These poems are deceptively simple - uncomplicated in their use of the page, but with layer after layer after layer within them. I love Bola Juju's use of imagery, of mysticism, of truth. Powerful stuff here.

This was okay. I felt like there were some very strong lines and images and ideas present in this poetry, but the way that a lot of the poetry was structured or presented failed to drive those strong points home. It felt like I was reading poetry that was designed to be set under a selfie Instagram post, when the actual material had more depth than that.

I think if Juju can get their great ideas into poetry with a stronger form then we'll really have something to look forward to.

Absolutely amazing debut collection of short and poignant poems that remind of the power there is in courage....self respect and empathy. Bola Juju´s style is open, honest and powerful-so much meaning in so few words-poems of love, strength, courage and personal discovery, I really look forward to more from this talented poet.

Really enjoyed this poetry collection. It was poignant, sensual, raw, real and relatable. The majority of the poems were short, which made it an easy read. Some of my favourites were 'First Kiss', 'Niger Delta Meets Flint', 'Mother Songs', and 'Daily Regimen'.
There were also a few quotes that stuck with me, including; " Breathing was my first revolutionary act, loving myself was my second." Another favourite was,"that's the beauty of believing in yourself, all you need is you."
This collection definitely left an impression.

A beautiful collection of poems, in which most read like affirmations or spells. Definitely recommend for any witch out there.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for sending a copy of this book my way.
This was my first collection of poems ever, so it felt like a good time to read one and to see how I feel with them, so I gave it a chance.
As I imagine happens with many poems, some of them I liked, some of them not so much that´s why the rating stood at the middle. The topics around this collection are womanhood, addictions, traumas, suicides, family and healing ourselves.
Some of the poems were really raw and I felt a little weird reading them, but others brought me so much peace that I think there´s an excellent balance in the book.
I don´t think Im not one to criticize poetry since this was my first book but I do think fans of this genre will really like this book.

I enjoyed reading this beautiful poetry collection, which contained poems on several topics such as womanhood and love. As with most poetry collections, there were some poems I enjoyed more than others, but it is of course my personal taste and doesn't mean the other poems were bad.
