Jesus in Me is my first book by Anne Graham Lotz. I had heard her speak -not live- so I knew to expect a very thorough Bible study.
It took me a while to get into the book, but in part 2, I felt that things started picking up a bit and I began to enjoy the book more.

I appreciate Graham Lotz's honesty throughout the book, sharing weak points in her life and how the Holy Spirit worked in her. That honesty makes the theory in the book a lot more relatable, even though some of the stories she shares are very sad. Anne Graham Lotz is not a woman who has led a charmed life.

The whole book is very good, but the chapters I most enjoyed reading were the final ones. The conclusion, "Jesus the Unwavering Focus of the Holy Spirit" is a wonderful trip through the history of mankind and how Jesus was involved all along. Sometimes he appeared in his pre-incarnate form (sometimes called the Angel of The Lord). I was moved when she pointed out that the first person to whom the Angel of The Lord appeared was not Abraham or one of his descendants. Not a man, not a free person, but to Hagar, an Egyptian, a pregnant woman, a poor slave, with no rights of her own (location 3034). I'd never realized that!
At the end of this chapter she encourages every reader to read the Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to guide him or her into all truth.
Appendix D, Gifts of the Spirit, is very helpful.

I'm glad I read this book and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in studying the Holy Spirit.

Thanks to WaterBrook & Multnomah and Netgalley for the digital reviewer's copy.

Jesus in Me is a powerful book on the Holy Spirit, written by Anne Graham Lotz who is a well-established author in Christianity. This is not just an informational book on the study of the Holy Spirit but it explains the possibility and power of experiencing a personal relationship with the Spirit of God. The author shares from her heart about her personal experience of the Holy Spirit as a constant companion. She begins the book by making sure the reader understands that the Holy Spirit is a living person and not an 'it' and that He is not an optional extra in her life but a divine necessity. He is the third person of the Triune Godhead who goes by many different names which the author goes into depth to discuss the personal and practical implications of each. Lotz uses examples from scripture and personal experiences and her intention seems to be to help the reader to recognize the presence and companionship of the Spirit of God. The book is divided into 7 parts. Several of the parts are Loving the Person of the Holy Spirit, Embracing the Purpose of the Holy Spirit, and Reflecting the Purity of the Holy Spirit. Often at the end of the chapters, there is a short section of thoughtful questions and practical suggestions intended to apply the chapter's content to the reader's life. There are so many 'take away' thoughts to ponder and nuggets of wisdom in the book. A couple of ideas resonated with me. Lotz shared that the Holy Spirit had changed her attitude from that of being a victim to recognizing that she is on a mission as His ambassador. Another idea is that the Holy Spirit works in us to make us holy so that we may reflect the holiness of God. One of the final understandings about the Holy Spirit that Lotz shared is that throughout the scriptures the Holy Spirit's focus is on Jesus. Through creation, through the centuries of the lives of God's people and the prophets, through the cradle and the cross and ultimately through the crown, the Holy Spirit makes known that Jesus reigns supreme. Jesus in Me is a wonderful book for believers whether they are new in their faith or have walked with the Lord for many years. It is a great book not only for one's library but also to give as a gift to friends and family.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Multnomah Publishing and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

This is a wonderful book. If you ever wonder about the Holy Spirit; doesn't matter if your a new Christian or a seasoned one, this book can help you understand how He can be a huge part of your life.

It's not a textbook-like read, this is a book where the author shares about how the Holy Spirit was there for her in her time of need. An excellent read for everyone!

This Book Spoke to My Heart
Thanks to Anne's person-to person writing style, JESUS IN ME is an essential, yet easy-to -read and understandable book for anyone seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus. It is packed with Biblical insight, personal stories, and thought-provoking questions to engage and involve the reader. If you want to do more than just read the book, appendices offer helpful guidelines for practical application and personal Bible study. After the first chapter or two, I started looking up the scripture references included in "Notes" at the back of the book, and applying her 3-question study method outlined in Appendix A.

Jesus in Me - Anne Graham Lotz

Anne Graham Lotz is a classic writer of Biblical Truth. Jesus in Me is a study of the Holy Spirit and His importance in our daily lives. Anne has taken an often misunderstood member of the Trinity and explained in detail the position of the Holy Spirit in her own life.

