I could not put this book down.

The House on Camp Ruby Road is well-written with characters you are going to want to get to know better.
Meet Eden who has inherited an old southern home deep in the woods after her mother's death. The problem is that no one seems to know who left her the house or why.

She finally decides it's time to figure out the mystery only to find an old woman living there with secrets of her own and oh did I forget to mention ghosts?

A great read!

The atmosphere of this book was terrific, although difficult at times because of the era. The story has a folksy quality with a ghost or two, racial and regional tensions, and characters that interact to reveal family mysteries that keep you in suspense.

This is a creative and well detailed story. Even though the book started slow it did pick up. I felt as it started it was detailed allowing the reader to get to know the main character very well and feel all the emotions with her. Based in a Texas town this fictional story centers around Eden Devereaux. She is left a house in a place she doesn't feel welcome. It is mysterious and the house still has a resident, an interesting elderly woman. You'll find mysteries, ghosts, danger, secrets and perhaps a hit of romance in this book. You'll also get something else as the characters deal with the problems of treating others with hate and kindness. It is more than just how she is treated because of where she is from since it talks about status due to money and much more too. Readers find themselves wanting to solve the mystery too and eager to learn more about this House on Camp Ruby Road. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This is the first book in a new Ghosts of the Big Thicket series. This book was a slow starter for me, I found the main character, Eden interesting and I loved Miss Alma right from the first time we meet her; but I found the first third of the book slow and hard to get into, but then the book turned around and I loved it. It made me laugh, it made me angry and upset and it made me cry and then it made me smile. There are several love stories entwined throughout this book and all were hauntingly beautiful.

I am so glad I stuck with this book, it left a lasting impression with me. I will definitely be looking for the next installment of this series.

I liked this story. It is book 1 in the new series, Ghosts of the Big Thicket. Set in Texas where old prejudice never die, but live on. Eden leaves college to return to clear up her Mother's estate and finds a home that needs her and people who want her to stay. Young Eden never thought she'd find love during her visit but life is funny and among the greed, mystery and romance she thrives. Set in the mid-1960's the story is interesting and eye opening. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The House on Camp Ruby Road by Twyla Ellis is different from what I normally read. Being set in the 60's,, I wasn't sure if I would care for it but, I am so glad I decided to step off the curb and try something new!
From the beginning you are drawn into the story and once Eden goes to Camp Ruby Rd, the house wraps itself around you and you don't want to leave.
I fell in love with the main characters and the setting. Ellis has you feeling you are there in the thicket. You get mystery, romance, family, drama, history, life, and a bit of paranormal. I did not want to put it down.
I was given an ARC by Netgalley for an honest review.

i actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.
Yes, it was predictable but in the very best way. The villain was clear from the outset and, although there was mention of previous heroines, it didn't matter that I hadn't read the previous books in the series.
I did call the majority of the "big reveals" before they happened but it didn't take away my enjoyment and I still couldn't put it down.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A first read my me from this Author. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. Positively exciting and page turning book. There is so much in this book! It’s historical romance, Mystery, and Paranormal suspense all wrapped in one! Kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Eden will truly find out the mystery of her past and not loose herself in the painful process. I adored it! Very different in a great way! Highly recommend!

A story from the era that tests your mantle with its racist, hatred and abusive tangles. But it also had a love story that touches the heart, one not just with a guy and a girl, but with a house, its occupants and the tales they reveal. Here Eden wanted to know why she was the recipient of the house on Camp Ruby Road. What she found opened her mind and her heart to the land, the house and also to Miss Alma who is truly a character, a keeper of secrets and promises.
Eden learned the truth about her true birth, but it changes nothing it just made her love her Mum Betty even more. She never expected to love another but she soon learned she is not the keeper of her destiny. A beautiful and engaging tale with great characters and an awesome storyline.

This sprawling novel had characters I fell in love with, a Texas town that felt inviting and a house that felt like home. Long buried secrets were revealed, a mystery solved & a perfect ending achieved. 4 stars!!

Thank you, Netgalley!

Fun, fast moving read with the predictable character to dislike and main characters you want to see more of. Looking forward to the second and successive books in the series.

An old house, secrets, and ghosts. Throw in a little romance and you have a great read! Eden inherits an old house but there are so many secrets attached. This story takes place in 1963 and has so many elements that make it a page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and look forward to book #2. Thanks to Zimbell House Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The House on Camp Ruby Road by Twyla Ellis. Zimbell House Publishing, 2019. Ghost of the Big Thicket Book 1.

After her mother’s death, Eden takes a break from university study and from her high school sweetheart to travel to Deep East Texas to an estate inherited from an unknown benefactor. Despite feelings of déjà vu and finding her house occupied, she settles in, hoping to find out something about her family.

Set in 1963 just outside the Big Thicket (where law seems just a rumour), this beautifully written, unique page-turner is unexpectedly wonderful. There are strong, consistent characters to love or hate, a star-crossed romance, a Buster-Billie romance, period racism, domestic abuse with perpetrators that would have been at home in deliverance, and cameo appearances by a helpful ghost.

I liked everything about this book. I could see this as a movie or tv series.
