This title should appeal to those who are moving forward in reading chapter books. At over 100 pages, children will enjoy spending time with a slightly longer book. With its illustrations, it still retains a bit of what kids enjoy in picture books as well.

Polly speaks directly to the reader who learns that there is a special power in these pages. What Polly writes in her Spell book is responded to and so Polly enjoys this dialogue. She also enjoys that she can make things happen. What, exactly will occur at the school fair? Young readers will have to read this one to find out!

Polly is curious and loves learning. Her book is called Spell because she loves spelling. She also knows that the word has multiple meanings. She also comments on syllables on the very first page. I found this interesting as a child that i am tutoring is working on this very topic.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the free review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely loved the first Polly Diamond book, and I'm pleased to say the second installment delivered! It was sweet and imaginative and will appeal to early readers.

It's School (book) Fair time, and Polly is super excited! She and her magic journal, Spell, create all kinds of zany adventures for Polly and her classmates. Mayhem ensues, but it's all in good fun AND easily fixable. :)

I love how much Polly loves books and words. She is a sassy, smart, creative little girl and I adore her. This is a fantastic series that I highly recommend to young readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for an eARC of this book.

Polly adores words...real words, made-up words, and playing with words. She's also excited that the school fair's theme this year is "books". When she writes special messages in her magic book, Spell, the school fair turns from ordinary to "super stunning spectacular".

This is a cute story, and I would recommend it to kids who love Fancy Nancy and her big words. There are lots of book references which kids will recognize, and it's a very positive look at a young person who loves the English language.

This is the first book I have read by Alice Kuipers and I thought it was so cute! Although this is the second book that follows Polly Diamond, I did
not feel like I had to go back to read the first in order to read this one which is great!

Polly Diamond is obsessed with spelling, inventing new words, and writing in her SPELL book. Every thing she writes in her book comes true which makes for such a fun read.
Cloud cotton candy, face painting coming to life, pop corn popping out of books!

I am excited to read this to the kids I nanny! It can help grow their imagination and maybe even make them curious about learning how to spell.

I fell in love with Polly Diamond in her first book, and was delighted to read this charming installment to her story. This time Polly minds magic and mischief using her magic notebook to enhance her school book fair. This book is full of fun! Carpet rides, books that pop out popcorn when you open them, and too many more to name. Featuring a cast of diverse characters and wonderful vocabulary, this book is a perfect fit for fans of Sophie Kinsella's Fairy Mom and Me Series.

I didn’t like this book. It’s a book written for children but it didn’t read as if it was written for children. It read as if it was written by an adult writing a book for children. So that threw me off and I didn’t like it.

An outstanding book. I think we have all wished for spell at some point. A book in which whatever you write comes true. A fantastic storyline full of magic and imagination. This is accompanied with some lovely illustrations. An absolutely incredible book and one I would happily read over and over again.

This book is so cute! I love that you can really hear how Polly is as a person through her thoughts and dialogue. She has cute energy and is relatable. Polly introduces new words and explains what they mean in a similar way to Fancy Nancy books, but this is unique because it includes pronunciation and a little more dialogue about the word. My 7-year-old daughter loved the cover and the story. It is a great lesson about wanting to do good things but realizing it might not always go as planned. Polly wants to make her book fair spectacular, but she quickly realizes that Spell doesn't totally understand what she said or interprets it a different way.

Such a cute story! Who wouldn't want a book that what you wrote inside came true? Poly and her very active imagination brings this to life at her school fair.
Full of cute drawings and funny stuff happening. Great characters (like Dawson Dawsons)

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, so I gladly picked up book #2.

Another story where there is a mgic book and what's written in its pages comes true.  The first book was pure fun.

The second book, was still fun, I loved the cotton candy part, and really liked that the books mentioned in the story are real and there is a nice list of them at the end of the book.

That said, Polly has tons of great ideas for the fair and she wrote several in the book. Of course they came true and hilarity ensued.

I enjoyed the vocabulary words and Polly's "invention" of "new words". The only downfall here was it might have tried too hard to put in vocabulary and English terms like similies. A few would have been fine, it just was a bit too much, too many and detracted from the story.

So I am giving the book 3.75***

And will look for book 3.

Thanks to Netgalley for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review!

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for providing a review copy.

Last year I was utterly charmed by the first book in this series, Polly Diamond and the Magic Book. This book was still fun but didn't quite live up to my expectations. Here, elementary school student Polly gets wrapped up in her school's plans for the book-themed fair. When she and her classmates find out the popcorn machine is broken, Polly worries that the fair won't live up to her hopes, so she writes all her ideas for the best fair ever in her magic notebook, Spell. What happens when her magic book brings all these ideas to life? This volume is long on definitions for big words and references to other kids books, but short on actual conflict and plot. Everything ends up resolved pretty quickly and easily, and most of the space in the book is spent describing Polly's neat ideas for the fair. The books Polly and her friends mention are all listed in the back of the book, and I like how many of them also star young girls of color like Polly. (I definitely added a few to my own TBR!)
