I really liked this book - I thought the expressions of loss and worry and love were so well done. Katherine lost her husband a few years ago and her uncle persuades her to come visit over Christmas. She stays at a cottage most recently lived in by Juliet, who was a pilot in World War 2. I enjoyed both stories, the relationships felt real, and it was a difficult book to put down.

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity they gave me to read it!

I did not really expect to like this book, but I ended up loving it. It was complex and the characters made decisions that had no right or wrong choice. Closer to the beginning, the writing was a little abrupt, as the story switches from Juliet during the war to Katherine in present times. Both of these women had their own unique stories that involved many different characters. I was rooting for Juliet and Katherine the entire time.

While there were moments of joy, the book was set up to expect sadness. Katherine is mourning her husband, and Juliet was serving during wartime, in which many of her family members, friends, and acquaintances died. The book ended with a sad event but promised hope and a future through it. I thought that the author wrapped up both of their stories nicely.

I became very invested in Juliet’s story, especially in regards to her relationship with Edward. This book was similar to The Flight Girls and Code Name Verity as it shows a friendship of female pilots in the ATA (both of which are excellent books and would recommend to anyone who loved this one). WWII books may sometimes appear similar, but a good author can make his or her book distinguished through excellent plot lines, character development, and the tone. Melanie Hudson accomplished this, and I would definitely recommend this book.

I LOVED this book!!! I loved everything about it- the characters, story and writing style. The book was about so much more than Juliet flying airplanes for the RAF. This book was an emotional roller coaster. It made me laugh and cry. I loved Katherine and Juliet but I also loved the minor characters. I love the relationship Katherine has with her Uncle Gerald. Their letters and texts always have a humorous side to them. Finella was definitely one of a kind. Chihuahuas being the spawn of Satan, was one of her more memorable lines. Katherine's interactions with Finella always made me laugh. The harvesting of the seaweed, Finella's kitchen/sweatshop, the almost beheading of the elf with scissors... just to name a few. Then there was Santa on Tinder. I don't think Katherine expected Noel needed help with his dating profile. What was with the creepy elf in Juliet's cottage? I think I would have locked it in a closet while staying there. I loved reading about Juliet. She definitely lived a memorable, adventurous and a very full life. I loved how the book alternated between Katherine and Juliet. Angels Cove was the perfect place for Katherine, even if she thought she was only going there because of an apostrophe. Loved the moments she shared with Juliet, even if she had to find all of Juliet's treasures and dig them up.

Definitely recommend this book!!! A wonderful historical fiction book with a bit of romance, humor, and mystery about whether or not Juliet will ever find her beloved compass. It was beautifully written. It's one of my favorite books that I read this year. I look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the cover.

My Thoughts

‘I shook my head. ‘... I’ve never wanted to become focused on any big goals or aspirations. I’ve seen too many men forget to live in the moment because all they can see are the goalposts ahead of them. I live for today, right now. No promises. No expectations.’

What a little gem this book proved to be. I absolutely loved it! I have not read any of Melanie Hudson’s books before, but the appeal of a dual timeline historical fiction adventure was a no brainer. I am happy to say that both writing and story delivered.

Dual timelines are difficult to deliver and I worried about Katherine in the present timeline initially, but so strong is Juliet’s story (from the historic timeline), that she swept us all up in her story and reflections of days gone by. The writing is so engaging and easily transfers between past and present. Bring into the mix Melanie’s research undertaken regarding the bravery of the A.T.A. girls (Air Transport Auxiliary) during World War II and it makes for quite a tale. Where Melanie truly delivers is how she ties modern day Katherine to Juliet’s reminiscing - brilliant!

‘She would have walked with the same image painted in her mind. I liked that, it peeled away the years. The field where she landed the Tiger Moth would be just up the road, too, and I suddenly wanted to stand there, in the place where she stood, to find the exact place she met Edward, the place she fell in love, to absorb myself in someone else’s love story for a while.’

Although I did not feel as much for Katherine, her interactions with Juliet were priceless, the ending pure poetry. There are many characters to engage with here from romantic interests, to the other ‘Attagirls’, to those fighting the Nazis on continental Europe. I loved so much about 'The Last Letter from Juliet', and highly recommend it. It’s new and interesting take on WW2 events, tied together with such a heartwarming and moving story is sure to impress.

