Macrame for Home Décor is truly a book with 40 Stunning Projects for Stylish Decorating by Samantha Grenier and Pepperell Braiding Company. From projects that are simple such as the plant hangers to the more elaborate comfy chair, there is something for everyone. It gave clear directions that were simple to follow so that the project I tried turned out wonderful.

I like the colored photographs and the detail description of the supplies that could be used. Also the knotty level guide was helpful. But the very best was the knot illustrations that had different colors for the different threads. Perhaps that is common but I had not seen that in directions on sites such as Pinterest. It made keeping the knot simple and easy to follow.

While I loved the chair, I may never try that one but the plant hangers especially the air plant hanger was fun and easy to do with the right materials. I thought the different owls for wall hangings looked as if older children would enjoy doing too.

The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

The 70s must really be having a revival - I tend to associate macramé with my 70s childhood, but the designs in this book feel contemporary. I am looking forward to trying some of them out.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance ARC copy of this book.

What a fabulous book to have to learn to macrame. Still a little tricky for a brand new novice, but with practice, the guidance appears easy to follow and understand. The cute drawings are a bonus, and the diagrams for the knots logical and simple.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to macrame? Do you have those skills but just want to brush up or see new ideas? This is the book for you.

Macrame for Home Decor is a book that shows you how if you can tie the knot for tying your shoes, you can macrame. This book contains 40 projects that are both fun and creative.

The photos, instructions and illustrations show projects for all skill levels. I always thought macrame was for plant holders and those knotted owls of the 1970’s, but this book shows lots of other interesting projects to try. (Boy, my checkbook should love all these new projects to line up with what I’m already doing!)

I definitely give this book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it for both the seasoned and new crafter alike. Happy crafting!

***I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley, Fox Chapel Publishing, and the talented author Samantha Grenier for the opportunity to review this fantastic book.

This was a book that I was very excited to get an advance copy to review. I have been wanting to learn macrame, so I was ready to get out my tools and get started....
First, the good: I very much appreciate that the author took time to explain how to make substitutions if certain materials are not available. Some authors seem to assume that everyone has access to a big box craft store or Amazon. I live in what summer would consider to be a third world country, and finding specialized tools and materials can be difficult. I had always wondered if I could used yarn or other materials instead of getting the special macrame cording, and this book gives good advice on that (short answer: yes, but needs to be tested if using it for weight bearing items).
Now, the part that I didn't like so much. The actual projects, to my mind, were a bit lacking. The pictures did not always give a good idea of how the knots contributed to the overall design. Many times, ribbon or pieces of fabric were integrated into the knotted cords, which, to me, obscured the design elements.
However, there are still several projects that I really want to start, including a very nice chair back that would be perfect for my balcony! Also, there are directions for a room divider that evenhas instructions for building the frame! Definitely on my list!
So, while I can't say that the entire book fits my sense of style, I did really enjoy the ideas that I got from it and I will certainly be using it more!

Note: I received an Advance Reading Copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

My mom is the one who started me on my crafty journey. Back in the seventies macramé was the way to decorate your home, and these past years it has been making a come back. All my own books, gotten second-hand, are from decades ago, and the style is a bit... old-fashioned shall we say? When this book about macramé came up for review on NetGalley I couldn't resist because I hoped for more up to date projects.

The book, written by Samantha Grenier, starts with information about tools and materials. She has some good tips about what kinds of materials you can use, and even how you can make some yourself. She then moves on to a long, detailed section explaining the knots, hitches and braids. Then it is time for the projects. The projects are separated into four sections: Home Décor, Mats, Plant Hangers and Wall Hangings.

The projects are described really well, including any other materials you might need. One aspect I really like is that Grenier uses Ikea as a starting point for a lot of the projects. This make it easy to replicate the projects because most, if not all items will be widely available wherever an Ikea is found. Some projects are very modern, like the redone Poang chair and the chamber screen. Some project are macramé classics, like the plant hanger in lots of variations and the wall hangings. Most wall hangings are a bit too seventies for me, but one I really liked and probably will replicate are the banners. Having permanent banners is always nice for birthdays and parties, and these are something different from the fabric ones you usually see.

