This book is both an enjoyable read and an introduction to sustainable Christmas-tree-farming methods. The author's "voice" is appealing and comfortable, and he tells his unusual story with an appropriate amount of detail (not overly technical)

What a delight was to read this book. Inspiring to the core. I could not stop thinking all the people that will benefit from reading it.

About half-way through the book, the author admits that only someone very interested in the specific strategies of working a small business/farm would still be reading the book. I agree with him. I admit that I thought this would be more of a story about their journey to running this tree farm, but it's more of a DIY manual for managing a similar enterprise, with a lot of advice from the author on his own issues and solutions. There's practical info about tying knots, making wreaths, coppicing trees, and other specific information. I did enjoy the tidbits about the author's life and about New Hampshire. I don't think I was really the target audience, though.

Carving Out a Living on the Land was an interesting book. It tells about the highs and lows on working at a Christmas tree farm, including some of the random details the rest of us have no clue about. It was also fun to read about how one thing lead to another, such as spoon carving. The book is in a sense a tribute to farmers out there and I loved that aspect of it.
