A Rodeo Cowboy with Amnesia!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, A True Cowboy Christmas, so I dove into Cold Heart, Warm Cowboy knowing nothing beyond it was Ty’s book...and holy moly was I surprised!

Ty is suffering from medical memory loss due to a bull riding accident and can’t remember the last two years which so happens to encompass his entire relationship with his wife and the news that he has a baby.

I really liked Hannah’s strength and Ty’s attempts to figure out who he was but there were a few things that kept me from falling completely in love with their story. I didn’t love all the internal monologue-ing that seemed to always say the same thing or that Hannah was away from Jack for so long, it just didn’t feel right to me. However, I really loved the exploration of family and legacy that was beautifully handled.

I’m really excited for Brady’s story as I think he’s going to surprise us big time and also I NEED Rae’s story with her ex like now!!!

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.

This book was fine, but didn't really connect for me. I was attracted by all of the tropes Crews employs, and in fairness, she does navigate them quite well, but in the end this just isn't a book that stuck with me.

The cover shows the clear blue Colorado skies that hang over the Cold River Ranch, the ranch of the Everett family. It also shows a good looking cowboy doffing his hat being polite as Ty Everett is supposed to be to Hannah Leigh Monroe when he meets her on his ranch as his favorite horses cozy up to her, a woman he has no memory of. It’s okay as covers go, but I think I would have preferred a rodeo picture of either him in the shutes or her on stage as a rodeo queen. Showing some of the excitement of their past.

The story is really good. It was the old story of a guy and gal fall in love and then split up. Then they get a second chance to be together and they have to hash through the past and recent mistakes, lies, and secrets before they can have a hope of being successful at it. I really liked both of these characters. They were both well defined as people in their own right, but Hannah was really well done.

Hannah was the daughter of an abandoned wife and here she was another abandoned wife living the same life her mother had lived in the same town. She decides she has to take a chance to try to save her marriage to see if she can get a chance at a different life. She has a big secret that she’s keeping from Ty and that’s her son, Jack. She’ll do anything to try to make a better life for Jack. If she can salvage her marriage and give Jack a family, she’ll have succeeded in spades.

But Ty has a secret of his own. He has no memory of what happened between them. He doesn’t even remember Hannah and their love. His accident riding a 2,000 lb bull right after their fight caused amnesia and their entire relationship is a blank to him. How they and his family work it all out is really well written. I liked the ending a lot. Highly recommended. This is the second book in the series. I’m going back to read the first one, which I suspect is the story of Gray and Abby, which should be really cute since they end up a really sweet couple.

So many hurts and so many secrets. Guess there wouldn't be a story without all this drama but it was a bit much for me. Lots of chemistry between Ty and Hannah but also too many secrets. I wish they'd have just been honest with each other from the start. And Ty keeping secrets from his brothers also created just too much unnecessary tension. But there is an HEA so the story does end on a happy note.

Ty Everett ran off to the rodeo when he turned eighteen and has been riding bulls ever since until his last fall causes partial amnesia and he must return to Cold River Ranch to figure out what comes next. Rodeo Queen Hannah Monroe gave up her crown for Ty Everett, and her innocence. What she wants from Ty now is a divorce but Ty can't remember her but when he's with her he feels some warmth in his cold heart.
A well written book of second chances, I liked the added element of Ty’s amnesia which I felt was very well handled. Well portrayed characters who were likeable but I didn’t fully connect with them & numerous times I was saying talk to each other, just talk. However if they had talked it would have been a short book! The beginning of the book is quite slow paced but stick with it as it’s intentional that everything is gradually revealed. A satisfying read that I would recommend
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I really wanted to like this book but, I didn't. I almost stopped reading after the second chapter. I did read the whole book but, it wasn't easy. At least 60% of this book was inner dialogue that went on and on and on. The characters in this book were all closed and confrontational. Thank you, for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I wish I had something positive to say about it.

Hannah and Ty have to restart their relationship!

Former rodeo queen Hannah Monroe had given up everything even her rodeo queen crown and returned home pregnant after her secret husband Ty Everett had told her to leave his hospital room after being severely injured when a bull stomped on him. She wanted to give Ty one last try but when Hannah found out that she was a stranger to Ty since he didn’t remember her or anything about the two years before the injury so he didn’t remember that they were married or that she told him she was pregnant so they had to start all over again.

I grew up in rodeo country and Ty remind me of guys that don’t talk about anything personal until things really go bad but actions speak louder than words and Hannah is like a willow and bends but doesn’t break.

