I found the first 60% of the book to move very slowly. It could have been tightened a bit because the rest of the book was great. I didn't see the ending coming. It was truly a surprise reveal.

Mofina once again explores how family secrets and lies can tear things appear. Maddie is missing and her parents Karen and Ryan must resolve multiple issues of their own as they search for her. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. A good read.

This was good although I didn't like any of the characters but still entertaining, a little bit long and the last twist was a little too much and unbelievable I don't get how some people got away with it so easily when they did so much damage and I'd prefer to see how things went after everything was resolved like 6 months or a year after.

This book sends you on a rollercoaster of twists and turns.
I could not put the book down!!!

The book is about the disappearance of a girl after she argues with her mother. It is centred on why she ran away and what the young girl's family life is leading to many secrets being disclosed.

the book is worth a read! go buy it!

Once again this author has ROCKED my world. At no point did I have any desire to put this book down. The only thing that kept me from reading 24 hours a day was sheer exhaustion.

Mr. Mofina is fantastic at weaving a web in a way that you never see the spider till it’s too late. In my case it was near moments, simply a few pages before the reveal that I realized who did what. I was bodyslammed by this book.

I am not known for five star ratings it takes a very special kind a book to earn that fifth star but this one did as did the last book I read by him titled Search for Her. I am more than 200 books behind on my NetGalley TBR pile and a handful of reviews I haven’t typed up but I couldn’t wait till I could sit and do this one. I’m now on the hunt to gobble up everything that Rick Mofina has written.

I recommend this book 100%. I wish I could tell you more than just that you’ll get attached to every character, with the exception of two. Or that the story is so full and rich that when you’re done you are completely spent but eager for another. I wish I could give you niblets of the story but I’m too afraid I’ll give something away. So just READ IT! NOW! GO! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Big thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this.

People think they know people. They don't. You never know what's in a person's heart. What they're hiding, what they're capable of when they're trapped in a bad situation and see no way out. Their first instinct is to lie and most of them do.

Your worst nightmare comes true. You come home after an evening out, pay the babysitter, say goodnight to your son and daughter and wake up to a nightmare. Your daughter is missing. She is twelve years old but looks 16. She wants to date and argues with her parents on the firm no. With each passing day, the chances of seeing her alive become slim. What goes thru your mind? Why does the investigation include your past and how that wreaks havoc in your relationships, your job, your community.

It has been a couple of days since I had finished this and I have to say reflecting , I would probably gives this a solid 4. The investigation probe is pretty detailed and how it plays with the Lane family. Each family member is suspect and they are not looking good. Many rabbit trails that lead to what really happened. The first part of the book is heavy on what takes place after a crime like this and then 4 years later a development changes everything and the family goes thru yet another loss. Rick Mofina is one of my favorites so you may want to see for yourself why he is so good.

A special thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Missing Daughter by Rick Mofina is an intense story full of twists and turns.

Life can change in an instant. For Ryan and Karen Lane, it happens on the morning they discover their twelve-year-old daughter’s window open, their beloved Maddie missing from her bed.

Years go by and still no answers,

The family feel Maddy is gone forever until a stunning twist shocks everyone, plunging the family deeper into a world of buried secrets whose revelations threaten the very foundation of their lives.

This is definitely the kind of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and flipping through the pages as fast as you can to reach the end.

Highly recommend.

Story progression felt slow but fast with so many things going on at once. I stayed up late reading this as I just HAD to know what happens. I was skeptical to begin with, as I thought it would be a classic crime thriller abduction case. But it was so much more! Not as clean cut as I expected with soo many suspects. The beginning portion was hard to get my head around all of the characters as there are so many, but once you get into it and it starts to fit together, it is ADDICTIVE. What a rollercoaster! And a great twist at the end. I definitely had suspicions but nothing quite like the reality of the story!

RATING: 4 STARS
2019; Harlequin/Mira

One morning parents, Ryan and Karen Lane find that their twelve year old daughter's window is open and she is missing. While everyone tries to locate her, and suspects are looked at, the case goes unsolved. Soon time goes by, and it has been years since she went missing, and suddenly new secrets are revealed. This novel was a bit long, but I did enjoy the story - as scary and unsettling as missing children stories are.

***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***

Missing Daughter by Rick Mofina is a 2019 MIRA publication.

I’m trying to get back to some of my pre-pandemic reading goals, one of which was to sample work from authors I have never read before. Rick Mofina is a name I’ve seen circulating amongst my Goodreads friends in the mystery/thriller category for a long while. I have a handful of his books on my Kindle, but I never have gotten around to reading any of them.

I was drawn to the title of this one because, although missing person’s cases are hardly original, there is something so utterly unsettling about someone simply vanishing into thin air, it sucks me in every time.

This book was no exception. When twelve-year-old Maddie disappears during the night, swift suspicion falls on her family:

Her mother, Karen has a tragic past, and a newly contentious relationship with her daughter. Ryan, her father, who is occasionally hot-headed and is under a lot of strain, and her older brother, Tyler, who claims to have heard voices in her room the night she disappeared.

The investigation, like most missing persons cases, is hot in the beginning, but it eventually goes cold. Years pass. Then a staggering turn of events stuns everyone…

Suddenly, shocking secrets float to the surface. Will these revelations finally lead to the truth about Maddie’s disappearance?