Ms. Lotz experienced the sudden loss of her husband, the loss of her father, Billy Graham and a cancer diagnosis all in the period of a matter of months. The Holy Spirit is her constant companion, as He is yours, advocate, guide and encouragement.

She has done an excellent job weaving in the Biblical basis for the study of the Holy Spirit with her own personal journey as she writes book. She sets a pattern for us to take seriously and act upon making life more fulfilled, strengthened and engaged with God.

I highly recommend this book for all ages.

Author Ann Graham Lotz has written a captivating, eye opening book with “Jesus in Me.” This God glorifying book is filled with transparent stories and reflections of her experience with and thoughts on the Holy Spirit. I was immediately invested and did not want to put this heart warming book down, but I had to take it in daily doses to really absorb it.

This book is extremely well written and well organized. It has twenty seven short chapters, divided into seven themes, with a conclusion and appendixes. The chapters each end with questions to help you apply what you have read for personal growth.

The author has a nice style of writing. It felt like she was chatting with me instead of me reading pages from a book. Her stories are so transparent. She holds nothing back. This book was easy to read and has stayed with me.

There is so much to know and learn about the Holy Spirit. When I was growing up not much was mentioned about Him, just Pentecost. Author Lotz reviews the names of the Holy Spirit and the ways He works in us. She talks about loving the Holy Spirit, trusting Him, enjoying His presence, and relying on Him among many other topics.

This is a much needed book for every Christian. It almost reads like a devotional. I needed to read a few pages and the ponder the rich information. This is a life changing book. It would be wonderful for a small group. Every church library should have a copy. This would be a perfect Christmas or birthday gift for anyone. Why wait for that, it is a perfect gift to share with your family and friends because of its eye-opening, heart-warming message.

I highly recommend this book. It definitely earns a 5 star rating. A copy was provided by the publisher but these are my own, honest thoughts.

My husband mentioned to me a while ago that he enjoys books by Anne Graham Lotz and that she writes really well. I was glad to get a review copy of this title, and I was not disappointed. Ms Lotz writes so simply and clearly, and I loved that she shares so much about how the Holy Spirit has made an impact on her life.

As you read along, you will come across some questions to ask yourself..some challenging and some to reflect upon. I will have to go through the book slowly another time to really benefit from this book.

Thank you Netgalley and WaterBrook & Multnomah for the ARC. This is my honest review.

Anne Graham Lotz's book Jesus in Me is just what Christian's and the Church needs to hear today. We don't always think about, teach about, read about or study about the Holy Spirit. We don't concern ourselves with the fact that the Holy Spirit is God, Himself living in us- sent by God to comfort us, guide us, and more in our daily walk. Ann breaks the book down into 7 parts which include Loving the Person of the Holy Spirit, Embracing the Purpose of the Holy Spirit, and Reflecting the Purity of the Holy Spirit to name a few. She gives us a background of who the Holy Spirit is, How we can hear and follow his prompting in our life, and How the Holy Spirit can change us plus more in this book. The book includes 4 Appendixes to learn more about hearing from and living a spirit filled life, doing a self-examination of our sins, and learning about spiritual gifts. Anne uses personal experiences and struggles to share how she learns and applies what God has taught her about the Holy Spirit in her life. This book is filled with Scripture references supporting and giving references for her lessons and points on the Holy Spirit. The book is about who is the Holy Spirit, knowing the Holy Spirit personally, and applying His guidance, direction, wisdom, and discernment to our daily thoughts, actions, and lives.
The book is also a source for people searching out information and answers about God, the Holy Spirit, and the gospel message.
This book follows an easy to read style that flows easily throughout the chapter. The division of the book into parts makes it easier to follow what aspect of the Holy Spirit or application of the Holy Spirit in your life Anne is discussing. I enjoyed this book and there is a lot to learn from this book so I will be rereading it (along side of my Bible) along with taking notes to glean information and grow in my relationship with Jesus and knowing the Jesus in Me (Holy Spirit). Pick up your copy today. It is well worth the read. This is the first book I have read by Anne Graham Lotz but I enjoyed it and have learned from it. An advanced copy was given to me by the Author in exchange for an honest review. All views and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I loved this book. It was so inspirational and encouraging. I enjoyed immensely learning about the Holy Spirit and how He works in our lives. I don't think we can ever learn all there is to know, but Anne's insight was so enlightening and uplifting. I enjoyed Anne's personal stories about how He intervened in her life and all the roles he played in her life. Each chapter is something exciting and interesting. Learning the names for the Holy Spirit helped me better understand His character and gave me a deeper appreciation for who He is.

