A great sci-fi, The Devil's Own is well written and a pleasure to read.

Here we find Delaney Murphy who has always known she's the Devil’s daughter. And although the title itself is a burden, she never expects to inherit all her father's infernal abilities.

When her newfound magic begins to poison the people closest to her, Laney must make a choice. To protect the world from the worst she can do, she leaves everyone she loves behind and builds a new life for herself, alone, in a place where she can control the urge to give in to the magic living within her.

With a bit of magical elements thrown in to boot. This one takes you on those mysterious and mystical rides through the whole book. It pulls out punches that you didn’t see coming. It was one of those fun reads that your were never expecting at all.

Sadly this was a DNF for me. This book was trying to be too hard to be edgy and hitting all the marks for cringeworthiness instead. The writing is clunky and overly descriptive, which in combination makes it frustrating to read.

I did not hate this book, but there was just something about it that was not working for me. The pacing was unusual... the chapter breaks would immediately pick up where the last chapter left off with no sort of time progression or change of tone. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it was strange enough to me that I noticed it and I felt it negatively affected the flow of events. I found myself almost halfway through the book feeling kind of bored and detached from the characters - I did get a little bit more interest when Callum and Moose were introduced, but I am not a fan of the detective and can't really relate to Delaney, the protagonist, so when their romance started to progress, I was not feeling it at all. I think this book was just not for me.

A well written entry in the urban paranormal genre, I enjoyed this story immensely. A multi dimensional character, with an intriguing plot, I would definitely recommend this book, especially to anyone who is a fan of the genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is the first book I've ever read in the Urban Fantasy genre and I completely devoured it.

I’m trying to decide how many stars to give. I’m trying to decide between 3 and 4 so I’m gonna give it 3.5 stars.

My reasons:
- the idea behind the story is great. The Devil has a daughter. I must make a confession right here. I loved his character the best and I’d like to know more about him, his powers and the problems he faces in Hell. And about Hell in general. (this is a reason for my higher rating)
- I was hoping for something more. More investigation on Laney’s part, more action too. If The Devil’s Own is only just a preface to a big and complicated story than count me in, I want to know everything. (this is the reason for my lower rating)
- Romance… is it going anywhere? I can feel a love triangle here or some serious heart breaking…(hoping for the latter...fingers crossed)

All in all I enjoyed this story, it has promise to become something great.

I received a free copy from Acorn Publishing through NetGalley and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a fun quick read that I enjoyed! The lead character is awesome and powerful, and is learning to come to terms with her power and how to wield it. There's also a little bit of romance and an entertaining plot. The book reminds me a bit of Lost Girl, the TV show, which I am a fan of, so if you're a fan of that show, you'll probably enjoy this book as well. (3.5 stars)

Although I enjoyed this book by KA Fox, I was disappointed that the intriguing synopsis was not fully borne out by the book itself. It started off with a bang but the pace seemed to waver and then slow throughout. The concept is however interesting and I will give the next book a shot.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this book.
However I'm not really sure how i feel about the main character Lainey. It just kind of feels like when confronted with the way shes acted or how she hurt someone else's feeling she is just like" oh yeah your right.. i didn't think of it that way." which kind of bugged me.. I did like the other characters, you have Angus who is Lainey's father... oh and also the devil. He hung out on earth for a little while being a rock star then had to fake his own death in a plane crash. (Lainey and her mom know what he is and that he is still alive).

So in this story something or someone is after Lainey and he decides to send over some help to keep her safe. She ends up with Moose a hellhound and Calum who is some sort of supernatural that works for Angus. There is also another character named Torrin who accidentally gets bound to Lainey and he is just sort of there not really helping or anything. But as i think this is a first in a series, I'm hoping there will be a reason that hes around,

I did enjoy this book, and I will read the second one to see where the series is headed..

This book started with a bang and ended in a simmer. It started out so strong, then slowly lost me. Things should have been more developed. But I'm absolutely willing to read the next book to see if it picks up the pace again.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This was a very interesting book. I love Laney I got that she is very caring person even with all that is going on in her life. She is known as the Devil's Daughter and she got his power and abilities. She leaves all she knows and cares about to keep from hurting those around her. Then she is drawn out of her isolated life to do the right thing. The question is will she do it or save herself?

The cover and the jacket blurb definitely pull a reader into starting the book. The story pulls you the rest of the way in. With a great lead in...the devil's daughter...and a growing cast of characters, KA Fox has set into motion an easy to read and follow story line. But, other than saving the world as we know it, the characters have to learn to work together without falling into the trap of many books that have a great lead in but no story. I found all of the characters interesting, the author plays them off one another very well, almost as if she knew them. How such a motley group comes together to defeat the evil in their own back yard made a great story.

