Unfortunately, I found this book very difficult to get through, and I did not finish. The writing is well done, and the topic and research are sound, but the book just was not to my taste, and felt a bit tedious. This book would be more interesting to someone interested more in perhaps a clinical-based application of the topic, such as in counseling or therapy. I will not be posting my review on Goodreads or my blog, as I know this opinion is simply preference-based.

Super important and well written. I am a believer in a step at a time and Malchik recognizes and explains just how important that first step is.

Antonia Malchik takes a broad-based look at the human act of walking, its appeal, its health benefits, and the many ways in which our society has blocked its accessibility. Touching on everything from Black Lives Matter to the PTSD of war veterans, the growth of a car culture to developments in prosthetics, Malchik’s scope is wide.

For anyone who needs to be convinced that walking matters, and that activists in any field should be concerned about protecting their right to walk, this book is a call to action.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Walking Life caught my attention because I was interested by Wanderlust by Rebecca Solnit. It is an exploration of walking, the physical and the symbolic aspects of it, and the way walking affects our bodies as well as our minds (walking to find peace, walking to create). I am a firm believer in finding more time for walking in our increasingly busy world.

Although the book was very well written and clearly well-researched, I had a hard time getting to the end and found myself skimming quite a bit. I'm not going to review it on my blog because I only like to make positive recommendations there.
