I absolutely freakin' loved this first book in the new series about small-town Maine's Knightly brothers. It reminded me a bit of a sexed up (and a bit humerous) version of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. I loved getting to know each of the four gorgeous brothers and can't wait to read each of their stories!

I have to admit, even though I loved Griff (the hero), at times he frustrated me. He let what was purely a coincidence regarding a loved one and 'the curse' rule his life. At times I wanted to slap him silly. But when he finally let the courageous, adorable Ren (the heroine) into his life fully, and saw how good it could be, I wanted to jump for joy!

Fans of small town romance that's filled with delightful, quirky secondary characters and a hero and heroine that you'll root hard for--you're going to love this story! I couldn't put it down--I wanted it to go on and on. I'm a big fan of Meghan Quinn--she's my go- to for sexy, funny, feel-good romance.

I love this series. Ren and Griffen are adorable and fudge and a small town--what's not to love. Can't wait for the next installment!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Oh Meghan you have certainly done it again ! This book was amazing, I loved everything about it.

A small town in Maine, fudge and the Knightly brothers what more could a girl want?

I couldn't help but chuckle on more than one occasion especially when Ren and Griffin first meet on her first day in town when this hunky volunteer firefighter rescues her from a tree after a moose v car incident.

I totally lost my self in this book and what better place to lose yourself then Port Snow and I can't wait for more on the knightly's

That second chance is the first in a new series by Meghan Quinn. The “Getting Lucky” series is a romance collection centered around a family in the small town of Port Snow.

I fell in love with the vibe of this book, it had all the makings of a great romance. It was swoons, heartfelt and had me laughing.

Ren and Griffin were an awesome couple. I loved how their relationship was built up and blossomed into a beautiful romance.
They needed each other and saw the best in one another.

Don’t get me started on all the meddling family members. It was hilarious seeing all their antics in trying to get these two together. I really can’t wait to see what else this series has to offer. That Second Chance was a very entertaining read and I’d totally recommend!

Griffin Knightly is at a great point in his life, being married to Claire and celebrating his brother's birthday in New Orleans. Yet in an instant everything changes when the brothers make a bad decision but it isn't until after that he realizes the impact.

Now every girls avoids him and his brothers like the plague but when the new algebra teacher, Ren Winters, comes to town he wonders if this could be his second chance at happiness.

This was such an awesome book and I loved it from start to finish.

I felt terrible for Griffin after what happened in New Orleans then what occurred when he got home. I could see why he through the curse was true and how he never wanted to go through anything like that again. He involved himself with the running of the family business and also got heavily involved as a volunteer firefighter and several other organizations around town.

Ren Winters was such a great character and I felt bad that she had such a bad accident and needed to get away from her parents to have a chance at some freedom. The moose incident was so funny yet at the same time with everything else that happened in the past I was worried about Ren.

I loved the friendship that began between Griffin and Ren and how it started off somewhat slowly but everyone else recognized the chemistry between them. The camping trip was absolutely awesome and I loved it!! I cracked up so hard though when his brothers "blocked" him by saying he could work upon returning to town. Then the arrival of Ren's parents just capped it off and I laughed!!

The beach scene was hot and I was so happy that things finally got heated up!

There were so many laughs with Griffin's family and how they went about different things. They put so many laughs in the book and kept everyone on their toes.

The twist towards the end I kind of expected but not the way it happened. I wasn't surprised that Griffin ran for the hills as it reminded him too much of the past. I was glad that Griffin finally confronted the past and learned the truth.

The end was excellent and I can't wait for more in this series!!

It was pleasant enough, but we were off to a slow start. 50% pass the story and still the main characters had not gotten romantic? It was super boring getting to the build up. I'm still debating if it's worth it and if I'll be seeking out book #2 or looking for previous stories around this world... and the answer is no.

It was ok-enjoyable, but not addictive enough to suck me into the series. 2.5 stars.