The Devil's Own has a fast-paced, blood-pumping opening that jump-starts the novel.  Unfortunately, the rest of the book slows down to a crawl.  There were many interesting characters and situations, but they weren't developed as well as they could have been.  Much of the story takes place at Laney's home where, instead of being a kick-ass heroine, she was in hiding.  And while it was very cool that her dad was the devil, Angus Murphy didn't do any devilish things.  He was a great father figure, and was protective of his only daughter, but other than that, he did nothing impressive.  The writing in this book was very good, but the plot was simply too slow.

Three out of five stars.  Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

4.5 Stars!

I’ve read plenty of novels dealing with the abstract idea of the devil. When I read the summary for The Devil’s Own, I was intrigued by the idea of not only getting to know the devil up close and personal, but to discover the traits he passes on to his half human daughter.

Delaney Murphy is the daughter of late rock legend, Angus Murphy aka the devil. Not even Angus knew that his daughter would inherit some of his darkest powers, but she did. As a teen and in the worst place possible, Delaney’s powers manifest and cause her to go into hiding in the bowels of hell with her father for two years.

The way I understand it is both Delaney and Angus need the energy of others to survive. They call it feeding. Since her assent back to the earthly plane, Delaney has lived a life of seclusion on a large property outside of Omaha, Nebraska. That was until she caught the scent of a demon serial killer.

Delaney goes undercover to catch this killer and makes it out alive, but not unnoticed. Once back in Nebraska, Angus sends someone to watch over his only daughter and keep her safe. Callum pops up at a most inopportune moment, but gradually grows on Delaney. I thought this might make a romance while fighting evil, but someone else shows up to make the duo a trio. Torren was the detective assigned to the case Delaney went undercover for. He tracks her to Nebraska and finds out who she really is. The trio along with the most adorable hell hound, Moose, set out to fight a new evil literally in Delaney’s back yard.

What I had envisioned as a supernatural mystery with an in-depth look into the devil was so much more. At only 205 pages, Fox packs information and thrills into every one. From start to finish, Fox kept me guessing and gave me a new insight into the underworld and the effect it has on the earthly plane. Since this is the first in the Murphy’s Law series, I envision reading more about the other worldly adventures of Delaney and her crew in the future. I don’t know when the next book comes out, but I can’t wait to sink my teeth into another story from K.A. Fox!

I received The Devil's Own for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Enjoyable with an original concept and storyline. Unfortunately, i found the whole a bit bland, so were the characters. It was missing a bit of spark for a first book,

Laney has powers and now she has to find her place in the world. Having a father like hers is not really helping and then there is a series of crimes alerting the enemy to Laney's existence. This makes her life even more dangerous and a lot harder.

Thank you Netgalley and Acorn Publishing for an arc copy of The Devils Own in exchange for an honest review

This gave me the vibes of Lost Girl, which is right now down ally but with that being said, I think I would have loved a little bit more for this book as far as character building. I would love to see maybe a novella in this series. I hoping to see the author up the character building a bit more in the next installment. I think this has a great potential to be a great series. I was very excited when I was approved the ARC via Netgalley. The concept of finding out you are the devils daughter, I mean what!! COME ON!!! What would you do. I would devastated to know I had such evil in my blood. I loved the magic in this world. I really do highly recommend this book. It was a fast read and not heavy.

I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes this book series. I will be watching!!!!

This one's a bit tougher for me to go through. it literally took way to long for me to get into the book. im on the fence about this book, its okay for me but with that said, it didnt blow me away so i cant say that i enjoy it enough to want to pick up the second book. when i started reading the book i thought to myslef this is going to be as amazing kickass book with a badass characters, at first kind. the oremise of this book is interesting and the writing is okay for me, needs more work but not bad for a first book. I just really really struggle to get into the story unfortunately. thats why im giving this a 2.5 stars

I’m trying to figure out what I liked about this book, if I liked anything about it but it’s hard. The blurb was so good I thought the book would be just as interesting but alas, it wasn’t.

At first, the book started out good with an intriguing scene but it went downhill from there. The story took a long-winding road that went on and on in directions that didn’t connect and felt out of place and odd. Instead of meaningful writing that added to the plot-line, the scenes stretched out with information that could have been left out.

Something else that struck me as odd was that the characters felt wooden. There was a depth that was missing as if they were all going through the motions of a play and reciting from the script. The events in the story felt disconnected and there was a love triangle that just felt wrong. This book wasn’t for me but maybe it will suit others better.
