I was unaware that this was the second book in a series but I do think it can read as a standalone.

Maxwell Cho, an FBI agent and his dog Kona are hiking through the Shenandoah mountains when Kona alerts for a body. As Maxwell investigates he tumbles into a sinkhole filled with the disarticulated bones of skeletons.

Sayer Altair, an FBI neuroscientist, arrives to assist with the case. The FBI is completely short-staffed and in disarray, the Director having to attend Congressional hearings into previous, heinous oversights at the FBI ( I won't say more it will spoil the first book). While processing the bones, Sayer stumbles on the remains of two more bodies, much fresher bodies! Is there a connection between the old killings and the new ones?

There is an enjoyable cast to assist her, including Cho and Kona, Piper the forest ranger, the FBI pathologist, the gruff small-town police chief and an old colleague of hers. There was enough action and twists in the tale to keep it exciting, although my favourite contribution definitely came from Subject 037. He is one of the anonymous psychopaths she is studying and he appears to have an obsession with her and her work. How is he able to assist her in the manner that he does? Who is he and what sort of power does he yield?

I am eager to read the next in the series to discover the tale of Subject 037.

Thank you #Netgalley and #StMartin'sPress for the advanced copy of #Buried in exchange for my honest review.

Senior Special Agent Sayer Altair has recovered, at least physically, from the last missing persons case. And her return assignment is a doozy. A mass grave, an ancient sword and 2 fresh bodies make for quite the case. Due to political issues she doesn't have a task force so she pieces together a team, but can they be trusted?

This book, like Caged, is dark but so good. It's got a science, a serial killer and characters you care about....for me, the perfect recipe for a thriller.

If you've read #Caged by #EllisonCooper you need to read this now. If you haven't, you need to read #Caged now (especially if you love thrillers) and then pick up #Buried as soon as possible. Do it.

I'm really hoping we get a third Sayer Altair novel. We need to find out what happened to Jake and who is Subject 037. I'm such a fan of this series.

Thank you to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for an advanced reader's copy of #Buried by #EllisonCooper.

At the end ,all I wanted to know was who was subject 037.

I liked this book, it follows one I read here on Netgalley a while ago.
Agent Sayer, recovering from physical. emotional and legal issues from a previous case, suffering the mysterious loss by murder of her fiance, she is drawn into a case that has all sorts of confusing and misleading clues.

Gathered around her are some amazing support, and the usual local officials, with strengths and weaknesses. They help her with the breakneck pace of tracing the victims and suspects.

While I sorta figured out who it could have been, the chase was pretty exciting.
The capacity of this woman to tolerate physical pain is pretty remarkable.

Can't wait to read the next one.....

Complicated and interesting, this novel will keep you reading with its fast pace and constant new information. I really liked the team although max could've been developed a bit more.

Senior Special Agent Sayer Altair studies the minds of psychopaths. But even she didn't expect to uncover a killer within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Rooting him out and exposing internal corruption got her a bullet wound and six months of desk duty. Now, she’s finally back in the field, called in when an off-duty FBI agent and his cadaver dog fall into a sinkhole

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book it was a great experience first time reading anything from this author

Wow! Grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go until the conclusion. Sayer is a perfectly badass and yet vulnerable heroine. The rest of the characters are interesting and compelling. The plot is full of twists that keep you guessing. The ongoing mystery of the series is being revealed at the perfect pace. I can't wait for the next book.

No matter how I review this book the review will not do this book justice. When I read Caged and absolutely loved it I was hoping the next in the series would be just as outstanding and I was not disappointed. Agent Sayer is back and involved in another mystery of this time bones and lot of them! Max falls into a sinkhole with tons of bones buried and this starts this thrilling read on a very spellbinding ride! I would say I would highly recommend this book and actually both books in the series but I would rather say if you don't read this book and you love suspense you will be very disappointed you missed this book. This author just grabs you into the story and before you know it your reading into the night just to finish ! Sayer is such a great female character that is hard not to root for her and want her to catch the bad guys. If I could give this book more stars I would you have to read!!!

This is such a good mystery I loved the main character and the setting and felt the plot was fast paced and kept you guessing till the end . It reminded me of the books I love from Lisa Gardner and Carrie Stuart Parks.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book

'Buried' by Ellison Cooper is an entertaining read. The author cleverly has her heroes swim through a sea of red herrings before the inevitable showdown. It also successfully plants the seeds for the next book as readers are left wanting to know the identity of the wizard of psycho who has interjected himself into the life of our heroine. Finally, as an alumnus of UVA, I enjoyed the fact most of the action took place in the Charlottesville, Virginia area. It is nice to find a good book set in locales you're familiar with.

Buried by Ellison Cooper was an excellent follow up to Caged—the second outing of Agent Sayer Altair did not disappoint!
This was a great story that kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing til the end. I really enjoyed the strong female lead who is badass but vulnerable enough to be believable. A few characters from the last book returned, and we get to meet some new ones too. Though this could definitely be read as a stand-alone, reading them in order will give you a better understanding of the main characters’ back stories.
Highly recommend for a fast, suspenseful read.

As soon as I started reading this book I knew I found an amazing and unique storyline. This book took me to the edge and back several times. I knew that Sayer was going to be one of my new favorites in the writing world. What happens when a Senior special agent of the FBI who interviews psychopaths finds out that her anonymous interviewee wants to continue the relationship, and he has the power to do so and possible can hep her what is one to do? This book is full of questions, answers, surprises …..one after another and amazing characters. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book and share my thoughts. I am ready to read the next one.

After nearly being killed when her last assignment put her in the line of sight of a fellow FBI agent who was also a killer, Sayer Altair is back in the field. A hole filled with human remains has been found in Shenandoah National Park and the bones date back to the time a teenager disappeared. But it would appear the body dump site is still active because Sayer and her team find the bodies of two more recent kills among the skeletal remains. Remains that may have a connection to a woman and child recently abducted, a connection Sayer must unravel if she wants to save them. Help comes from a most unlikely source, Subject 037, one of the psychopaths Sayer has been interviewing. This incredibly well written nail biter borrows a page from the real life detectives who used serial killer Ted Bundy to help solve real murder cases.
