It's been a while since I have read one of B. J. Daniels books. This one didn't do much for me. It should have been a really good, on the edge of your seat, romantic suspense. It wasn't.

There was no real suspense, because you knew the identity of the villains all along. It was just a matter of time before someone acted. Because of that, it was a waste of time to look in anyone else's direction. It was spelled out in detail who did what to whom and why. It kind of takes the fun out of reading the book, at least for me.

Next, Chase and Mary had been in love forever. I didn't get any real sense of their characters. I didn't feel any connection with them. They had no chemistry. I'm not sure why, but it all seemed very superficial. The story moved along at a steady pace, but I either didn't feel anything at all for the characters, or I was irritated by them.

Mary seemed to be extremely naive for her age. She ignored EVERY alarm bell for both Lucy and Dillion. Luckily Chase and her father, Hud had more sense than she did.

Also, what kind of friends were Chase's boss Rick and his wife Patty to KNOWINGLY let him leave with a CRAZY person when he was DRUNK???? They knew she was unbalanced and didn't tell him until it was too late.

There were so many off shoots to this story. Chase and Fiona, Chase and Mary, Mary and Dillion, Mary and Lucy, cattle rustling, crooked cops, crazy stalkers, mystery of Chase's mother wouldn't tell, etc.

I was looking forward to reading this book. I really wanted to like it. I ended up just wanting it to be over.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy received from the publisher via NetGalley.

Another book in the Cardwell Ranch series, and what an awesome addition it is! I loved revisiting Hud and Dana, and their daughter Mary who is one of the main characters in this book. Mary and Chase, childhood sweethearts, have some obstacles to overcome before they can be together. There are a couple of mysteries woven into their story, I hope we get to hear more about one of them in future books.

This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Steel Resolve is a perfectly fine story, with perfectly fine writing. The mystery has a good set up, the romance has a good set up, and generally it was promising. Unfortunately, you find out the main threat’s identity literally on the very first page. As the book developed, I understood why knowing the villain was necessary, but it wasn’t necessary to literally start the book like that when the reveal would have had much better impact by waiting even 30 pages. There is also a secondary threat whose identity is also told to the reader much earlier than it had to be. I think it just kind of ruined the tension that was supposed to be building. I did like the last climactic scene though.

My biggest complaint about this book was the treatment of Mary, the main female character. First of all, she has no personality or flaws. She’s just a pretty, feminine, non-aggressive, family oriented lady, and she’s treated like property by Chase Steele (the main male character) and the other man she is seeing. Chase continually tells her that he’s going to win her back no matter what, that she doesn’t have a choice in their inevitability, that she belongs to him and he’s not going to let her go. In some contexts, this could be romantic, but in this book it just read as creepy and aggressive. Not to mention that the romance itself left something to be desired since it felt like it developed really slowly given that this is supposed to be a romance novel.

So, this book is average at best and not very good to women at worst. Not my favorite.

Chase Steel made the biggest mistake of his life when he moved to Arizona, leaving his love in Big Sky, Montana. When he receives a letter from his love, Mary, he realizes that he needs to go home…to Montana and Mary. The woman he briefly met in Arizona, Fiona, is not happy that he is leaving and returning to Mary. She makes it clear that she will do what is necessary for Chase to be hers. Trouble starts when Chase is delayed due to vandalism to his truck. Was Fiona involved in the vandalism? Surely, she would not be that vindictive. Chase will do all that he can to prove to Mary that he loves her and they belong together. How could he know by returning home, that a crazed stalker would follow him, bringing harm to those he loves. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This is a story of second chance romance with some suspense thrown in. I enjoyed the characters and it moved at a fast pace. This would make a great beach read.

A psychological, murder mystery, emotional love lost, love reclaimed, type romance. Good plot, writing, etc.

Not as much romance, as more murderous plots story, with a happy ever after ending. But still very enjoyable, from a good author.

I had not read a BJ Daniels book in a long time. I had enjoyed them but got sidetracked; however, I will definitely be looking for her books again. This book reminded me of the movie Fatal Attraction in a good way. I loved the movie and also loved this book. Mary Cardwell Savage and Chase Steele have loved each other since their teens. However, Chase had to leave Big Sky, Montana, to see some of the world.

Mary sends him a letter that she misses him and just as he decides to head back to Montana, he meets Fiona Barkley. Fiona decides he is the man for her and follows him. Mishaps ensue so Chase has to work to get Mary's trust again.

I haven’t read a BJ Daniels book in awhile, so I was excited to get the opportunity to review the start of this new series. It is a continuation/spin off of the popular Cardwell Ranch series.

Time is not wasted in this book. From the get go, we meet the hero, the psycho “ex” and find out why he is not with the love of his life. Once he decides to go and get his girl, we meet the heroine and the town folk of Big Sky, Montana.

There are other nefarious goings on in Big Sky and I enjoyed the different story lines within the main story (murder / cattle thieves / biological father search). There was no wondering if Chase and Mary were going to get together, just a matter of when. Chase made it known from the day he returned that he would get Mary back. I’m glad she didn’t just fall into his hands. Helping him find his biological father was a good way for them to spend time together and get to know each other again.

The sprinkle of villains were a nice touch, but Fiona/Lucy definitely wins the psycho award. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

ARC received from NetGalley for an honest review.

In an unprecedented moment Mary pens a love letter to her childhood sweetheart Chase with the attention of never mailing it. Unfortunately the letter is mailed by her Aunt in error but upon reading it Chase realizes that Mary is his one true love and decides to return home. Unbeknown to him, Chase has attracted a stalker, who after one to many drinks trying to forget Mary has a one night relationship with his employer’s wife’s friend Fiona. The chain of events that follows will capture the attention of the reader, plotline well developed and a truly great read.

I received an advanced copy via NetGalley with thanks and the opinions are my own.

STEELE. RESOLVE. by B. J. Daniels
Fiona after 1 night, she felt Chase pulling away from her. She made a key, found a lavender letter from another woman.in his sock drawer. She had been in his apartment many times while he was at work. Now having a name, Mary, wanting to kill her. Catching her in his apartment again, tells her his job is done, and would be leaving. Montana, that where Mary lived.
His boss felt sorry he didn’t tell him about .Fiona, she has done this many times. He remembers seeing her the first time, she sold real estate, acted and dressed like a professional.
An accident and she became Lucy, and then the plan, become friends with Mary. Would he be in time, would she believe he did care about her, was sick with the thought that she might have died in the accident, but no he didn’t love her. Twists and turns with a woman not knowing reality, abused, and not loved. Gripping tale and the author’s books always give us a good story
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion from Net Galley and Harliquin.

Mary and Chase were together for a long time a long time ago. They broke up and Chase left town. After years of being out of contact, Mary reaches out to Chase. Chase is at a point in his life he wants to come home and back to Mary. But he's not the only one to go home. I received my copy from Netgalley. I really enjoyed the story. There were a number of twists and moments of suspense that were done well. The main characters were likable and the story moved at a good pace. I would recommend this book.

What a tangled web Chase found himself in, getting mixed up with a maniac, he has brewed more trouble than he ever could have imagined for himself and his loved ones. Mary’s emotions were seesawing but one thing that was constant was her love for Chase. Now he is in a race against time to save her from a mad woman’s clutches who is also out to cause mayhem in their lives. An intensely intriguing and romantic read which captivates from the very beginning.

Steel Resolve was an easy read with a common story line. There is drama, action and suspense that keeps you flipping the pages.
There are a couple of characters from prior books from this series that appear in this one, however this book is a standalone.
This book was a quick enjoyable read!
