I loved this. It is a very complex story about a serial killer but it has huge depth and complexity. At times it was so complicated that I had to review the latest chapter but I thoroughly enjoyed it and was desperate to get back to it.
It was difficult to manage the Scandinavian names though and the character list is very long.
The story is very much of today, using modern technical developments but also relies on police thinking and deductions.
Thoroughly recommended

The characters in this series aggravate me to no end. They constantly make the wrong decisions and can be brilliant cops who mess up monumentally. I kept yelling at them. How can Fabian Risk still be part of the team when he nearly derailed the previous investigation? How on earth is Dunja not a national heroine? Why am I giving this novel 5 stars? Well, because I could not put it down. The twists were unexpected, the baddie as creative as he is ruthless and the plot could give anyone a heart attack. Some of the questions I had from the previous novel (#1, I haven't read the prequel yet) are answered and new issues are hinted at. And even if I didn't like all of the characters (am I wrong for rooting against one of them?), I still wanted to find out what was going to happen and Risk, who has grown on me, to solve the mystery and stop the crimes. I can't wait for the next volume.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Head of Zeus!

I loved this Nordic noir mystery of which I’m a huge fan of. I loved the setting and characters and felt this book had a fast paced plot

What appears, initially, to be a tragic accident turns into a thrilling crime mystery. Case closed? Or, have the police missed something or someone closer to home?

It's quite an intense book with lots going on. I felt like there was just too many characters and it was easy to lose track. It is a well written book but I feel like it was too convulated.

This is a new author to me although I realised this was a Nordic Noir Crime thriller, a genre I only read intermittently. This title is part of Ahnhem’s Fabian Risk Series but I have read it in isolation and found I could still enjoy the novel and didn’t think that I missed out because I haven’t read the other titles. The novel is action packed and moved at a fast rate.Initially there seems to be a lot of separate scenarios being described but these eventually become interconnected in a unique way. The twist at the end certainly makes you wonder what will happen next so perhaps I will read the follow up to this title. It is compulsive, creepy and puzzling all at the same time.A great read even though there is the usual sex room and violence threaded throughout the novel.

A curious accident turns out to be the beginning of an incredible series of murder. On a hot summer day, a car speeds through Helsingborg and is only stopped by the water front. The autopsy of the body reveals that he has been dead for at least two months, the body frozen. When Fabian Risk and his colleagues investigate the victim’s life, they come across a case of not just stolen identity, but also stolen millions from the rich man. Obviously a doppelgänger has taken over his life and transferred all his money. A great strategy and as it turns out, it has been working for quite some time already. While Fabian’s full attention is demanded at work, his marriage comes to an end. His wife seems to eventually make a big with her art work and his kids are immersed in other things. No one in the family pays attention to the other anymore which turns out to be a serious mistake, since all of them get in danger, again.

Part two of the Fabian Risk series is a psychological thriller that cleverly combines the detective’s police work with the developments in his private life. I liked the protagonist in this second novel a lot more than in the first since he now has become a real team player and not the single cop who can do all on his own. What I also liked is that his Danish colleague reappears and that her story, too, is continued.

At the beginning, the thriller starts with quite a strange case of murder and does not seem to turn out too complicated. Admittedly, for me having the two cases, one on the Swedish and one on the Danish side of the Øresund, seemed to be a classic setting with enough to solve for the two teams. Yet, Stefan Ahnhem could really surprise me with what a net of crime he has woven here. The more the novel advances the more you can just read and stare and admire the complexity of the plot. The action accelerates increasingly and this the further you get the harder it becomes to put it away. A great read and surely makes you eager to read more of Stefan Ahnhem.

Another new author for me and I am already searching for more of his work. An absolutely, gripping thriller. A real page turner and a serial killer. This is definitely my type of book, I read this book in one sitting and reading until late into the night I HAD TO KNOW. I could not put this book down. After reading the blurb for this book I knew that I would be in for a real rollercoaster of a read and boy was I. I am one very happy reader, an easy five stars and so Highly Recommended.
I would like to thank the author, Head of Zeus and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

This is the first book I have read in the Fabian Risk series, and I will definitely read more! It is a tence, fast paced story, full of suspension and violence. Police investigation of two cases is interwoven with personal stories of the main protagonists. The character ters are believable and in most cases likeable. I couldn't put the book down. Thank you, Netgalley, for giving me this opportunity, I found another great book series!

I am a fan if Scandinavian thrillers. The setting always adds to the talent of such authors as camilla lackberg. This is what this book is trying to be but from the outset there are too many characters introduced without enough depth to be won over by them. I quickly lost track of the plot as a result of trying to figure out who was who. On the upside the plot did peek my interest in the beginning but I lost my way with the characters.

