I love disaster movies and disaster books. Since this is about a man whose band perished in a hurricane, I thought I was getting a disaster story. I was wrong; the hurricane happens toward the beginning and there are few details about it.

The romance was ok, and the characters grew on me. I think I was so disappointed by the lack of survival scenes etc that I never quite got into the book.

This steamy contemporary romance novella is a delightful way to pass an evening or afternoon. Fifth in a series based around the aftereffects of a hurricane in Bali which shakes up the lives of eight hunky tourists, each story is written by a different author. In this episode, Quinn, the lead singer of a popular rock band, leaves a video shoot on the beach early to attend a family funeral. The hurricane arrives while he’s gone, decimating the island and killing his bandmates. Since then, his life’s been a grind of publicity appearances with surgically enhanced “pop princesses” as he honors his contractual obligations and the memory of his lost friends. Unable to face another awards ceremony, he ducks into a Manhattan dive bar and meets bartender Phoebe, an aspiring rock star, who pretends not to recognize her idol. Blown away by her band’s performance and then by her kiss, things get rolling. Well-written steamy love scenes, believable conflict, well-rounded characters, and a very satisfying ending. I’ll definitely read more by this author.

This is a short stand-alone novella, which is part of a series where the other books are related, but you don't have to read them all. Rather than containing characters that appear in each book, the idea here is that an event leads to the storyline for each one. In this case, it is a cyclone which has an impact on the various heroes of the stories. Quinn's Resolution tells the story of an up and coming rock star; Quinn MacDonald. He doesn't actually experience the cyclone himself, having had to return to the US for a family funeral. His band members are caught in the natural disaster and much of this storyline focuses on him dealing with the aftermath of this.
I liked the fact that the story wasn't directly about someone who was involved in the storm but rather focused on how it might impact those who were involved less directly or left behind. It was also interesting to see how the record company dealt with Quinn after everything had changed.
I liked him and Phoebe as a couple and there was plenty of chemistry to their romance. This was a good quick read. If there was anything that leads to it getting a slightly lower star score than it might otherwise have had, then it was that it was a bit short. I don't mind novellas, but things seemed to jump forward once or twice in this. It didn't really matter, but it did mean that we didn't see the development or growth of a character or relationship that would have resulted in a longer book.
Overall this was a good read. I'd be interested to read others in the series to see how they dealt with the cyclone and its effects.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

I thought he was a good character and the story was moving, but the beginning was so busy and complicated, it was hard to connect with him. And then she appeared out of the blue. I felt the emotion caught up with the story towards the end rather than being richly part of the story.

There were just so many errors about the UK part of the story that a simple google search would fix, I think that doesn’t say much about the author and her feeling for her readers. And for a book set in 2016 the author had very limited understanding of the whole social scene. Again that’s kind of disrespectful to her readers, that’s the point of google and author research.

I gave an extra star because the story was interesting and the characters likeable.

Quinn MacDonald and his band, the Dead Ball Line, were performing in Bali when he was called home for the funeral of one of his cousins. While home, he hears about Hurricane Nina that is due to strike the island…hoping for the safety of his band mates. When the entire band is killed in the collapse of the building, he is devastated. Suddenly, due to their tragic loss, the band’s music begins to hit the charts and although under contract, Quinn no longer feels the music. Feeling lost and missing his mates, he meets Phoebe Snow, a bartender at the Filthy Quarter. Phoebe plays in the NBT (Next Big Thing) Band at the bar and Quinn is impressed with their music and her singing. He finally begins to feel that his music is not lost as his attraction to Phoebe continues to grow. To me, this story is about hope and the return to life in the face of adversity and devastation. Quinn has the support of Phoebe and his family to find his way back to his love of music. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

AFTER HURRICANE NINA: QUINN'S RESOLUTION by Katie O'Sullivan is a great short story! I loved Quinn and really felt for him. A tragedy follow by an uncaring record company.
I can't wait for the next story!