Cold Heart, Warm Cowboy is a romance that any reader will enjoy especially people that like western romances.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was angsty-ier than I was expecting. That’s ok, but there was a lot of drama from just not communicating like adults which drives me crazy. And this was particularly frustrating. There were pages on pages of just talking around stuff. One of two times of that would be fine, but it happened constantly.

It is a reunited lovers story which I am a fan of. I also like rodeo/bull riding so it was interesting to read a story set in that world. And I’m a sucker for a cowboy and a ranch. I watch the show Heartland and kept thinking about that while reading.

The characters had compelling stories-especially Ty. But I felt like any character development was poor. Ty and Hannah make changes, but I didn’t really see the path to that growth. Instead it just…happened. Ty’s relationship with his brothers was probably the most interesting and well-done.

Also, I just read a book with an amnesia-story line so it was weird to read another one. But I think St. Martin’s emailed me about both of these books, so that sort of makes sense.

If the synopsis sounds interesting I would recommend giving it a try, but maybe pick it up form the library.

Drama, lots of Drama, secrets, family Issues and seconds chances. Needless to say there is a lot going on in this book. This is my first by Caitlin, and I would read other.
This is the story of Ty a Champion Bull Rider, and Hannah a Rodeo Queen. Both of them come from families with lots of problems. Ty had a abusive father and a mother who just up and left her three sons with him. After one of the fights with Amos his father, he left at age 18 to join the rodeo.
Hannah was raised by her mother, Luanne and Aunt Bit. Her mother got pregnant at 16 by a rich boy, whose family paid her off as he didn't want anything to do with a baby. Luanne brought her up to believe all men were evil, not to be trusted and only after one thing from girls.
After Ty and Hanna get to know each other, they fall in love and get married in secret as Rodeo Queens are suppose to be single. Then when all seems to be going well, Ty is stomped on by a bull. He is seriously injured and loses him memory of the last 2 years. Right before this ride, Hanna had told him she was pregnant, and he had told her he wasn't father material and he couldn't be a father. Later when she see's him at the hospital he tells her off and to get out he never wants to see
her again.
She leaves, returns home,to deal with her mother's disappointment, and to have her son, Jack.
She finds out from the Rodeo magazines that Ty is going to ride other bull and where he is at.
Hanna goes to find him. Now the story really starts, as these two have to learn everything
about each other all over again. Deal with Luanne, Ty's brother's Gray and Brady and the rest of the family.
With how each was raise and the secrets between them. There are lot's of twist and turns
and surprises. Some hard to deal with others just made you want to cheer them on
This story is more then a simple romance, or 2nd chance. But one of forgive and learning
to trust and start over.
Not a easy read, but I read it in one morning. If you want a light, fun read, I don't think this book is for you. It has too much real life in it. But good if your looking for a more adult book with feelings.

Received ARC from Netgalley and the aurthor for an honest review, I would like to thank them letting me read this great story.

COLD HEART, WARM COWBOY is the second title in Caitlin Crew’s Cold River Ranch series – it’s an intense, intriguing and completely emotional romance that captured me from the very start.

Ty has done his best to keep the reality and the details of his recent injuries from his family. As far as they know he’s recovering just fine. Truth is – he is not. It’s not possible to be “recovering just fine” when almost two years of your life are a blank slate that no one can fill in for you.

Hannah has tracked Ty down for one reason only, to put an end to whatever they once had together. If he could come up with some answers as to why he’s ignored her and their son she’d love to hear it – or not, at this point she simply wants closure and to move on. Yet when she discovers that Ty truly has no memory of her, their love, the secret marriage because she was a Rodeo Queen or their son, Jack – well, that puts a different light on the last two years of silence. Now she has a different decision to make. Leave or stay – both could break her heart, only one could heal them both for a lifetime.

Ty and Hannah are going to break your heart, and eventually, heal it back again. But that’s going to take some time and some hard truths to come to the surface. COLD HEART, WARM COWBOY is an emotional story on several levels. There’s frustration at Ty’s stubborn refusal to tell his family of his partial amnesia. There is sadness at Hannah’s holding on to the hope that Ty still loves her even when nothing points to that truth. There is anger at the way Hannah was treated by Ty’s family even though it was understandable given the circumstances. There is also relief, laughter, tears, and a sense of finally getting the entire picture and seeing how good this new family can be together.

No book is perfect. That’s just life. And while there were some things that I could have gotten frustrated over by their delivery – it’s just plain silly to do so. Every author in the world has their own style, their own way of telling their story. That’s as it should be. On the flip side, every reader has things that they like better in that story delivery part. Neither side is totally right nor totally wrong. In the end, I let the author tell me their story, after all, it’s been in their imagination for a while now so they should know it best, right?

