Opps. Although this is the third book in the series, this book can totally be read as a stand alone book. Although I am still going to go back and read the missed books as I like this author so much.

We get a great connections between our pair of main characters and the side characters are well fleshed out and certainly add to the story.

Sera is a strong female character who has been through loss, but has the love for her son keeping her strong and dreams about Aidan, a dragon shifter at night that leave her hot and bothered.

Aiden is trying his best as the Rookie on his team to get a permanent position. Dreams at night of him and Sera are all he can have of her as her believes that he cannot have Sera especially as he is an Orphaned dragon.

However, when Sera is in trouble and it is found that she is a dragon mate, things come out, especially as she does not just have one brand, but three on top of each other.

We get romance, mystery, thrilling suspense and strong friendship and love along with a great plot line.

Great read. Well-developed characters. Easy to follow storyline with low drama. Would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to pass a couple of hours.

Wow this book was just so good and so easy to get lost in. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I just didn't want it to end. I just couldn't get enough of these wonderful characters and I just loved getting to see their journey. I will most definitely be reading more stories from this wonderful author.

I never knew I needed Dragon shifters in my life!!
This is the second book in the series be can be read as a stand-alone.
Aidan is part of the Huracán team of dragon shifters and he's fought hard to earn his place there. The last thing he needs is a distraction.
Sera discovers that she is a destined dragon mate. Aidan is the one she wants but the Alliance Council and rouge dragon Rune might have something to say about it.
Such a good read. I did not want this one to end. There were so many twists and turns.
I'm hoping there will be a Drake book, so we can get an update and little Blake.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This book is part of a series, it reads ok as a stand alone. There were times I was confused but overall a story in its own right. It is a very convoluted story, lots of twists. Almost to much-I wanted simple and easy, this was not. I rate it a 3.5.

This was a good story about taking a chance to better yourself and finding love in the process. They had been having dreams where they interacted with each other. They each denied that in the everyday world but in the dream world they had quite the connection. She has a child to think about and he is alone in the world. She represents everything he wants and needs while she is anxious about her place in her world. She has never quite fit. When it turns out that she is different for a reason that leads to a bit of danger in her settled life, what is she to do except embrace it. Overall a fun read and leads into the next story which makes me want to read on with the series..

Book Review- The Rookie by Abigail Owen

I like the series that centers around the dragon shifters that work as firefighters. It is an interesting storyline. So far, I like the guys. Finn is the only one of the remaining groups that has found his mate.
Political agendas center around the mate selection process that pits Finn and his team against one of his “brothers”, Rune. So, you’ve got some betrayal and intrigue.
Aidan is the rookie and an orphan that according to the laws. Should have been put down as a rogue. He has worked hard and proven himself to join the team. Sera owns the winery not far from their headquarters and friend to Finn’s mate. She is a widow and has a son.
So, author throws some new situations. Sera ends up with three brands. It puts teammates against each other and possible political moves. Aidan drove me nuts because he doesn’t believe he deserves her. As a result, he almost loses her. Sera has to find help on her own.
Some instances are irritating and shocking. The ending is a bit sad in some cases. It was a good read. I wasn’t expecting the direction the author took it. I give it a 4 out of 5.

I liked Sera somewhat, that she was a bit of a different kind of girl. Though that they keep referering to Aidan as a Rookie or the Rookie was annoying. It was an alright read.

THE ROOKIE is amazing! The pace is fast, and the characters are fascinatingly realistic. The guys clown and throw barbs at one another and treat Aiden as any group would THE ROOKIE. Sera knows about shifters because they had saved the winery from a crazed dragon's fire, but she had no way of knowing that she could be one of their mates. Of course, she was more, stronger, and a surprise to everyone. This kind of twist is something that one can expect in an Abigail Owen book where she just takes her readers for an amazing ride.

*I received this book free from the author via Entangled Publishing.*

Sera didn’t want to know about dragons. She didn’t want to run a vineyard by herself, even if it once belonged to her family. She especially did not want to keep having dreams about a sexy dragon who wanted absolutely nothing to do with her in reality. What she wanted was to keep her son safe.

Aidan had been drawn toward Sera since the first time he’d met her. He couldn’t even sleep without seeing her in his dreams. But he was the orphan, the rookie, and he had to focus on proving himself to his team. He didn’t need the entanglements of a human woman.

Sera’s temper brought forth her dragon mate traits. It also meant she was a threat to her own son if she didn’t find her mate. Problem was she didn’t want to go to the Mating Council, she wanted Aidan to feel the same way she did toward him. She wanted him as a mate and a dad for her son.

The Mating Council got a little too excited to find out what Sera’s mark showed, but it was all too obvious their intentions, causing everything to go crazy. Add in someone obsessed with Sera who will betray his team and a unorthodox mating that will cause complications not only to Sera but her son.

