The 7th instalment in the A Lexie Starr Mystery Series - - Marriage and Mayhem is a delight!!

In this book, we find Lexie's daughter and nephew wanting a simple wedding. However, when the best man collapses during the ceremony followed by the florist's assistant chaos ensues.

Autopsy confirms they were poisoned. So now what?

Read the delightful story you will enjoy just as much as I did!!

I had not previously read any of the books in this series, but had no problem starting with book 7. However, I got to 42% before I gave up. It was ALL wedding planning issues. The very first pages had a flash forward death which occurs later in the story then cuts to Lexie's day to day life dealing with her daughter's upcoming wedding. As I mentioned at first, nothing else with the death happens for at least 42% of the book. I wanted to read a mystery, not a chick lit wedding story with a frazzled mother character.

Lexie and the rest of the characters weren't likable at all. Lexie is a doormat who lets people take advantage of her, one of the characters only functions when "buzzed", her daughter seems to be oblivious to other's feelings, etc. None of this was amusing to me. Someone gives Lexie some much helped worth about $100 and she gives her an extra mint on her pillow?!? Consider me insulted for the character. I have heard some people, particularly in the arts, perform better when high on drink or drugs, but I just find it distasteful and a bad example here. The abuse of stimulants should not be used for comic effect, if that was the intent here. Perhaps the character gets helped in the end though.

Can't recommend, especially as a mystery. I got my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Far too much of this story was taken up by the happenings before the wedding which were not remotely interesting. The stilted and awkward dialog also took away from the story’s progression. Lexie as a main character, in particular, came across as painfully judgmental and yet bewilderingly naive at times.

The most memorable, and funny, character by far was the drunken wedding planner. That in itself says a lot to me. It made the book hard for me to read and my attention was not held unless the wedding planner was up to his boozy shenanigans.

There were also times when the same thought was repeated at least three times within the space of a single chapter. I was deeply disappointed when I realized I had guessed the culprit from the beginning of the novel. Some of this book was funny yet not enough to hold my attention. The overall unfolding of the mystery itself did not make this a worthwhile story for me. However, I did think Lariat was a hoot.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me this book in exchange for my honest review.

Marriage and Mayhem by Jeanne Glidewell is the 7th book in the Lexie Starr Mystery Series, and my 2nd by this author. I read book 1, Leave No Stone Unturned, years ago and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to read this latest book. I loved it, I was laughing so hard at some of the unique and crazy characters. I am also very excited that I have 5 new books to catch up on. Lexie is the main character of the books, and she is recently married to Stone. Lexie daughter, Wendy and Stone's nephew, Andy, are getting married in a month. With the wedding coming up quick, what could possibly go wrong? I recommend this book for people who enjoy funny cozy mysteries, you won't be disappointed.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

I thought the first part of this book was boring. It is full of details about the wedding and the planning. It doesn't really get to the mystery of the story until the middle of the book. I enjoyed it from that point where the investigating started. The rest of the book was fast paced and interesting. #MarriageAndMayhemAlexieStarrMysteryBook7 #NetGalley

I received a copy of Marriage and Mayhem (A Lexie Starr Mystery, Book 7) by Jeanne Glidewell through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read in this series. There was no problem reading/understanding this book without reading the previous books. The characters were introduced and facts that were carried through the entire series were included in this story. This is a fun mystery. Lexie gets into multiple situations which are definitely not usual occurrences. Very enjoyable.

It took ages before something happened. That was after a long part on the comical misadventure of a drunken wedding organizer, a lot of characters so perfect you have to suspend your belief.
The drunken wedding organizer was quite funny, unfortunately I found difficult to connect to the characters.
I don't know if I liked it or not, I'd have preferred some less wedding and some mystery.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