In all, I had a blast with COLD HEART, WARM COWBOY and I’m now waiting for THE LAST REAL COWBOY to be released in early 2020. If you enjoy a good love story, can handle some sadness knowing there is a reason things have happened as they did, love seeing two people rediscover just why they fell in love in the first place, and a cast of secondary characters that bring the book to life – then you’ll want to pick up COLD HEART, WARM COWBOY.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

COLD HEART, WARM COWBOY releases on July 30, 2019.

This is a second chance romance between a bull rider who was injured and his secret wife who finally goes looking for him after giving birth to their son. There's a lot going on and a lot left unsaid for reasons I never really understood. Ty actually lost two years of his memory, but he hasn't told anyone. Hannah loves her husband, but she can't let anyone know about the marriage and waits a crazy amount of time (to me) to confront Ty. Then you have flashbacks to bits of conversations that pulled me out of the current story in a jarring way. This just wasn't for me, but if you're more into second chance romances and romances with married couples than I am, then this could be a good choice for you.

This is a slow build, a couple of times a bit too slow, in my opinion. But oh, the payoff, it was well worth it! Just a sweet, sweet, happy ending. Nothing too over the top with the story, no crazy plots, nothing unbelievable or outrageous. This is life and family and what you make of it, your outlook, your mindset. This is the first book I've read from this author, but it won't be the last.

Imagine what it feels like to lose two years of your memory, that is what happens to Ty after he gets injured. He pretends to be the happy cowboy until a big missing piece of his life shows up. Hannah is determined to find out the truth of his absence from her life. She is beautiful, fiery and determined. The story looks at the family dynamic and the impact it has on all the characters life. It is filled with introspective musings as they each try to find their truth.

I’m not too big of a fan of the secret baby trope. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, A True Cowboy Christmas, I am not familiar enough with this author yet to know how she handles such things. Rest assured, this is not a tradition secret baby story. As the book description states, Hannah truly never meant to hide their child from Ty.

The way Ty reacts to Hannah whenever they’re near one another is great. Here’s this strong and tough cowboy, who hasn’t even admitted to his family how severe his head injury was in his last rodeo appearance, unable to control his visceral reaction to this woman. A beautiful woman, to be sure. But also a woman he cannot remember. So the fact that his body somehow seems to remember even if his brain doesn’t really took this narrative to a wonderful place for me.

Hannah has so many reasons to tread lightly when it comes to Ty. I don’t agree with all of her decisions, especially once she knew about Ty’s amnesia. At the same time I can’t really fault her for those decisions either. She’s human and therefore has her own baggage that gets in the way when trying to make emotional decisions. While actively reading this book and being immersed in the story there were times I felt it was taking too long. Not the overall story, but the reveals. Be it the truth about Ty, the truth about their marriage, or the truth about Jack. Sometimes I just wanted the characters to spit it out already! Now, in hindsight, I feel the story played out as it should. I don’t know why, I’m sure it has to do with the fact that I can be quite impatient in life.

Although I’m a jeans and t-shirt and no make-up type of woman, I appreciated the author keeping Hannah a rodeo queen. And having Ty like that aspect of Hannah. To be clear, Ty found Hannah attractive no matter what she was wearing and how much makeup was on her face. But he appreciated the overall beauty queen look. A lot of stories almost make fun of a woman who wears rhinestones and big hair and make that aspect of a character a detriment to their personality. The author embraced that part of Hannah’s personality and let her be who she was meant to be.

Ty and his brothers have a hard time communicating. They seem to have an even harder time with being honest with each other. They were all pigeon-holed, first by their father and then by their town, and seem to fall back into those positions whenever they’re together…even if those positions aren’t who they really are in their life otherwise. Ty and Gray have come a long way, but still have far to go. Hopefully, when youngest brother Brady gets his HEA the brothers will have learned to talk things out more productively and more often. I’ll keep enjoying this journey while they try to grow.