That Second Chance was the perfect start to a new series. I am a huge fan of Meghan Quinn. She writes stories that make you swoon and are full of emotion. This book had it all. I really enjoyed these characters.

Griffin is the oldest of four brothers and is one of the hottest bachelors in town. Woman in Port Snow steer clear of the Knightly brothers. Griffin deals with a tragic loss and has sworn off women after a curse was put on him.

Ren is so excited to start her new life in Port Snow Main. She is looking forward to being to be her own person. Her parents are a little overprotective and she needed to live her life. After surviving a terrible car accident she is ready for a fresh start.

Griffin and Ren’s meeting was your traditional one. They constantly run into each other in the small town. Ren is having a hard time fighting her attraction for Griffin and can’t figure out if he feels the same way. Griffin is set on not opening his heart to anyone again. He thinks if he isn’t with Ren she won’t get hurt. Will these two be able to find a way to make their friendship turn into something more?

I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

This one is amazing heartbreaking read. I loved it. Really, it was soooo good, funny full of family drama, great characters and amazing love story. Griffin and Ren are both great with amazing chemistry. I can’t wait to see the next brother to destroys the curse. Great read. RECOMMENDED
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

I love the whole idea of the curse thing and the way the author describes it happening is both intriguing and kind of creepy. How it plays out for the brothers in another story. But let's talk Griffin - I loved him as a character. Even as he tried so hard not to fall in love, I really liked him. Ren, though, she drove me crazy more often than not and there was a time or two I might have thought "what does he see in her?" but she grew on me by the end and I liked her a little better. All in all, though, this was a fun book with an almost supernatural twist without crossing into paranormal territory. I really liked it.

This is the first in a new series, and therefore has a degree of world building to do. It certainly gives us a picture-perfect vision of Port Snow and its inhabitants. It also sets up the reason for the Knightly brothers all being single – and this really didn't fit in with the upstanding, family-oriented, even sensible men that we meet in Port Snow. Maybe it is just my natural questioning of any such 'curse' as having an impact, but the fact that ALL the brothers use the curse as a reason for their lack of successful relationships seems a touch too far (Rogan in particular). However, I enjoyed the story a great deal, and just accepted their behaviour as being 'quirky.'

Griff's wife died very soon after they returned from New Orleans, and this certainly has sworn him off relationships – and made perfect sense in its own right. So when he rescues Ren on her arrival in Port Snow, his feelings towards her shock him and send him into some deep and complicated reflection.

As they get to know each other and he acts as her tour guide to her new hometown, we see them become firm friends, even if she definitely wants more, and he resists his urges at every step. It is amusing, sweet, funny, and also a little sad. I was totally hooked on the story and working out how he could possibly square the logic with the heart. For a man who appears to be good to his soul, we definitely are rooting for him to wake up to himself!

Ren is a fun person, even though she teaches algebra (!), and other than a few mentions of what was clearly a very traumatic car accident in her past, she is really a calm and centred being – except when being over-parented by her mother. I loved when they turned up unannounced. 😉

There are a host of possibilities for stories going forward that I am really looking forward to reading, especially now that the curse issue should be taking a distinctly back seat in proceedings. I am looking forward to more fudge recipe ideas, more fun from the brothers, and Rogan needs to find someone to unsettle him. I also hope that we get to see Ren and Griff move forward together in their pretty perfect town of Port Snow.

M/F Romance

This is a picturesque town with a great sense of community. When Griffin and his brothers are "cursed," the town gossip spreads like wildfire and then Griffin and his brothers are "those who should not be loved." With a tragedy following the curse, Griffin can't help but believe that him and his brothers truly are cursed.

When Ren decided that she needed to spread her wings and figure out her own life, she chose to take a job incredibly far away from her overprotective, helicopter parents. With an almost tragic car accident in her past, she knows that she wants to live her life on her terms. When she first pulls into town, of course she's met with an accident. Griffin comes to her rescue and from there, she believes that she might have found a great friend.

