I love young adult mystery thrillers. This one had a lot of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and I loved the mysterious aspect.

SOOO I had a little hard time following this book but that was only because I didn’t read the book in front of this one (shame on me) SO I suggest you read in order.

This sounded like my sort of thing and I was really excited to read it. While I was trying to read this book I was immediately confused. It felt like I was missing something……Well its because there is a book in front of this one. It’s a series….. I did not know that and was not labeled that when I requested to read the book.
I did my best to get through it but can not provide a great review of this book because of it.
I did get a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the first installment in this series and the second book held up to my expectations. It starts right after the first ends, and keeps the story going in a way that is fast paced and enjoyable. This is great for fans of YA mysteries or thrillers. There are some serious topics in this (sexual assault, prostitution), so check out the TW first.

I was pretty excited for this sequel after enjoying the first book so much that I was disappointed when I started losing interest, and it took me about half the book to get into it. I do appreciate that the author seems to. Eva fan of Veronica Mars, and as a librarian, I’ll definitely start recommending theses titles to anyone who is a fan of the show.

This series of books is beyond amazing. I always hear that people prefer to read adult mystery/thrillers because YA just lacks something but let me tell you THESE books don't lack anything!

I started this book last year and just could not get into it. I thought that maybe it was just me. I let some time pass and tried again this week. I still could not get into it. What I did read, I found incredibly boring and I was not interested in the plot whatsoever.

All I can say is that I want more!! I need the next book. My daughter read this one also and she can't stop talking about it. We love these characters and even the underlying romance swirling about. I really hope this turns out the way we want it to.

Wow, I forgot how much I love this series. The whole ‘teen detective’ thing works perfectly, and is in no way cheesy or dumbed down because it is from a female perspective. Everything about this book was perfectly timed and broke down the events that occurred in both the previous book and this one, while still having the consistant need to prove that Kylene’s father is innocent.

This was one heck of a ride. This book picks up right where the last novel ended, so it does flash back to previous events. The characters are more present, and I feel that we get to know some of them a bit better. Garrett is still the sweetest, Agent Dawson is the perfect young FBI agent that I would love to read more about, and AJ is trying to fix everything, and Tabby (my fav Canadian) is still her perky self.

This is fast-paced and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat to find out who is the one hiding the dark secrets. Which, just so you are aware, I didn’t guess at first. After concluding, I am really really hoping for there to be a third book, because it does end on a slight cliffhanger.

If you enjoy thrilling reads that involve a little creep factor that will send chills down your arm, I highly reccomend this!

Keep in mind this is the second book in a series and picks up where the last book left off, with basically no recap so make sure to read them in order.

I know everyone keeps comparing this series to Veronica Mars, but here I go, doing the same thing and comparing the series to one of my absolute favorite shows VM. And I mean that in a good way, in case you were worried. There was a hole in my life without the snoopy, crazy smart and braze VM girl sleuth in my life but Kylene Danners has filled that void perfectly. This series is dark, surprising, dangerous, twisty and basically all things wonderful. If you were looking for a stressful, high tension, edge of you seat read, look no further. I was so wrapped up in this story, completely engaged in Kylene's life, be it her personal drama or the mysteries that she finds herself investigated.

And yep, we have at least two mysteries per book, one that the book looks to tackle and one that runs the backbone of the series that deals with her dad. This is the first series that I have read by this author but I will gladly go buy all the backlist books by this author and binge them since I am now a complete fangirl. There is no current date for a 3rd book but know that when there is one (because there has to be based on this ending- no not a cliffhanger but with lots of loose ends) I will be first in line to get it in my hands and dive head first back to the danger and emotional roller coaster that is this world. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes realistic, gritty mysteries with a fantastic main character as well as detailed and compelling side characters.

Side note, I am team Dawson all the way (AJ is a very nice boy, don't get me wrong). It may not be a thing, but a girl can dream.

I don't always love mystery thrillers in the YA genre, but this one sounded really interesting to me, and I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised! I found the story to be really engaging, and I really enjoyed the characters and character relationships/dynamics. I didn't necessarily find any plot points to be super surprising, but I don't always have to have that in my suspenseful reads. I liked this one a lot!

A good sequel which carries on right where the first book finishes, and still manages to help the reader remember the plot and smaller details without info dumping. There were many twists and turns to the story which kept me hooked and I loved the high school setting, it really worked well with how maturely the characters were written and I would love to read more from the series.

Veronica Mars, I mean Kylene Danners, is back! It took me a lot longer to get into Don't Say a Word than the previous novel, Dare You To Lie, but somewhere at 45% I was suddenly all in. Once the story started clicking in place for me, mixing the overarching story line, the previous novel's plot, and the present's together, I got where things were going. Kylene is no typical high school student and her high school is no typical high school. Sure, there's the jocks and the outcasts and the teachers too into their status, but then there's the girls working in prostitution and an undercover student too. The novel takes place right after the previous, so there's no time jump to adjust to and Amber Lynn Natusch did the suspense lovers right by making her characters continue to recover from the events through out this novel. Thank you. Kylene is banged up, mentally scarred, and just as determined as ever. She continues to be stubborn, witty, and quite the smart A, but she sure is an entertaining character.

In Don't Say a Word Kylene has to finally switch back into her role as student, daughter, granddaughter, and friend. Of course, no one can stop her from helping Agent Dawson out on his case so the secrets, sneaking around, and crime solving continues on. Drug issues are a thing of a past, now they're taking on prostitution and Kylene's name just might be at the top of the list. It's twisted, fast-paced, and yet still has just the right amount of high school drama. We get some more details on her father's case as well, just enough to keep us hanging until the next release though.

Amber Lynn Natusch's Hometown Antihero series is the perfect mystery suspense series for NA readers. It's what I would have liked in high school and college, and it definitely continues to fit the bill for me in my late twenties. It's got the right amount of humor, age appropriate drama, and all the suspense a young Nancy Drew could want.

I started reading this right around the time Veronica Mars started making a come back. Thankfully it was the perfect book to read along with re-watching the series.

Full of teen angst, friendship and crime solving adventures this is definitly a book for those ya fans who are tired of the same old story line.

I think my favorite part of this book had to be how realistic the emotion behind some of the characters were. They don't shake off some tramatizing events, they don't paste on a smile and go back to there regular lives, they struggled with the events of the first book. It was not going back to sunny street's and daisy crowns, much like a real life problem would.

This is seriously a series to read in the winter months when you are stuck indoors and in need of a book to keep you up as you try to solve things out.

Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I found this to be a bit unbelievable. I don’t believe that a FBI agent can go undercover at a HS as her ex, even if he is a rookie. It was a bit boring, picked up towards the end but by then the book was ruined for me

I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

unofrtunately, I didn't read the first book in the series, so it was a bit confusing at times.
based on that, i feel like i can't give it a honest review.

This book was compelling, it's helpful if you have read the others in the series, but it is still a great read

Don't Say a Word is the second in a series. You definitely need to read the first book in the series in order to understand what is going on in Don't Say a Word. This book takes off right where the first one left off and jumps right into action. The characters are likable and the mystery is well written. I am hoping that there is a third book in the series and am looking forward to checking out more books by Amber Lynn Natusch.