This turned out to be a fantastic novel of suspense, complimented by terrific characterizations, and even, well-timed pacing. It held my attention from start to finish, not only with the guessing game, but with the realistic depictions of police interrogations and the emotional strain of a family stuck in a never- ending nightmare. It’s an emotional and absorbing novel, with some huge surprises I ever could have seen coming.

Overall, I am pleased with my first impression of this author and am glad I finally got around to reading one of his books. It goes without saying, I will be reading more of them in the future.

Suspenseful and twisty. This is how I describe"The Missing Daughter". I realy enjoyed reading this book and loved Rick Mofina's writing.

The Missing Daughter focuses on the complex investigation of the case of Maddie Lane, a 12 years girl, who disapeared one night from home without leaving trace after arguing with her mother.

Overall, the book includes 2 big parts. I personnally liked the second one which started around 40% of the reading. I did not like the first part which focused on the Maddie vanishing context and the preliminary police investigation. I hated how detectives in charge of the investigation have behaved with Maddie's family members and how they tried to involve them in her disapearence. The story is really freaking for parents who would like to read this novel. There were more twists in the second part and it was really difficult to guess how the story is going to end.

Characters were really well designed. As for me, I liked Detectives Zubek and Acher in the second part of the book for their obstinacy and perseverance as they never gave up to track down leads in order to get back Maddie at home.

I highly recommend this book.

My rate is a very good 4*.

Maddie is twelve years old and launching a furious campaign to be allowed to date boys. But her mom, Karen, isn't willing. Older brother Tyler, and dad Ryan, have heard the arguing and hateful comments Maddie hurls at her mom, when yet again, her mother refuses to back down. Ryan is experiencing some serious financial difficulties with his drywall business and Karen has her own painful past to deal with. One night, after a dinner out by themselves, Ryan and Karen become part of a group no parent ever wants to belong to. When Tyler goes to wake Maddie up for breakfast the following morning, she has vanished. There are traces of mud in her empty room, and a ladder on the ground below her bedroom window.

This is a truly excellent thriller, and while there are many novels about abducted children, this is a major standout in the field. This very well written and polished book held my attention the whole way through. Just when I thought we'd reached the inevitable conclusion, the author, Mr. Mofina, woke me right up with an ending I would never have seen coming. Very strongly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author Rick Mofina, and the publisher Harlequin-Mira, for the wonderful opportunity to read an ARC of this outstanding and memorable book. This is my honest opinion.

The Missing Daughter centers around a family broken by the sudden disappearance of their pre-teen daughter. Rick Mofina has written an amazing story line with characters so well defined you are surprised when they do not follow that well travelled path. As the family tries to pull together, the evidence leaves them unsure who to trust. As I read, I was sure I knew what happened, only to change my mind in the next chapter. It's not often an author can completely surprise me with an ending, the last one was Big Little Lies, but this story surely does.

I loved this book!!! i'm a huge fan of Rick Mofina and read almost all of the author's books. This was a breath of fresh air, because it didn't follow his usual format of missing person, crazy terrorist plot and under dog journalist who usually solves the crime (nothing wrong with those books because I enjoyed reading them.)There were so many twists and turns. i never guessed who was involved or the ending. I felt horrible for Ryan, Karen and Tyler. The police were determined that they were the culprits behind Maddie's disappearance. They did look like likely suspects. I had no idea who was behind everything until it was finally revealed and I was SHOCKED. Jack Gannon even makes an appearance (a very brief one.) Loved the story, characters and writing style. I was hooked from the the very beginning and couldn't put it down because I needed to find out what happened to Maddie.

Definitely recommend the book. This is one of my favorite books by the author. It was captivating and was a great mystery/suspense. I can't wait to read more!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from HARLEQUIN - MIRA (U.S. and Canada) through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

5 stars.

Wow. Ohh. Wow!!!

Seriously LOVED THIS!!! If you chose to read only one Crime, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense type book this year then this HAS to be the one!

Ok. I gotta admit. When I saw that this book was 512 pages, it made me have second thoughts as I don't like large ebooks (but I do LOVE paperbacks of the extremely thick type) but I thought I'd give it a go because it sounds good and I thought that I might enjoy it so much the size wouldn't bother me. Ohh wow am I glad I thought that because I flew through this!!

I lost count of the amount of turns this book dished out. What happened to Maddie? The whole time I only had a couple ideas but, yeah, I was so off. This book literally sent me into a cyclone of emotions. I actually cried at one stage and that almost NEVER happens for me with books. Yeah I can get sad feelings and happy feelings on the edge of actual tears but not many get the kind that roll down my face and grabbing for the tissues.

What happened to Maddie? What actually happened! The book gives you many suitable reasons to suspect a range of characters. But never a firm answer until the end. And omg what an end! Talk about speed reading because people we were FINALLY told the truth. The real truth. And wow. It did not disappoint at all. I started to worry the ending would be a disappointment and I was getting a little nervous for it. That it would be a let down after the rest of the book being a clear 5 stars. BUT then we as the reader are thrown yet again into another twist and that ending I was getting nervous for, stood up to be worthy of all those 5 gold stars!

This is not a book that I will ever forget. It's one that will stay with me until I'm 100 and I'll be all, "what's that book called that was about a girl named Maddie" (of course I won't forget the name of it but, hey, im 100 years old, I forget things for a moment).

I seriously strongly recommend this to everyone who loves a good Mystery Thriller story. You wont regret it.