While this is a cute story, and I love Ren, it's Griffin's character that I have the most issues with in this book. He is not very strong mentally, despite him being portrayed as an alpha male. When he meets Ren, despite his interest, he relies on this curse to hold him back from living his life. He has this way of pushing and pulling against Ren that made my head spin.

Griffin's family were hilarious in this book and I can't wait to see them in future books. I think that if this story had focused more on Griffin and Ren, rather than the curse, it would have been more successful for me.

I really wanted to love this book, but to me, it fell flat. The "curse" that the brothers believe they have on them was yelled at them during a drunken night in New Orleans. Now, every time something goes wrong in their love lives, they blame the curse.

Griffin's the oldest and helps run his parents’ fudge shop, as does most of his siblings at one time or another. He's also a volunteer fireman, which is how he meets Ren on her first day in town.

Ren has her own story: nearly being killed in a car accident a few years ago, lengthy rehab, and now moving cross country to get away from her very overprotective mother.

Griff's belief in this curse is impacting his life in more ways than one. He's letting fear rule is life and is unwilling to love someone because the "curse" could harm her. In the end, it’s his fear that pushes Ren away.

I like the character of Griff, but his incessant talk of the curse gets old.

What a wonderful start to Quinn's new Getting Lucky series. This sweet and emotional series about the Knightly brothers, takes place in the small coastal town of Port Snow, Maine. This tight knit community is filled with close friends and family who are fun, quirky, nosy, and totally supportive. The kind of place that draws you in and makes you feel right at home. This first story is about Griffin and Ren. After a drunken encounter with his brothers and a fortune teller in New Orleans, Griffin is the first to suffer loss and begin to believe in the fortune tellers curse. He has closed himself off to the possibility of love. When Ren moves in from LA to be the new algebra teacher, she crashes into Griffin's life. He can't stop thinking about the sweet and sassy woman who can hold her own against his meddling brothers. But his guilt makes him keep her at a distance. Ren is patient tho, and as she grows more in love with the town and it's quirky residents, she hopes her friendship with the sweet and sexy Griffin will grow into love as well.
I loved Ren and Griffin, and thought they were so perfect together. I also love their friends and family who are authentic, funny, and not very subtle in their meddling. I was totally engaged in this fun, sexy, and heartfelt romance and am intrigued by the set up to Rogan's story next! I can't wait for more from Port Snow!

That Second Chance by Meghan Quinn
Romantic Comedy. First in a series of related standalones.

As always, my reading got so far ahead of my reviews, that by the time I sat down to review That Second Chance by Meghan Quinn , I realized it just wasn’t fresh enough in my mind to do a good review. So I grabbed the audiobook for $1.99 and listened to the audiobook to refresh my memory, and liked it even more on audio!

Celebrating a birthday in NOLA the four drunken Knightly brothers end up on the wrong end of a curse from an angry fortune teller.

“From this day on, your love will be broken. It isn’t until your minds have matured that the weight of this curse will forever be cured.”

When heartbreaking tragedy occurs just days later, Griffin blames himself and the curse. In fact, the whole town of women stays far, far away from the handsome brothers so they aren’t the next victims of the curse. Two years later Griffin occupies his time running his family’s tourist store in the picturesque town of Port Snow, Maine, as well as being a volunteer firefighter and head of almost every town committee.

Ren Winters almost died a year ago in a car crash in LA. She survived and is ready to start a new life away from her helicopter parents, as the algebra teacher in Port Snow when a Moose decided to run her off the road. Luckily, the oldest Knightly brother is on duty and rescues the hysterical Ren from her smashed car.

“Should I thank him for his services? Ask him out? See if he wants to be my Tarzanlike nurse?”

Ren can’t believe her luck. She is renting a house a few doors down from the handsome Griffin and he becomes her first friend, introducing her to the town of Port Snow. They develop a close friendship, but Griffin won’t put another woman in danger of “the curse” so he stays away romantically.