The Rookie is a stubborn romance with sexy hot dreams turned reality, a stalker like suspense, and a storyline that will capture your attention. Fire’s Edge is a wonderfully entertaining series and I cannot wait to read more.

I found the story to be quite good with a solid and unique plotline. The characters were nicely developed. Good word building.

It’s pretty clear to us readers that Sera isn’t just your average widow looking to protect her young son, Blake. She’s a dragon mate, and her mate is Aidan. Bada boom bada bing. No mystery there. That being said, it’s still a fun ride to see the process of Sera and the rest of the Huracán enforcers discover the truth of what she really is. Something I really appreciated about this book was that it added some surprise elements which truly distinguished it from the previous two novels in the series. We aren’t just dealing with another woman who discovers she has a significant role to play within the world of dragons.

I must say the constant hinting as to the hidden identity of our villain was brilliant!! We don’t know who it might be, but then we see the list of possibilities narrowed down to two men. While we see things from this villain's point of view, and hear his delusional inner musings about how Sera must be his destined mate, his identity is kept a secret until the very end of the book. Just when you think that maybe a chapter or scene will end with a big reveal of who is thinking these thoughts, we switch to focus on something else. It ramps up the suspense to an amazing level!

I really appreciated the fact that this book started to tear away at the intrigue and political deviousness of the Alliance Council. It’s something that’s been hinted at and touched upon quite briefly in the previous books, which were much more focused on the process of a dragon finding his human mate, the shifting process, etc. We also finally uncover the identity of the spy within this group of enforcers. In spite of all the espionage and political discussions at play here, I was shocked at how emotional of a read this book ended up being. I was NOT expecting that at all, and it knocked my socks off.

book 3 in the fire's edge series, the rookie, has rookie firefighter/orphaned dragon shifter aiden finding his soulmate where he least expects it.

he'd thought the dreams he had of sera were a product of his overactive imagination and desire for her. little did he know that she had shared the visions too. in the daylight hours, he does his best to stay away from her, not realizing how hurtful and confusing she finds it because she is as drawn to him as he is to her.

and when her fire brand is revealed, it's clear why. he is meant to be hers, even though her brand is three families entwined, she knows from his reaction, from the depths of her very soul that she is meant to be his. but the mating process for dragon shifters has become dangerous and highly politicized. and the fire's edge team has already broken more than a few rules.

soon it will be all out war, and the rookie takes up that intensity. i can't wait to see where the next book in the series takes us. hopefully, it's drake's turn to find love. he's running on borrowed time at this point.

**the rookie will publish on april 22, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.

This is a first time author for me & while I didn't read the 1st book in the series the author gave enough information for me to catch up. If you like fast-paced paranormal romance/fantasy novels this book is for you.

I enjoyed this story and will recommend it to other shifter fans. Looking forward to more in the series.

Book 2 in this world and I’m already hooked! You can probably dive right in here, but, as always, I recommend starting from the previous one.

We join back up with this team of firefighting dragons (weird, right? Yet it totally makes sense). They are still determined to keeping humans unaware, keeping everyone safe from rogue dragons, and continuing to work as a tight-knit team. Aiden, the rookie, is eagerly proving himself on the team. He comes from a different background, and probably wouldn’t have gotten this far without the help from some truly phenomenal people.

In the previous story, we met a winery owner, her kid, and the woman who became the first dragon mate with some weirdness going on in her markings (or lack thereof). This time around, we’ve had some time between books, and Aiden is still just as smitten with the winery owner, Sera. They’ve been sharing steamy dreams for a while, but neither acknowledges that they might be something bigger than fantasy.

There is, of course, a twist. The shadowy feeling around the whole mating process was called into question previously, but this time it is very much in your face. Sera and Aiden have even more drama thrown at them when someone forces her dragon sign, almost kills her and her kid, and makes everyone go on the run. There’s a bunch of action, betrayal, and mystery rolled up in this paranormal romance. There’s a happy ending, but everyone has to trust their instincts to get there unscathed.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. The Rookies is the third book in the Fire’s Edge series and I loved getting to go back into this world and meet these characters. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I’ve read shifter books before. They were anything between Teens and YA and Erotica.

Those books were always really gratuitous and made it super obvious that they were about shifters. The books had mentioned how different the shifters were from “regular” humans. Those other books ALWAYS made it seem extremely obvious they were about shifters.

Not so the case here.

It was sort of accepted that there were shifters around. That might have been due to the fact that it is the third book in the series, but it certainly didn’t feel like that. It was done extremely well. The fact that they were dragons seemed as a bit of an afterthought. Or maybe more of an extra detail.

The romance between Sera and Aidan and creating a family with Sera’s son Blake seemed to be at the forefront.

Aidan, from the beginning, showed a connection with Sera that no one else did. So much so that all the other characters were just waiting for them to accept it.

The villains in this story were not the ones I thought they were going to be. And the changes in POV make it so interesting to read. It was honestly a very well built world and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