I feel like this book will be extremely beneficial to those who read it, and plan on holding on to mine for a while to either re-read or share with a friend. The work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is amazing and realizing just what a help He is to us,

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is just looking for a closer walk with God and more knowledge on the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I was blessed with a copy of this book courtesy of Waterbrook. All opinions are my own. I was not asked to review positively.

Anne Graham Lotz has written an honest, heartfelt, and poignant new book about the Holy Spirit. With short, easy to read chapters, she has shown us and challenged us to discover for ourselves the person, the presence, the purpose, the purity, and the companionship of the Holy Spirit. At the conclusion of each chapter, thought-provoking questions and encouraging reminders give us prompts to consider how the Holy Spirit works in our own lives. This book would work very well as a personal daily devotional, with enough material to last a month or two. The author and publisher provided me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Anne's detailed exploration of who the Holy Spirit is and how He equips us to walk in faith is excellent. I wasn't quite sure what to expect never read anything of Anne's before but it is clear this is a book written by a person who intimately knows and loves the Holy Spirit.

Anne defines the Holy Spirit with the title of the book: "Jesus in me." The first section considers the different roles the Spirit is named in the Bible, ie, comforter, advocate, etc. And then the rest of the book details how the Spirit works and what He does and how He assists us everyday.

Anne has certainly removed any uncertainties I had about the Holy Spirit. The chapters are generally short and easy to read. Anne shares stories of her own life, some of which are a little clunky and a bit hohum but don';t we all have aspects of our life like that. She's continually challenging the reader to dig deeper, to surrender more of themselves and in particular to allow the Spirit to identify and clean out any muck that we might be carrying around.

There are a number of very useful appendices as well including how to read the Word with the Spirit's help, a cheat sheet of sins to converse with the Spirit about to see if they're relevant to yourself, and an outline of the various spiritual gifts.

I expect I'll read this again, even if for some of the great prayers she provides.

I recommend this highly especially if you're a little unfamiliar with who the Holy Spirit is or find Him all a bit to mysterious.

I received an early reader's e-book copy of the book from Multnomah via NetGalley with no expectation of a favourable review.

PHENOMENAL!

I’ve had the privilege of hearing Anne Graham Lotz preach, worked through some of her Bible Studies and read some of her previous books. This book on how the Holy Spirit is Jesus in Me is written in her trademark style. It’s practical, easy to understand, filled with background information, encouraging and contains illustrations from her own personal life to make her point.

Lotz writes about the names of the Holy Spirit and one that I’ve read but somehow just didn’t dwell on is “STANDBY” which is found in John 16:7 (Amplified Version). Standby is referenced again in Psalm 46:1. Lotz reminds us that the Holy Spirit can always be relied on either for regular use or when an emergency occurs.

I think this quote best describes the role of JESUS IN ME:

“... the only way to prepare for an emergency is to be pre-prayered. A crisis leaves no time to establish a relationship with God, no time to get right with Him, no time to learn how to pray. It leaves. No time. Period. A crisis just erupts without warning! So it’s critically important to establish a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ . . . now. To make sure that relationship is free of any sin that might cloud it or put distance between God and us . . . now. To establish a prayer life . . . now. Now. Before the crisis erupts. Then when it does, you and I can count on the Holy Spirit to be our Standby. He may not keep us from the emergency, but He will be with us in it and bring us through it.”

