Some parts of this book were a bit too much/way too unrealistic, and others were fine. It seemed like the author was trying to throw too many things in. It was a bit odd how so many other authors were mentioned, as it didn't do anything to advance the story line. The mystery was okay, and the characters were interesting. The book was humorous in parts, but it just didn't click with me in the long run. I did like the cover.

What Ever Happened to Mr. MAJIC? by Rod Pennington & Jeffery A. Martin is a fun, easy read that can qualify as a beach read. I enjoyed this book and laughed aloud several times while reading it. This is very entertaining it has quirky characters, mystery, drama, humor and a little bit of romance. This is my first time reading these authors and I hope to read more from them.

I liked this story. The main character finds out after her mothers death that her father is not her biological father. However, her deceased mother has left her clues to the true identity of her father. Although, story does become a bit contrived.
Her now half sister is very smart and is going to be a lawyer she also is engaged to a wealthy computer nerd who develops software. Of course, the main character needs lawyerly advise and help getting into her mother's computer. The nerd also has a good looking bodyguard because the main character needs a love interest. A Fun Read.

This is a fun, quick read with well written characters and a good story. I like mysteries where the plot isn't too complicated, and this fit the bill. This is produced by a talented duo, and I hope they write more. Recommended.

I really appreciate the ARC for review!!

Loved this book. Kinda easy to work out the “mystery”, but that’s ok. The book was still quite enjoyable. Thanks!

A great fun read. I suppose if you are into self help you could try a few of the techniques to self actualization, but it was a fun way of presenting real research and poking a little fun at some of the theories that abound.
I think I would have enjoyed an outing with these characters, they brought you right along with them. Having two sisters, I loved their dialogue, it was just like real sisters talk, sometimes quirky, snitty, and sometimes loving. Even though their relationship is quite different than most normal siblings, I suppose there are siblings that don't relate in their youth or as adults. The mystery was a little far fetched and predictable (but that's the point (&fun)of fiction- right!?) but you just have to keep going to see how it all plays out.
A great beach, summer or poolside read and the information is there if you want to delve deeper! Enjoy!

Thanks to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.
I received this book as a complimentary copy for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Part mystery and part relationship tale, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MR. MAJIC, provides the reader with a fun, lite read that can easily fill a spring afternoon or qualify as a beach read. This offering tells the tale of how two sisters, Grace the outsider who lives in her head and Sunny whose outlook on life is reflected in her name and the manner in which they re-engage after the death of their mother, investigate a long kept family secret and come away richer both emotionally, romantically and financially.

Entertaining as well as informative, it’s a narrative filled with humor and inspiration that takes a few swipes at the business of publishing as well as the self-help gurus who push their ideas of how to achieve perfect happiness (theirs seemingly is selling their books and conducting seminars in the quest of amassing huge amounts of cash).

Along with an engaging story of lives in transition, authors Pennington and Martin manage to insert some interesting insights into their tome for the reader to ponder and digest.

Mr. Majic is one of the wealthiest men, and no one knows where he is. He just disappeared. Now Sunny and Grace are trying to find out what exactly their mother had in common with him. It's a puzzle, a mystery, an enlightening task. Their mother has set up a mystery that will solve lots of unanswered questions. It will also bring sister's together, father's and daughter's together, and understanding and true enlightenment.
Excellent read! Fun and exciting!

Enjoyable, light, contemporary story.
It reminded me of current TV in the way issues and interactions between stereotypical characters— siblings, extended families, employer-employee, received shallow episodic treatment similar to weekly rom-coms. Even the core theme of solving a mystery left behind after the death of the main character’s mother sometimes felt more like a way to facilitate examples and endorsements, of mindfulness and meditation as a way to manage the stresses and situations encountered.

2.5 stars Definitely mixed feelings about this book. Over the top in a lot of instances, like finding out as her mo is buried that her father is not her father, along with a lawyer present to tell her the same thing before leaving the cemetery. Ok, it's fiction, but this is a bit much.

Speaking of fiction, it seemed like the authors wanted to list every author they had read or admired so the story included lists of authors and sometimes parts of the books. Example: Janet Evanovich writes the Stephanie Plum series of humorous stories. Fine; I know that. I don't need the author of a book to write about admiring another author's work so much that the telling of the Stephanie stories is included in this book. Odd, for sure and not anything that contributed to this story.

Mr Majik is supposedly her dad, but he disappeared before she was born and now Grace and her sister set out to find him. Amusing, but you have to let reality go in order to go with this story.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun read. I did really enjoy this book. It is different then many I have read but in a really good way. The first thing that caught my eye was the colorful cover then when I read the review it peaked my interest. Grace finds out that the man she thought was her Dad was not really her biological father and this all takes place on the day of her Mom's funeral. I know, how can you not want to read this book now. Well let me tell you it is well worth your time in my humble opinion. The way this mystery unfold is wonderful add in a little romance and a lot of family drama and it is a win win.

Clever tale with quirky characters interwoven with magical thinking. It is a frolicking old fashioned mystery complete with private detectives, cyber sleuths, and a pair of charming sisters.

On the day of her mother's funeral, Grace Maxwell discovered the man who raised her was not her biological father. Instead, he was a famous self-help author, known as Mr. MAJIC, who had inexplicitly vanished around the time Grace's mother became pregnant with her.

With the help of her zany sister and a hard-boiled detective who had made finding Mr. MAJIC his life’s work, Grace goes on a quest to find her father. Along the way she finds something much more important, inner-peace.

Beautiful written. Home, family, and peace.

What a fabulous twisted tale. Grace had a great supportive family but didn't realize it until her mom died. The mystery her mom puts together is a fun one full of twists and turns. I thought the book was wonderful and well worth the read.

A truly remarkable book. The way the characters interact was easily amazing to say the least. Finding a way home doesn't always mean location sometimes it means looking deep into your heart.

A mix of different elements, an engaging and entertaining plot and a good style of writing.
I can say I liked it even if some parts seemed a bit weak.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Reads as much like juvenile fiction as self-help.
Poorly written with unbelievable dialogue.
Interesting plot made better in short story format, not novel.

What Ever Happened to Mr. MAJIC? by Rod Pennington & Jeffery A. Martin is an unusual book for me to read. Different from my usual escapism reading. There is a mystery, humor, drama even a bit of romance with a cast of original characters. Then the novel teaches while it entertains.

I can’t think of a more extraordinary group then these to go on the journey of self-discovery, nor one that I would have enjoyed being with more. A remarkable book.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
