I enjoyed this book, it was a quick read with plenty of twists and kept pulling you in to find out what actually happened. It was one of those books that you want to read into the night to figure out what happened and who done it.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Missing Daughter by Rick Mofina that I read and reviewed.
This book was pretty good if you are into books that are full of police procedure and have some twist and turns that will leave the reader going “Where did that come from”?
Overall, I enjoyed this book even though parts of it were a by the book cop book where it is the fault of the parents and no one else is going to be the bad guy and that kind of got on my my nerves. I thought the book did drag on in areas and some things got dragged on over and over and that bogged the book down and that is why I rated it the way I did but it is worth reading.
I am giving Missing Daughter four out of five stars.

I quite enjoyed this book and I decided to give it 3.75/5 stars because I felt that some of the elements in this book just lacked feeling/emotion or they were a bit "stereotypical" if you get my drift. It is basically the story of a young girl who has gone missing from her bedroom one night and the search to find her over four years. It also follows her parent's lives, the things they lived in their pasts, also from her uncle, aunt and cousin; we also see other points of views like friends and police officers. Some things which were happening didn't go to that high emotional place I thought they would but I really appreciated the different plot twists and I really was clueless until the last two chapters. So, frankly the execution of the plot and the development of the story was very good, the characters and or emotional environment was just a bit lacking but it was definitely a good read and it wasn't too heavy a subject so that was really good ! This book is different from other mysteries/thrillers I have read in the past because it went in much more depth around the other characters' pasts (like the different members of the family) and I don't think that I see enough of that in other books and I appreciated it here because it helped fill in the "contextual" gaps. However, this book was just a tad long, at times I was wondering how long I had to read but other times I flew through multiple chapters in minutes so I think that some chapters were more interesting than others. I can't wait to read more from this author !

I absolutely loved missing daughter! So many twist and turns I literally could not put this book down because I was dying to know what happened to Maddie. This is a book that makes you think you know what happened but you are totally wrong, you will not know till the very end what really happened and the shock will kill you !

The Lanes seem like a normal family. Ryan is struggling running his late father's business. Things are tough financially and Ryan is stressed about it. Karen is working extra shifts as a cashier at the grocery store to bring in extra money. Their son, Tyler, is a typical 13-year-old teenager and their daughter, Maddie, is 12 going on 21 ... she wants to start dating, something that her mother has refused to let her do, so they fight often about it.

One morning, the family discovers Maddie is missing. Tyler had heard voices in her room in the middle of the night but assumed Maddie was talking to one of her friends on her cell phone. Mud is found on the carpet near Maddie's bedroom window and a ladder is discovered under the window. Ryan and Karen immediately call the police and the investigation begins.

The police interview everyone ... family, friends, the residents of a halfway house on the other side of the woods, neighbours, even the pizza delivery guy. No one knows anything and the police feel that her family are involved so never let off the pressure. Years go by until the family and police finally discover what happened to her.

I've read a few books by this author and liked this one. It is written in third personal perspective with the focus on wherever the action is. There were lots of twists and turns with possible "whodunnits. Just when I thought we found out "whodunnit" and the story was over, there was a final twist. There was a revelation at the end that I didn't think wasn't necessary or needed. As a head's up, there is swearing.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Really excellent! This is the first novel I’ve read by Rick Mofina. It’s a police procedural about a missing girl. She disappears one night from her bedroom, and while they are trying to find out what happened to her, it becomes apparent that everyone in the family had secrets that they’re keeping. I enjoyed it very much and will be looking for more of Mofina’s books.

Life can change in an instant. For Ryan and Karen Lane, it happens on the morning they discover their twelve-year-old daughter’s window open, their beloved Maddie missing from her bed. Police investigate. Suspicions swirl. A teenage boy admits he was outside her bedroom window the night she disappeared. A halfway house for convicts recently opened in the neighborhood. The Lane family is thrown into turmoil, then detectives turn their sights on them.

Days, weeks, months, then agonizing years go by without answers, the Lanes fearing that Maddie is gone forever…until a stunning twist shocks everyone, plunging the family deeper into a world of buried secrets whose revelations threaten the very foundation of their lives.

I was not expecting this book to turn out the way it did! This was such an emotional ride, it definitely had some heartbreaking and gut-wrenching moments. Great thriller that keeps you guessing the entire time!

What a thrill ride!

I enjoy author Mofina's writing style. He definitely knows how to keep a story moving along.