I was provided an ARC of this book by WaterbrookMultnomah & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz’ newest book, is a very personal and intimate exploration of the identity, the very person of the Holy Spirit. While some may consider this third person of the Trinity to be mysterious or even unknowable, Lotz shows us that He CAN be known, He wants to be known, and He must be known if we are to grow in our relationship with God.
In Part One of the book, Lotz goes through the characteristics or traits of the Holy Spirit; Our Helper, Our Comforter; Our Advocate, etc. It’s both enlightening and humbling to explore the character of this Person who indwells us when we confess Christ as Savior.
In subsequent chapters, Lotz explore the presence, the power, and the purpose of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirt can transform us when we allow Him full access to every dark corner, every sin, every thought, and every action in our lives. “Ask yourself whether it’s worth the cost to withhold some area of life from the Holy Spirit. Because His power in your life is activated in direct proportion to the degree you surrender and fully rely on Him.” (Pg. 99)
We’ve all heard the verse, do not quench the Spirit. Even more, we are not to “grieve” the Spirit. Lotz says, we can only grieve someone who loves us, and Spirit love us more than we can even comprehend in this life. “When I sin, the Holy Spirit disciplines me conviction, shame, and guild until I feel I’m smothered spiritually. Almost unable to think clearly or take a deep breath, I’m aware that my sin has grieved and hurt Him. Someone once said He is the most uncomfortable comforter they know! That has certainly been my experience.” (Pg. 97)
The Holy Spirit is not an afterthought, or a backup savior, or an esoteric feeling that confirms our salvation. He is the One whom Jesus promised would come after He Himself went to be with the Father. I think that because we haven’t really studied Him, we have missed opportunities for growth, power, strength, change, and holiness. He’s not just a “presence” or “feeling.” “In order to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ so that we bring Him glory by increasingly reflecting His image and character, the Holy Spirit energizes, or quickens, us into spiritual life.” (Pg. 117) And even more, “Once we are born again and we are assured of His life within us, the Spirit continues to quicken us, or stimulate us, to grow into maturity in our faith.” (pg. 118) The Holy Spirit is not an add-on or consolation prize the apostles and disciples received after Jesus left, He is in fact our Consolation, our Comforter, and evidence our absolute certainty that God is who He says He is and will do what He said He will do, in us and through us.
The Holy Spirit is a healer and teacher, encourager and supporter. “…the Holy Spirit can use the broken pieces of our lives to bring blessing and life to others – and ultimately glory to God.” (Pg. 124) Nothing in our lives is wasted or meaningless when we allow the Holy Spirit access and influence and instruction. “Jesus promised that ‘the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth.’ So ask Him to guide your focus until it’s laser-like in steadfast resolution to bring God glory in all you say and do. Then relax. Regardless of whatever life may bring your way, embrace the Spirit’s purpose.” (Pg. 130)
But Lotz writes that the Holy Spirit doesn’t just impose His will or use us or lay on us His plan. We have an obligation, a duty, and the absolute joy of cooperating in His plans for us and for our world. We want to participate in His expression of Himself. She says, “Maintaining the fire [of the Holy Spirit] requires intentionally establishing some common spiritual disciplines. They are simple choices but not always easy. They include daily prayer. Daily Bible reading. Sharing the gospel. Continuous obedience as you live out what God says in His Word. Continuous trust as you relinquish your expectations and let Him have His way. Deepening surrender to His authority – especially in times of pain and suffering.” (Pg. 132)
Lotz’ book is personal, confessional, and humble as she reveals her own struggles and downfalls and victories in her Christian walk. She is never arrogant or superior – she is one of us – a pilgrim on the Christian path, and gives all glory to God for His goodness and provision.
As we explore our relationship to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, it’s important to study Scripture, pray, and as God to reveal Himself as the holy Trinity, the Godhead, the Creator, and Author and Finisher of our faith. I encourage you to buy or borrow this book, take lots of notes, and thank God for the Holy Spirit Who lives in us for His glory and our good.

When I saw who the author of this book was I eagerly grabbed it. Although this is the first book of hers that I have read, I had read other articles and information about her. And I couldn't wait to read more.
I've read the Bible accounts and accept His basis in scripture. I've also read quite a few books on the biblical foundation but I was also looking for something a bit more than Holy Spirit 101.
I liked the approach that she had when it came to all the different names that describes who Holy Spirit is and some of the ways that He functions. I got nuggets from some of her insights especially when it came to Holy Spirit as our Defender. That was really interesting to me. Equally enlightening was the chapter about His being The Strengthener and her trip to India.
When your spirit is restless or upset have you ever asked The Counselor why? Have you even realized that is what is going on? Where it is coming from? All very good questions.
Her personal life experiences of how she relied on Holy Spirit as well as the scripture verse made for an interesting, and balanced book for me.
I found her to be pretty transparent when it came to being a real person. Someone with failures, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. I ended up really enjoying this book.