The projects are very well illustrated with drawings for the patterns (I find drawings always work better than photographs when working with knots) and pictures of the finished projects. Each project has a level of complication between 1 and 3, estimated working time, finished size, cords used and other supplies used.

This is a very nice, modern Macramé book. Good for people new to the craft, but it also has some interesting projects for those crafters like me who already have a lot of books with the basic knots. Because some projects are still a bit too old fashioned to me, I give this book four out of five stars.

Macrame for Home Decor by Pepperell Braiding Company is a crafting book. It reminds me of when my mom used to do macrame projects.
There are several projects in the book with detailed instructions and photos.

I am new to macrame and have not had a chance to actually make any projects from this book. The directions are accessible and seem clear to me. The projects are more modern than other books I have seen and seem relatively simple. I actually might try one or two of these!

**I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review of this book.

Well thought out and outline, this book bring Macrame to life for the crafter. Step-by-step instructions, diagrams and photographs thoroughly illustrate how to accomplish 40 designs for use in the home . There are plant hangers, lampshades , wall hangings and chairs included , each with a unique macrame design. The author has described the materials and tools necessary and given difficulty and time ratings for each project. The reader would have no problem gathering the materials and equipment and completing any of these projects. This is an excellent presentation of the craft.

This book starts with a detailed guide on materials and tools, as well as detailed step-by-step guides to macrame knots. The following section contains instructions on how to make projects like a chair back, a macrame stool top, or one of many plant hangers.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who is interested in trying their hand at macrame knot work, but it is equally interesting for more advanced macrame artists.

Love macramé, it is lovely to see it back in vogue. This book has some lovely projects for hanging things, woven type macramé and decorative knots. The illustrations are really very good and easy to follow. Starting with some simple knots and progressing to multi layered designs. I fell in love with the very simple feathers.
Some thing you will love others not so much, but one thing is for certain, there are lots of ideas and projects for the home

This book starts with explaining a couple of knots you need to know to make some gorgeous macramé projects, and it contains 40 projects to make. I love how those projects are nice and updated, and in fibers and colors that are fitting to a modern interior. I'm not sure I would use any of them apart from the plant hangers, but I'd love to try and make them, so I will probably start one of those projects too.

The instructions are clear (at least, they are to me, but as a scout I'm quite experienced with knots ...) and the photo's of the end products are beautiful enough that the end projects look awesome - and not so awesome that they're too scary to make, if you know what I mean.

This is a simple but helpful book if you're interested in learning to do macrame crafts. Each project has a color photo and detailed color sketches with step by step directions.

The 40 projects are broken up into these categories:

Home Decor (things like a lamp shade, room divider and woven chair to go over an Ikea chair frame)

Mats (of all different thicknesses, including plush yarn and cloth strips)

Plant hangers

Wall hangings

The book starts with instructions for how to do the knots covered. The projects are rated by how much time they take -- from a couple of hours to a weekend.

These are definitely updated macrame projects, not the 1970's plant hangers of jute that some of us may remember. Many are attractive and there were a few that I would like to try myself. I would have liked to see more use of recycled materials, like strips of old sheets and things like that. I never am a fan of craft projects that cost 3x as much to make as to just buy them in a store. :) There are definitely some affordable ones here and a bit that you could do with recycled materials.

I also really wish there were any photos of the works in progress. All the photos are of the finished projects and then just drawings of the steps. I found some of them hard to understand and seeing them being done with hands would have been very helpful.

In all, though, a nice little book that folks are likely to find inspirational and helpful.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

Macrame for Home Decor
by Pepperell Braiding Company

This book brings me back to my youth, when we would macrame bracelets with beads. What this book gives you is more ways to macrame and make decorations for your home. If you never tried it before you’ll find enough in the introduction to begin learning the process. A list is provided for tools and supplies that you need.

With written instructions, photos and diagrams of making the knots you can make any project that’s provided in this book. Macrame is a easy craft to start with if you’ve never tried your hand at crafting.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
