This book was okay. I liked the exercises, but it read a bit like a textbook. The information was interesting despite reading as a textbook.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

This is supposed to be a book that blends Epicurus and Eckhart Tolle to help you transform yourself. And there are some interesting ideas here but they are often reduced to their simplest terms and then those simplest terms are made to use points that create a misunderstanding of the original idea. Chapter 3 sounded like nothing so much as used car salesman or televangelist making things sound "so simple" until you really think about the explanation -- and it's not what that author is trying to point out. Things like the Feminist Critiques of Development are explained but then never related to the overall whole. My overall biggest problem with this book was that there were a lot of false parallels.

Different? I really don't know what to say about it. On this one, you will have to read the description and decide whether or not to read it. Just different.

I was really interested in the topic. There was some good stuff but not quite what I had expected or hoped for.

I had high expectations for this book, but I came away disappointed. It is well written, but unfortunately I didn't learn much. Maybe I've read too many other books that cover some of the same material. It is a really good overview and synthesis of a variety of wisdom traditions, and includes summaries and limited exercises, which are helpful. 3.5 stars.

I really appreciate the copy for review!

The ideas presented in the book are certainly unique in the sense that they are different from the ideas usually hashed together to form a book. While reading, you can see that the author has spent time with the ideas. Which is the good part.

Deducted 2 stars because the author hasn't proofread the research. At one point he mentions that the brain is divided into left and right hemispheres while it is scientifically proven that it is not the case. The author's writing style also didn't grow on me. It read too much like a textbook.

Read this for the ideas presented. I especially liked the summary. Very succinct.

I got a free copy of the book from Netgalley.
