This story is one that I wasn’t sure I’d like. At the start, I couldn’t see why they were together but the memories of how they met & got together showed the love that was created. I was happy to see them willing to work together & try to find a new normal. I was really glad that neither of them put the kids in the middle of their conflict.

Military families are hard. The one in the service doesn’t see or realize how hard everything is while they are gone. When they come back, it’s just assumed that they step back into their place. This story emphasized the feelings of the one left behind that had to become mom & dad but then step back from the decision maker g when their partner came back. I understood Mac & his fear of poverty but not the way he treated Teri & her decision making. Spending time together after the tragedy helped them each see the others side & helped them decide how to continue. This was another excellent story!

I received a free ARC eBook from the publisher and NetGalley. The review is my own honest feedback.

Although part of the Westmoreland series by Brenda Jackson, this is a standalone story. I've read a few of her Westmoreland series, so some characters were familiar.

I loved the give and take between Mac and Teri. while stranded after a tornado hits where they're vacationing, they have no choice but to listen to each otger, sharing their thoughts and working through their problem.

The challenges faced by military families, especially when couples are separated by deployment, was depicted in an honest manner. From the descriptions and storyline you understand the love, challenges, frustration, and balance for this couple. A great read that I recommend.