Having already met the Everett family, I was curious to read about Ty's story. In A True Cowboy Christmas, it was clear that Ty had issues. In this book we can read what those are: Ty has amnesia. But he doesn't want anybody to know, so he steers clear of everyone. But then suddenly Hannah Monroe is in his way. The beautiful, gorgeous Rodeo Queen claims she is his wife. But why can't he remember her? And why didn't his brother mention her? Surely, if they got married, they would have known? But since he doesn't want his brothers to find out about his amnesia, he can't ask them.
Hannah was taught by her mother to never trust men. Because they will only leave you behind. As proven by Hannah's father, who walked out on her mother, the moment he found out she was pregnant. So, when Ty told Hannah to leave, when he was hospitalized after his rodeo accident, she packed her bags and moved back in with her mother.
But in order to move on with her life, she needs the marriage contract broken. And therefore, she came back to Ty to ask for a divorce. Only to realize that Ty doesn't remember her, her pregnancy, or their marriage at all. Can she divorce him without telling the truth about their son? Or should Ty get a second chance at love? Torn between her heart and her head, Hannah must make a choice. Find out for yourself what will happen in this wonderful and emotional story. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Cold Heart, Warm Cowboy by Caitlin Crews
Cold River Ranch #2

Sweet second chance romance for Rodeo Queen Forever Hannah Leigh Monroe and Bull Rider Ty Everett occurs when Hannah decides to see if a divorce is the solution to moving forward. When she realizes that Ty has amnesia that puts a kink in her plans, though. The two end up spending time together while trying to see if anything is left though Hannah keeps a BIG secret by not telling Ty he is a father and that eventually blows up in her face. There are some bumps and some difficulties for the two to overcome but a HEA for all is finally found for the couple and their son Jack. At times I felt there was more telling than showing the story with the thoughts of the characters rather than the two actually spending time together talking to one another or doing things together.

This book was not my cup of tea and I had a hard time getting through it. I didn't like how long Hannah sat on truths that Ty asked her specifically for. I thought all of that dragged on too long. The way Hannah talked in circles drove me nuts. I also had a hard time dealing with so much inner monologue and flashbacks in the middle of conversations and things seeming like they were finally going to happen. The writing style wasn't something I could get used to either. I did think the characters were strong and well-written characters. The whole family and small-town dynamic worked well along with letting the past sins of your parents rule your life. This just wasn't the book for me. I want to stress that completely. Just because I could not get into this book does not make it bad. It had some great moments but I do not like books that drag out secrets just to make that the conflict in the story so I couldn't quite let myself get immersed in this book because I kept waiting on that secret to drop. And then the way it finally came to light was a little predictable. I guess this story did show the woman fighting hard for the man she wanted and going after him no matter how many times he told her to leave. It was an okay read.

What a great story. This book had me right from the first page, it grabbed hold of my attention & my heart & wouldn’t let go. I didn’t want to put this book down. Hannah & Ty were great, the strength of their characters, the pain they were each going through was something so palpable. I loved how Hannah stood her ground with Ty & how she made him feel their past even though he couldn’t remember it. Watching Ty grow & change was simply amazing. The way his life had fallen apart was sad & the way that he still let his late father run around in his mind was even worse, but to see him take charge after his memory returned was fantastic. He owned up to his mistakes as did Hannah & the secrets kept were no longer secret. This is definitely the type of book I enjoy reading were the heroine & hero have to fight for their future because everyone knows life isn’t easy. Definitely recommend this book.

Cold Heart, Warm Cowboy, by Catlin Crews, is available in booksellers and on-line sites 7-30-19. As part of The Cold River Ranch series it involves the other characters to a small extent but does work standalone. I read book 1, Greys story, and enjoyed it. I can't say the same for Cold Heart, Warm Cowboy, book #2. The characters are nice enough but I never became invested in them. My mind is already on book 3. Ty Everett is brother #2, a rodeo bull rider. He's was stomped but good 2 years ago and has physically recovered. He has no memory of those 2 years but won't tell anyone. I was never sure why, except he's a hard-shelled guy. Hanna is his secret wife, they married before his accident. There's a reason their marriage was kept secret. Anyway, she actually goes home & waits 2 years to track him down. Not believable to me. I also found the internal thoughts to be too much. They don't talk to each other, or anyone else, but are way chatty in their heads. There was also a lot of going over the same subject, beating it to death.

3 stars. I like the concept of this story, the amnesia storyline is definitely a good one, but the heroine was too frustrating for me at times to give more than 3 stars.
I do enjoy Ms. Crews writing though and her ability to give so much depth to her characters, but in this case I really believe it is Hannah's character that caused me to not love this one. This was a second chance for Ty and Hannah because Ty is suffering from amnesia and honestly knows nothing about his past with Hannah so her lack of honesty with him is frustrating for me.
I will definitely read more from this author though as Book 1 in the series was really good. And that is not to say this book isn't a good read, but sometimes one character stands out so much they can determine my opinion.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
