Anniki Sommerville's 'Motherwhelmed' offers a compelling and sometimes uncomfortable look at the plight of a woman on the edge. The protagonist, Rebecca, longs for freedom and the opportunity to break out of the cycle of motherhood, working, and monotony. Rebecca yearns to live life on her own terms, away from the dreariness and pressures of day to day life. As she attempts to bridge the gap between what she wants and what she needs, we are taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotion, humor and occasional tragedy. An inspiring read that serves as a reminder to us all to live our own lives in our own ways, this book is definitely worth a read.

Realities…
Rebecca seems to have it all. But, Rebecca is not feeling herself. The realities of life as they crash and burn in this entertaining, no nonsense tale of not really having it all. Relatable and amusing, lighthearted and entertaining, painful and emotional.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

Motherwhelmed was a hilarious, relatable, and refreshing read! I love reading fiction-based novels about parenting, especially when it is written in a humorous, "tell it like it is" way. I laughed and commiserated throughout the whole book and wish I had read it when I was in the same parenting stage as Rebecca. The characters were so familiar and spot on perfect with their individual flairs, quirks, and personalities, which made the novel even better. It was an easy read and one that I hated putting down to deal with real life. I definitely would read more books by this author - please write more novels Anniki!

This book is told mainly from the point of view of one main character. It is a very descriptive book which allows you to visualise the characters and the setting of the story making you feel part of it.

This book is a page turner and I finished it in one sitting. A great book

This book was an enjoyable and easy read. It was repetitive in places but also very relatable (despite not even being a parent). I would say that the story line was quite one dimensional but overall I did enjoy following Rebecca on her journey and I would recommend if your looking for something easy to read.

Rebecca feels as though she is stuck. Stuck in her job, stuck in a marriage and stuck as a parent. Although I found this really funny in part I couldn’t completely identify with the main character, I expect as I’m not a mother. However I do get the monotony and overwhelming desire to be more.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley..

This was my first book by this author.
As a mom myself, I figured this would be a great read. It definitely had some humor in it, but I'm not sure i would classify this as a "laugh out loud comedy.".

I didn't find this book to be interesting. From all the hype I thought it was going to be funny and relatable but it was flat and boring. No real excitement to grip me in. It was relatable to the fact that I'm a mother but some of it was far feteched and it seemed like to the character the grass was always greener

Heartwarming and very real, this was for me a really good read. Echoes of Gill Sims. Some amusing moments and kept me turning the pages. Recommended for fans of the genre.

Anniki Sommerville’s novel Motherwhelmed debuts Rebecca, age 42, mother of one, wife and lack-luster marketing employee. Rebecca is a relatable character for working mom’s everywhere trying to juggle quality time with their children, a real relationship with their spouse and maintaining or even excelling in their career. Rebecca’s had the same career for many years and is tired of the day in, day out, struggles of: preschool, commuting on public transportation, competing against colleagues and attempting to engage with her detached husband. I found Rebecca to be relatable, but ultimately was frustrated in her inability to really make any significant changes in her life. This book is an enjoyable reader for most women, particularly those in similar life situations, as it is an honest look at whether or not women can really “have it all.” Despite Rebecca not being totally sure what it is she’s after, Motherwhelmed is an entertaining and interesting read.

A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rebecca is certainly a relatable main character. Stuck in a dead-end job with a husband who won't talk to her and a child she barely sees, she feels overwhelmed and depressed. Rebecca is constantly looking for her calling in life, but has no idea how she should be spending her time while supporting her family. While I enjoyed reading about Rebecca's life, I did find parts of this book to be a bit monotonous. I really just wanted to scream at Rebecca to get on with her life! However, I enjoyed reading this book overall and would recommend it to anyone who feels stuck in their life.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Not sure about laugh out loud comedy, however it is certainly not without its humour.
It tells Rebecca's story on how she copes with a high pressure job in Market Research whilst being a mother to a young daughter and a wife. Whilst making use of her extensive experience she is constantly being criticised by her bosses and taken advantage of by her colleagues. With trouble at home and work she struggles on how to improve her work life balance. Not a feel - good book, but an interesting take on modern life and well worth a read.

I received a free electronic copy of 'Motherwhelmed' on October 5th, 2019, from Netgalley, Anniki Sommerville, and publishers One More Chapter, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this novel of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest, personal opinion of this work.

Motherwhelmed is a sympathy card and personal letter, including hints for coping and permission to act out, to mothers everywhere. From the perspective of a generation Xer, Anniki Sommerville still nails it for us Boomers and those youngsters just starting out in motherlife. In a world where every adult has to bring home a paycheck to break even, the sacrifices are still most often made by Mom - doubling up as caregiver, housekeeper, cook, laundress, chauffeur, bookkeeper, yard boy, nurse, all while holding down a demanding job as you fight for equality, sanity, and an established naptime can take it all out of a girl. Sommerville gives us understanding and the consolation that we are not alone, details of plans that work and those that don't. All tendered with laughter, tea, and sympathy. Thanks! Let us all leave a copy of this novel in the ManCave.

I wanted to like this book and had high expectations but unfortunately was slightly underwhelmed. I found it hard to stay interested in it and there were very few laughs. Perhaps just not to my taste as others have clearly found it hilarious.