The Knightly family has captured my heart and I can’t wait to read about them all. It was one thing I really loved about the story, the closeness of the siblings.

“Griffin, I hate seeing you so alone, it hurts my heart.”
Taking a deep breath, I plaster on a fake smile. “I’m not alone, I have you fools.”

Poor Griffin. He is so tortured over the curse that he can’t relax and enjoy falling in love.

"My heart hammers so goddamn rapidly that it almost feels like I’m about to have a heart attack as I close the last few inches. All I want is to treat myself this one time, to see what it’s like to indulge in the woman who captured me the moment she appeared in my life. All I’m asking for is this one moment, this one instance, when I can forget about the past, forget about the curse, and live the life I wish I could have."

This was a very slow build-up but it totally worked for the story. My biggest issue is that there was a bit of a twist that ruined the story a little for me and just seemed very convenient and manufactured. Still, as always, I love Meghan’s writing and can’t wait for the next in the series.

"I think it's time you put your past behind you and start living in the present, because if you don't, you very well might miss out on something incredibly special."

Likes:
•The crossover from Two Wedding Crashers (I loved that book!)
•It’s nice when the hero isn’t a playboy.
•I love the town of Port Snow! We used to go up to a town like that in Maine every summer and eat lobsters on the rocks by the ocean.
•The relationship between the siblings (actually the whole family) was real and fun with banter, love and snark.
•Great pacing, I loved the slow burn.
•Good tease for the next book without it being too much.
•Sweet and light humor that wasn’t overdone.

Dislikes:
•This is so hard to talk about without spoilers, but the twist in the story is so manufactured it kind of ruined it for me in a few ways. Though it still could have happened, I would have liked that much more if it were an epilogue.
•I just didn’t feel the Meghan Quinn magic. It was a light romance, but not an LOL romance.

The Narration:
William LeRoy did an amazing job doing all the brothers - especially in texts between all of them. How incredibly hard to read that through in 4 voices without any hesitation! With fresh new voices, the narration made me enjoy it even more the second time through.

The Down & Dirty:
Meghan Quinn is one of my top 5 authors so I get excited for every one of her books, especially the romcoms. While I enjoyed That Second Chance, it wasn’t my favorite of her books. I felt like it was missing a little of her teenage-boy humor that I love. I really liked it both times I read and listened, but there is a twist that took away from the story for me and would have worked better for me if it happened after the story, in the epilogue. Still, I love the town of Port Snow and all the Knightly family and I can’t wait for That Forever Girl in August.

Rating: 4 Stars, 3.5 Heat, 5 Narration

I loved this book! The characters, the chemistry, the location—all made it hard to put down.

I wish port snow was a real place. I wish Griffin was mine. I wish I there was more to this group, oh wait there is! Yessss!!

Definitely recommend this series, it really highlights why I enjoy Meghan’s writing so much— the dialogue is always the first way to my heart and she really did a great job of making it flow well. And making it hilarious to read at times too.

Adorable. Sweet. Sexy. Perfectly Meghan Quinn!I wish Port Snow, Maine actually existed more than I care to admit. The illustrations of this small town that Quinn delivers to us in That Second Chance are so enticing. This is the exact type of small-town charm you find in the most delicious of Hallmark movies, without the extra side of cheese you don’t need.
Griffin, our hero, is absolutely perfect. He volunteers, he saves lives, he runs a family business, and he has loved and lost which makes him a little bit broken. The meet-cute between Ren and Griffin is one of my favorite parts of the story. It begins with him saving her, and ends with her saving him. It’s brilliant!
Honestly, between the charm of this Maine town, the descriptions of the food, the chemistry between Ren and Griffin, there’s just so much to love about this book. I especially liked how it ended, with a teeny tiny glimpse of the next story we’ll read from Quinn in this series. I can’t wait!

