Rhett's (love interest) father, after his mother died.
Rhett seems to be a real gentleman, he is not forcing anything on Jensen, and he wants to get to know her. Jensen on the other hand is planning on screwing Rhett over so she can get to her mother. What she did not expect was to fall for Rhett.
Over all I will say that I enjoyed the story, and I will definetly continue on reading the rest of the book, because now I have to know what is going to happen.

So lets get this straight this book is a cliff-hanger but the next book is available now. This is a story of revenge and desire to see someone be brought down from their life when romance has an unexpected way of getting involved. I enjoyed reading this book and it was a roller-coaster ride of emotions as the main female lead goes through a lot of them, and i will certainly be reading book 2. This book has a serious revenge theme going on, i have read books about revenge before but this one seems so raw and desperate for the lead and i can understand that from what they have been through. Looking forward to reading book 2 when i have some time