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

I have read many of Anne’s books and follow her devotions daily. Reading this book was like butter on warm toast, it melts into the soul. This is not another intellectual survey on the Holy Spirit. It is a pouring out of a deeply personal journey. As such, it causes you to yearn for the same kind of relationship with the Holy Spirit. I can’t imagine anyone reading this book without finding a deepening of their faith as well as a fuller sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

I found Jesus In Me by Anne Graham Lotz to be just what I was looking for. Such an inspiration to a believer’s walk with our Constant Companion. She talks about Him being within and without. About how the Adversary comes to stop us but the Strengthener comes to see us through. Sometimes I can feel like “folding up in a fetal position, whimpering in self-pity,” but she encourages me to “get a grip on the Holy Spirit” instead. She speaks on the importance of pre-praying and she shares a personal experience of that lived out in her life. She actually shares a lot of personal experiences in this book and it’s what makes it an amazing read. My favorite part is how she breaks down aspects of the Spirit being our Constant Companion in quickening, guiding, igniting, shaping, and equipping us. It becomes quite a rich read. I’ll be references, reading, and referring to this book quite a bit throughout my life as it points me to Scripture and encourages me in Him. I highly recommend it.

The Holy Spirit, third member of the Trinity, is probably the least known and understood despite the awesome work He does in us today. This scripture-based book shares who the Holy Spirit is and what His work is in our lives, including and especially pointing us to Jesus. I have been familiar with Anne Graham Lotz since attending one of her Just Give Me Jesus weekends several years ago, and appreciate her sound teaching and manner of speaking, as if there are simply a few friends talking over coffee. Through her encouragement, honesty, and shared scripture, I want to continue learning more about the Holy Spirit, loving Him, and letting Him work in my heart.

The author shares much about the Christian life, including special prayers for personal revival and how one comes to faith in Jesus as Savior. One learns step by step through the seven sections of the book, including Loving the Person of the Holy Spirit, Enjoying the Presence of the Holy Spirit, Relying on the Power of the Holy Spirit, Embracing the Purpose of the Holy Spirit, Living by the Precepts of the Holy Spirit, Reflecting on the Purity of the Holy Spirit, and Trusting in the Providence of the Holy Spirit. I like how each section is laid out; I can’t think of anything that was left out! We learn much about the Trinity throughout both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

I had not thought about it before, but Mrs. Lotz emphasizes that the Holy Spirit loves each of us individually and He isn’t “stuck” with us. But we have to allow Him to work in our lives, and the reader sees how the author demonstrates His work and presence through applicable illustrations, scripture, and her own experiences. Anne Graham Lotz has had many rich, as well as challenging, events in her life, from growing up with both parents being strong, faithful believers, to being a young mother, beginning to teach Bible study, and major life changes of recent years.

She shares these experiences without self-pity or anger. Instead, the author shows how the Holy Spirit has been with her through it all. He encourages her, convicts her, protects her, leads her even in the most challenging missionary journeys. She is open and honest about the hardest times of her life and how the Holy Spirit has comforted, helped, counseled, and led her through excruciatingly painful times.

I appreciate the demonstration of how she studies scripture with the help of the Holy Spirit. It is unique, and I want to try her suggestions after struggling with how to study in a manner that I can understand and remember it, difficult in recent years due to health challenges. I also appreciate the difference between being indwelt by the Holy Spirit and being filled with Him, a list of personal sins that can help with personal self-examination and confession, and various spiritual gifts.

This book is excellent for personal study along with a Bible and notebook, and I hope a study guide will be forthcoming in the future. Thanks to the author’s way of writing and teaching, I am definitely encouraged to learn more and allow the Holy Spirit to work in my life. I highly recommend this to anyone who is curious about Christianity, who wants to know more about Jesus and His Holy Spirit, and wants to have so much more of the Holy Spirit working through their lives.

From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this from the publisher and from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

Jesus in Me by Anne Graham Lotz is amazing! After each section, I’m caught between stopping to reflect and wanting to continue reading. The dilemma of every great book that speaks to me. Never before have I experienced such an explanation of what the Holy Spirit is. After reading this book I see the Holy Spirit really is a constant companion and not just a sometimes thing. Now I consciously watch for the Holy Spirit in my life.