The second chance is a story of a man who got cursed by a palm reader and has had to suffer loss, loneliness, and even though he has family he’s missing something. Griffin is a volunteer firefighter, works at the family store, and just works his butt off around town. His world is gonna be upended when a certain algebra teacher comes to town.

Ren has suffered too and is trying to restart her life all the way across the country. She can’t wait to start her new life but isn’t off to a great start when a moose plays in the road. Her rescuer becomes her new best friend and is her neighbor.

Both learn how to live and flourish from each other and their attraction is off the charts. The banter is great and you can’t help but love Griffins family. I actually was sad when the book ended and have to wait for the other brothers to battle their curses. But liked this one a lot.

THAT SECOND CHANCE by Meghan Quinn in her Getting Lucky series. This is the book 1 in her four book series that features the Knightly brothers and their search for true love after being cursed by a fortune teller in New Orleans, Louisiana 2 years prior.
In book 1- Ren and Griffin- Ren Winters is new to the town and is the new teacher. She has suffered horrible pain in her past and is just ready to put that behind her when her 1st day in town, a moose hits her car. Not what she expected but hey, she gets a sexy firefighter to rescue her.
Griffin Knightly is the oldest brother of the 4 Knightly brothers; he's is the most reliable and responsible and is considered the hottest of the brothers but 2 years back , when the brothers came back from NOLA, something occurred that made people take steps back from the brothers and talk about them in unfavourable light. Griffin himself suffered a personal loss that made him take steps back and put shields up. He immediately delved into the family company, volunteer work- anything to keep him busy. That is until his path crosses with Ren Winters. He is the volunteer firefighter called out to rescue Ren who is scared to death.
Come to find out, Ren is the new neighbor who has moved in a few houses up from Griffin. There is instant connection and chemistry between them. Will Griffin fight this chemistry between him and Ren? Or will he allow the fears from his past get him the way of the present and of the future ?
This is a deliciously tempting read that is full of feels, romance, drama, angst, twists, turns, passion and love. I can't wait for book 2 and more brothers' stories to read.

Meghan Quinn brings the quiet town of Port Snow alive in That Second Chance. Ren and Griffin are the perfect pair to play off one another. They both have a past that is not a cake walk, but if they open themselves up to one another they could find the second chance they both deserve. I love their dynamic with one another also. Ren pushes Griffin like no one has before and will finally get him out of the hole he has been in since his wife has passed away. And the town of Port Snow is amazing, they all root for one another and are there for one another when needed. I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next book for this crazy, wonderful town.

Heartfelt romance full of heart and humor.
Hilarious and angsty!
There’s more to this story than you think!
This is book 1 in the Getting Lucky Series and it’s off to a great start!
A birthday celebration in New Orleans for one of the Knightly brothers leaves them stunned when an innocent incident introduces them to a mysterious fortune teller cursing them for all eternity or until they believe.

“Those who belittle and make others feel worse will feel the ungodly wrath of my curse.” “Listen to me, to the words I have spoken.” Her voice grows stronger, louder, more sinister. “From this day on, your love will be broken. It isn’t until your minds have matured that the weight of this curse will forever be cured.”

So the question really is...
Is it really the curse of a fortune teller or an angry old lady scaring off a rowdy bunch of drunk guys!
Following this fun weekend, Griffin suffers an unexpected tragic event that leads him to believe “the curse.”
That is until he meets Ren.
The stage is set for Griffin’s story and I was easily swept in to discover how it would all turn out!
Their immediate chemistry was undeniable, hilarious and full of sexual tension.
Their banter was sharp, funny and on point.
The back and forth and the struggles they both face had me cheering for them.
However, his constant struggle between letting go of his painful past and his semi belief about the curse, after awhile had me rolling my eyes a few times.
Dude come on?
But...there is more to his painful past and discovering what happens had me glued to the pages!
The old lady’s prophecy may have had some meaning but was it a curse or a premonition!