Some days come along in life that are so significant they stay with you for eternity. Such days remain as bright and clear in my mind’s eye now as on the day itself and usually fall into two categories–days so terrible I would rather forget them, or days so wonderful I want to remember them forever.

Beautiful, heartwarming story.Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
The story has two parallel storylines and though I typically get bored with stories like that and tend to flip through one,I didn’t with this one!!
This story is well rounded.

Our memories are the jewels of our lives, they hold all our loves, joys and the people who inspired us. Judith through her war years of flying knew the love, respect, and joy of many friends. These memories where written so she could still remember when her mind grew foggy, They had a profound effect on a woman - lonely and lost to find peace and joy.
One side of the stories of the Village of Angels Cove gives us a colourful view of the many excentric people who lived there. They played a major role in the lives of these women. As the story unfolds we are given an insight into the true and everlasting love given to the chosen few. As with all great love stories, it also has an unbearable sadness. The angels return to the cove. They have another soul to escort to heaven.
A very difficult book to close the cover on, You wanted to stay with these people forever, Angel Cove is now the place I now go to when my troubled mind needs a resting place. I look forward to reading this author's other novel The Wedding Cake Tree. A gifted writer who understands that with faith and hope all is not lost.

This book had a little bit of everything in it for me. It was set in Cornwall and went back and forth from WWII and present day. Juliet is a free-spirited, courageous young woman who flies Spitfires for the ATA during WWII. Orphaned at a young age, she was virtually adopted by the Lanyon family whose daughter Lottie she went to school with. Her sense of obligation to them leads her to marry Charles Lanyon, Lottie's brother, even though she doesn't have romantic feelings for him. Days before her marriage, she meets Edward Nancarrow and her heart is forever lost.

In present day, recently widowed Katherine is invited to Cornwall and stays in the cottage that once belonged to Edward Nancarrow and that currently belongs to Juliet's adopted nephew Sam who is away at sea. Katherine finds some old journals of Juliet's and becomes absorbed reading about her life.

Along with romance, humor, and intrigue, there were plenty of cups of tea poured and a general coziness to the writing style that I enjoyed. After reading this entertaining novel, I'd like to read the first two books Melanie Hudson has written.

I was given an ARC edition of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.

The Last Letter From Juliet by Melanie Hudson is a wonderful dual timeline interweaved to give the reader a captivating historical fiction, thrilling, suspenseful, and bittersweet story that is so great to read, time flew from beginning to end.
Current day Katherine and WWII Juliet storylines intercept and add to each other with ease. I loved both female characters and both of their stories. So many times one time frame takes away from the other, but this time both women’s stories perfectly fit together. I love this era and I love the ending for both women. It felt complete and satisfying.

Great read. 5/5 stars

This is the first book from this author that I have read. I like WWII books and this one was no exception. Juliet was the heroine. Her parents were stunt flyers and her Father taught Juliet to fly and take part in the show. That’s how her love of flying began. I do think that at times the story kind of got bogged down. But I finished it and am glad I did. I enjoyed reading about this aspect of the war and certainly have a lot of respect for these female pilots. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy for my honest review.

This is a wonderful novel that I could not put down. It is based on the "Attagirls," the daring women pilots who served during WWII. Juliet, the protagonist, is on the eve of her 100th birthday and others in a small Cornish town are determined to make her final wish come true. This is a lovely story, beautifully written which I highly recommend.

What a unique story! The shifting perspectives gave the characters more depth than a straight time line would have, even though they didn't intertwine. There is a lot of history tucked in the storyline, and the many vivid descriptions of the art of flight will appeal to pilots and aerophiles alike. Step back in time to the uncertainty of the era, and appreciate the based-on-truth story of the Attagirls!

This book was received as an ARC from Harper Impulse and Killer Reads in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

We are still in the search of inspiring and invigorating Historical Fiction novels that are enriched in history and filled with drama and the Last Letters from Juliet was no exception. The story of Juliet Caron, a female pilot servicing in WWII was such an enticing story that was both motivational and historical. Then reading the story of Katherine moving into Juliet's estate and discovering the letters she wrote wishing what could be done and when she finds our it is Juliet's 100th Birthday, she is determined to finish what Juliet wanted most. I am all about female empowerment and making a stamp on history and this book was so moving that I know a lot of our readers will be fond of this book as well.

We will consider adding this title to our Historical Fiction/Romance collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