In this fast-pace tale, every parent's worst nightmare comes to pass. Ryan and Karen Lane live in Syracuse, New York. Ryan is trying to keep his floundering drywall business afloat and Karen is a checker at a local grocery store. They have a 13 year old son, Tyler, and a 12 year old daughter, Maddie.

One night they go out for a date night and after everyone is in bed, someone creeps into Maddie's bedroom and now she's missing.

This is a terrible story of a family's anguish as the days go by with no news.

There are more twists and turns in this story than I think I've read in one book before. It is convoluted and tricky and addictive.

One thing I really came away with was how law enforcement just about tore this family apart with their suspicions. They were relentless. Yes, I know the family are usually the likely suspects but come on, this was a lot overboard imho.

I received this book from MIRA Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin/MIRA for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review of this book. I was drawn into this book from the first pages, and that continued through the rest of the book. What happened to a 12 year old in the middle of the night? Did she leave on here own? Was she kidnapped? Everyone has something to hide here, and the characters are well developed, in that, during the story, I could see what some of the characters were acting in the manner they did. Some I liked, some I couldn't stand. There was one plot piece, which I won't give away, that I felt was a stretch, but it didn't ruin the rest of the plot for me. I recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin - Mira for the eARC.
Maddie is missing, her parents are devastated and believe someone took her from her bedroom. There's a heavy police presence at their home in Syracuse, NY as well as many neighbors and friends, all of them desperately searching for the 12-year old girl.
There were great reviews for this book and I was really looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately I couldn't get into it, it felt familiar and repetitive and I was bored until the ending, which was a surprise. I found none of the characters likeable and there were parts that didn't feel realistic at all. That said, all the excellent reviews show I'm in the minority here, sorry!

Description
Families with nothing to hide don’t have so many secrets

Life can change in an instant. For Ryan and Karen Lane, it happens on the morning they discover their twelve-year-old daughter’s window open, their beloved Maddie missing from her bed.

Police investigate. Suspicions swirl. A teenage boy admits he was outside her bedroom window the night she disappeared. A halfway house for convicts recently opened in the neighborhood. The Lane family is thrown into turmoil, then detectives turn their sights on them.

No one is ruled out. Not Karen, with her tragic past, who argued with her daughter. Not Ryan, with his violent streak. Not Maddie’s thirteen-year-old brother, Tyler, who heard voices in her room the night she vanished.

Days, weeks, months, then agonizing years go by without answers, the Lanes fearing that Maddie is gone forever…until a stunning twist shocks everyone, plunging the family deeper into a world of buried secrets whose revelations threaten the very foundation of their lives.

So many twist and turns. The whole family is suspect. It kept you wondering to the end. It is a whirlwind of a book.

This book was really good. It tells the story of Maddison Lane a 12 year old who disappears from her bedroom with no trace. You start by seeing how the family is affected as well as suspected. No one has any clue what happened to her and if they know they aren't saying. There is a cloud over the family. The first part is mainly the detectives trying to find out what happened. Fast forward to four years later, Maddie is found in Florida after a hurricane and they think all is well. There are a few twists and turns toward the end of the book and it picked up a faster pace than the beginning which I enjoyed. Overall, I didn't see the end coming which was a surprise for me. I will definitely read more by the author.

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare, a child gone missing.Maddie disappears overnight from her own room. Her parents, Karen and Ryan find her bedroom open and their twelve-year-old daughter gone. There is no shortage of suspects with a new halfway house just around the corner and police aren’t willing to rule out Maddie’s family, her thirteen year old brother, the sometimes violent Ryan and Karen, a woman with a very unhappy past. As the search and investigation drags on with no resolution and the months become years, everyone assumes Maddie is dead. No one is prepared for the answers that finally surface. Mofina spins quite a tale, one that shows how little we really know the people we love

I don't normally read stories about missing children but decided on this one. What an impressive story of not only the missing daughter but the rest of the family. Then there are those who showed the slightest chance of being involved in Maddie's abduction. This kind of thing has ramifications that last for the whole family. It is a story that maybe a teenager should read also to understand the reason mom and dad say 'no' to their wants when they are too young to understand.

I liked the cover so I say I’ll give it a whirl and I’m really glad I did, it was intense from the get-go until the end, it’s pages had a vice grip hold on you, there was no way to leave until you turned the last one. This has been a thrilling and intriguing tale that resonates your heartstrings. A truly gripping and captivated tale filled with twists and turns. I love it.
