This is such a gem of a book. I’ve had the ARC for ages but somehow just kept putting it aside. Once I finally read it I fell in love with it. Ferguson combines nature, science, story telling and philosophy in an incredibly beautiful, thought provoking, wise book. This is easily one of my favorite reads of the year and I’ve read nearly 300. I highlighted so many sections because they were so moving and memorable.

Highly, highly recommended.

I read a digital version of this book via NetGalley.

A beautifully written, highly thoughtful book by a master storyteller. I loved this book. The author explores many topics in this book, all of them interesting and worthwhile. Much of his book is set in Yellowstone, as he tells stories of his times in the more remote parts of the national park and shares what he has learned. There's a lot to unpack in this book, from how nature makes us feel better to feminism to the benefits of diversity in nature. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book and some of the advice. I still have no hope for the future of environment and much of the species. I wish we all were concerned with mother nature and the environment.

It seems that humans have never been so out of touch with the natural world, with global warming a reality and a government that refuses to accept it, all would seem to be lost. But Ferguson sees reasons for hope and shares that with readers, providing a much needed boost for those of us who believe that all living things are interconnected and that when one species fails, we all do.
