I was very disappointed in this book, to the extent that I did not finish it. The premise of the book was what drew me too it as I’m not usually interested in crime books, however, it jumped back and forward too many times to keep my interest.

A quick, fast-paced at times read with a few twist and turns that were very predictable.
As a mother, i can relate to all the feelings that are described in the story.
I liked that we get both pov as it's interesting to know the story from both parts as to how each one sees everything that happens.
What i didn't like is the reference to the church that is a bit overused here and it makes me think that maybe this story is more Christian read than what it's presented (no judging here, just a thought), and the fact that is treated in the thriller category which in my opinion is not or has very few resemblances to it.

Interesting story and was easy to get into for me. The plot was fast paced, I really enjoyed the multiple POV and I would recommend this book. First book by this author and will look into other titles.

Women’s fiction really, this one.

This was decent, good writing and characters. Did they do stupid things sometimes? Yes, no doubt, but overall they were quite likable.

I didn’t feel any real suspense throughout this story even when Emma goes missing. There is a lot going on here and not all of it is pertinent or gets wrapped up by the conclusion which was fitting and realistic (though not overly exciting or “thriller like”).

The portrayal of a smart but naive kid facing the struggles of the first year of college and being away from home were captured well and realistically. The strong relationship bond of this (widowed) mother and daughter was also touching. These are really the draws to hunker down with this one in my opinion.

This isn’t a thriller but it was a good character driven story. If that’s what you enjoy then I would recommend this one. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for a copy in exchange for a review.

What a fabulously delicious book. This book has a fantastic story line, excellent characters and is just unputdownable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and I enjoyed it immensely.

There were several things keeping me from enjoying this one more. For starters, I could not warm up to the main character of the mother. I did enjoy the chapters narrated by the daughter though and wanted to know how her story ended. That brings me to my second issue. Definitely not as satisfying of an ending as I had hoped. Maybe a little rushed and could have been more detailed. Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for the ARC.

Interesting plot, even if less than believable. Well written, however, with fully developed characters. I did like the alternating mother-daughter chapters.

This story is told in two different point of views mother and daughter. I love books with different POV’s. I enjoyed this book but I wish it had a little more suspense in it. Overall, it was a good read.

I liked Where She Went, but I can't say I loved it. The writing style was good, but the story didn't really grab my interest in spite of likeable characters. I probably shouldn't say it, because if you're reading this before reading the book, that's all you'll focus on when you actually read the book, but the number of “Wait, what?”—not from one but seemingly all the characters—really annoyed me. Another thing was the (too) many useless references to church. The novel is labeled as a mystery, but I like those when they follow the Chekhov's Gun principle—every element of a story is necessary, and every one of these elements should have a pay off. And what I certainly don't like, besides the unnecessary elements, and I hate to leave bad reviews, is a Christian novel in disguise. I have nothing against Christianity—I absolutely loved The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell—when needed to the story or characters. That's not the case. That's what killed it for me, although—again—the writing was very solid and of course, as a mother, I could relate.

I liked this book a lot. The main two characters who were mother and daughter were likable as well as believable.. I.realized pretty quickly that nothing catastrophic was going to happen but it was still interesting to try to figure out how it was going to end and that turned out to be the biggest surprise of all. All in all it was a good read and I recommend it highly.

Fast read that kept my attention. I really liked the author's writing style and I thought the alternating viewpoints was a good setup for this book. Following Emma as she delved further into her investigation was interesting and the story didn't go where I expected. I did think Maggie (the mother character) was really overbearing and I never really got the sense that something really bad had actually happened. I did enjoy this book but I just wished it had been a bit more suspenseful/intense throughout.

Intriguing tale of a college freshman, Emma O'Farrell, trying to find her place on campus. Seemingly always a step behind her peers, Emma looks to the school newspaper for a way to fit in.
Unwittingly, she stumbles upon a potential sex scandal that could ruin the school but she forges ahead in an attempt to write a story that will win her a place on the roster as a reporter. When Emma disappears, her mother goes on a tear to find her. Maggie doesn't let the police, the students, or the school get in her way. Stopping only to remember the person Emma is, Maggie learns to use a mother's knowledge of her daughter to guide her ever closer to Emma. Simmons keeps the reader guessing at the outcome and what an outcome she provides!

Where She Went by Kelly Simmons struck a chord with me as an introspective look at an unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter, and just how far a mother is willing to go for her only child.

Maggie O'Farrell and her daughter, Emma, are particularly close following the death of their police officer husband and father's death in the line of duty. When Emma leaves for college, the relationship remains tight, until Emma goes missing without a trace from her freshman dormitory. Maggie is frantic for answers and launches her own investigation, not fully prepared for the secrets that she will uncover about the daughter she thought she knew.

This is an intriguing premise and there are just enough surprises thrown in to propel the narrative forward. I enjoyed the alternating voices of Maggie and Emma, both well-drawn characters, and it is their relationship, I believe, from which the novel truly draws its strength.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for this ARC.

This book was really easy for me to get into. I liked the main characters, especially Maggie. Where She Went was not what I was expecting, but all in all, I enjoyed it.

This story was interesting and had me till the end. The subject is one I wasn’t familiar with so I learned something. The ending went a little too fast. I wanted it to slow down a little so I could enjoy before it was all over. I was pleasantly surprised.

A really well-paced thriller that kept me guessing - Simmons does an excellent job of depicting college life, chaotic and confusing as it can be, particularly in the early days! The relationship between mother and daughter was convincingly rendered and I read the entire book in one sitting. I did find the resolution a little anticlimactic, and I'd have liked a bit more closure on the 'sugar baby' storyline.

Emma is a freshmen living with four other girls in a dorm when she discovers a breaking news story that could help her score a place on the school’s paper. Then Emma turns up missing. Maggie, Emma’s mother, will stop but nothing to find her daughter and Emma will do anything she can to create this story to earn respect from the editor of the newspaper. But where did Emma go? What happened?

While this story has a great plot, it wasn’t written well. There were a lot paragraphs that were not relevant at all and Maggie greatly annoyed me through the whole book because she was constantly hysterical. I guess the author felt like she was portraying a real mom who had a daughter missing. I found Maggie as an unbelievable character who was often whiny if she didn’t get her way.

The ending of the story totally came out of nowhere. I didn’t even realize the story was ending. I felt like there was no true climax…that it just sort of went from build up to end. The resolution of the story was also disappointing.

Where She Went is a quick read, but I would put it on a back burner because there are books with more charisma, better plots (and endings), and more realistic characters than this one.