I haven't come across this author before, but I will definitely read more of his books. This is a gripping thriller, with well-drawn characters, and a page-turning narrative. The story is complicated and somewhat far-fetched, but the reader doesn't notice this as she burns the midnight oil, desperate to see how it will all end. I loved it!

Brilliant. There are some books that just can’t pull yourself away from with the need to find out what’s going to happen, and this is definitely one of those stories. I quite enjoyed that the plot is a little bit different from other Crime Thrillers that I’ve read, and there was more than story line happening throughout the book. This is the third book I’ve read by Stefan Ahnhem, and I’ve loved each one of them. I’ve definitely become a fan of his writing.
Fabian Risk and his fellow detectives are baffled when the autopsy confirms the recent body pulled out of the water was already dead before the car had entered the water. It’s a bit unusual for someone that’s been frozen dead for a couple of months manage to drive a car around the city. Dunja Hougaard isn’t so thrilled about being a police officer patrolling the streets and would much rather be back in her old job as a detective. So, when Dunja sees that a homeless man with a crushed chest had obviously been murdered, and the detectives in charge didn’t seem to be that interested in finding the murderer, she decides to start investigating the case herself. What Dunja doesn’t realise is that her old boss Kim Sleizner is still out to get her, and he will do anything to sabotage her career. If you enjoy Thrillers, then you will love this book. It’s well worth a read. 5/5 Star Rating.

I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It is my first book read by this author. I hope to read more books by this author.

The third book in the Fabian Risk series. Best to read them from the start I think as I didn’t and found this a bit confusing.
There’s a body fished out of the harbour and they smell alcohol on his breath. Trouble is he’;s been dead for two months. This is just the start of the puzzle and more bodies appears in equally strange circumstances.
There are a lot of bodies here and some gory crime scenes. Watch out for if someone knocks at your door delivering some kind of freezer…
This is just one strand of what I found to be a very busy novel with strands interweaving, criss crossing and pulling you back and forth like a bungee jump. Fabian’s life is one and those of his family weave in and out of the main storyline to great effect. There’s more though and that’s what I found confusing. Less threads and more fleshing out of the main threads would have made this a much more interesting read for me. Or maybe I need to read the earlier ones in the series.

A gritty gory thriller though!

As I've already said, this book was too tempting to turn down so I downloaded it and spent most of Sunday reading it. It's part of a series but don't let that put you off, this is the first book in the series that I've read and I followed it just fine. There was enough information about character history to fill in any blanks and the majority of the book is the police investigations which are specific to this book.

There is nothing conventional about this story, even from the beginning it throws information at you and expects you to keep up. It's a fast-paced thrill of a ride and doesn't let up, even the slower scenes have their own tension which means the story doesn't slow down for a second. I was gripped by the first few pages and when I wasn't able to read the book, I was thinking about it, wondering what would happen next. It doesn't baby you or give you too much information but gives just enough that you have to join the dots yourself or be left floundering and confused. It's a cleverly executed story which kept me guessing all the way through.

As I've said there are others in the series and those are now high on my to-read list because this storytelling is a level of skill I have rarely seen elsewhere.  While there is not a great amount of time spent on characters back stories there is enough that you care what happens to them and get a good sense of them, even of the more minor characters that are only in for a few pages.  There are a few different threads running through the book and they are skilfully woven around the main one, in the blurb, so that you can see how the threads interconnect and form into a gripping story which will have you questioning what you're reading.

If you like crime fiction, whether you read a lot of Scandinavian crime or not, then you definitely have to check out this series. This book doesn't hold back, there's a lot of death but don't let that put you off, it's a fabulous read and definitely worth a try.  I certainly do not regret for one second clicking on that email on Sunday morning and discovering this stunning book!

I'm grateful to netgalley for the opportunity to read this book .I found the story a little hard to follow and difficult to get into but I persevered and after a while started to enjoy it even though it's a little bit far fetched in places All in all an enjoyable book

Absolutely not for the faint-hearted or those expecting a straightforward murder detective. Ahnhem's inclusion of so many characters at the outset had me scratching my head for a while but each one proved significant as the book progressed.
This felt somewhat like a recipe for a cake with a multitude of ingredients at the outset with the method becoming clearer and the mixture ever stronger as the various twists were added to the plot. Even the conclusion adds that extra shake of sprinkles to the icing on the cake.
With so many characters and sub-plots this could have been one big messy gloop but Ahnhem skilfully provides the reader with enough hooks and answers to ensure a very gripping read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus books for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
