I wanted to love this but I just didn't connect with the story. Not sure why because the writing was well done but the story could not hold me. I will how ever keep my eye on this author.

Lanie is a sex slave. Kept by her Master, Winston, and taken out only when he wants her to entertain. She has been taught to be submissive, to pleasure others, and to never take pleasure for herself. One day comes, this day is different, her Master is selling her. All Lanie is wondering about is whether this new Master will be as cruel as her other one.

Roman feels the absolute need to buy Lanie and save her from the cruelty of the other buyer. There is something about this woman, no girl, that just draws him to her. Who is this girl? Where did she come from? How did she come to be in the possession of Winston?

This story has such great potential but the author did not capture it. The mystery surrounding Lanie and how she got to be in Winston's tender care was a great start. When that part of the story came to an end, it was poorly written and very anticlimactic. The developing relationship between Lanie and Roman again was a great start, but it was lacking depth and development. The whole book sorely lacked character development and all those details that make the story speak to the readers. This felt more like a highly detailed synopsis of a much better book.

Bought was probably not the best place to start. It’s nice, simple purple and white cover ends up being a story of women being bought and sold as sex slaves, and the man who is a hero to the female protagonist because he frees her from the sexual slavery that he complicitly condones as a participant. I had hoped to include links to each of these on Amazon for those who were interested, but Bought appears to not exist on there, so I wonder if I wasn’t the only one who felt strongly about it.

Review will appear at provided link by 5/30/19.

Based on the premise, I thought I would enjoy this book, and, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it...to a point. As "Cinderella-type" stories go, I like the fact that Alannah was rescued from the horrible situation she was forced into, and that situation was indeed horrible. I also appreciated Roman's care of her throughout the book, however, I felt that the relationship between them developed too quickly. He should have taken more time to allow Alannah to just enjoy being free. Also, I would have liked to see Roman take steps to shut Winston down and make sure he couldn't enslave any other girls the way he did Alannah. Overall, this book was...ok. Nothing spectacular and somewhat under developed.

This was a highly disappointing book. I realize it is a short story, but if you leave out so much of the substance, it shouldn't be published. Lanie is trapped in an old mansion, with a "master" who is selling her. She's 19, and hasn't left the mansion since she came there when she was 5. Basically she's a sex slave. The end of the book tries to explain why she ends up there, but it falls very short of doing that. I just didn't get why Roman purchased her to begin with. Really disappointed.
Thank you for your review.

I wanted to like this story as the premise started out very interesting but as it went along it was totally unbelievable.
First off we didn't get the deets on Roman as a person- obviously he buys people or he wouldn't have been invited to purchase Alanna, but all we know is he owns a BDSM club and the usual " girls" Winston sells are prostitutes. Does he own them, does he free them and offer a job, or does he have them work off their debt?
Next he purchased her because he seemed to understand something was wrong and she was afraid, it is slightly more than implied that he wants to save her/ help her but then he kisses her- we don't see an internal struggle over ethics or anything even when he has sex with her knowing she has been trained to please and knows nothing else. We do see her internal struggle over feeling pleasure but not wether this is something she actually wants or is it just what she has been trained to accept.
We also don't get the inside view on what really went down between her dad and Winston, what would make the father of a 5 year old girl give her up to that sort of life? And what actually happened in that old mansion- it was alluded to that she " serviced " men , but how did it start and what exactly did she have to do?
All in all this felt like a partially finished short story, I didn't really care about the characters as I didn't have the time or enough information on them.

Short but sweet...though the storyline is not very convincing, the writing is good and the two main characters are adorable.

This is a fast-paced dark read. Lanie has been hidden away in the attic from the rest of the world but now she is ready to be sold to a new master. Roman purchases her and is a kind master, will he be a kind one? This was a good read for me, I just wish it had been longer, it had so much more potential.

I am not sure where to even start with this story. Honestly, I think A.L. Long did themselves a disservice by having this story only be 80 or so pages. I think that there was so much potential for this to be a 300-400 page novel, that because of its length, it fell so short for me.

We have Alannah or Lanie who was taken at the age of 5 and taught how to be a submissive. For 14 years she was over looked and never purchased from her master until Roman comes along. Roman is a dominant, but sees that Lanie needs more than to just be a submissive and after seeing her for the first time he knows that he won't let the other bidder have her. He spends an obscene amount of money to get her away from her master.

When I first started reading this book, I was thinking maybe it would be similar to Tight by Alessandra Torre. That was not the case at all. When I realized it was not going to be like that, I was thinking that maybe it would be more of a BDSM type store where one master was done with his sub and he was selling her off. I didn't think that she was kept against her will.

Let's get to the fact that this was listed under the erotica section on Netgalley. There was nothing erotic about this story. Erotica usually has a lot of sex. Every type of sex imaginable. This story had to sex scenes and they were meant to be soothing and sweet for Lanie's benefit to show her that she can have pleasure just as much as she can give it. To say I was disappointed in the lack of detail would be an understatement.

Most erotica has words like, "pussy", "cunt", "cock", "dick", "fuck", "wet", "hard", this story had none of those. Spoiler, when Lanie masturbated, "she stuck her finger into her vagina." Vagina. Let's talk about that word for a minute. I have one. All females do, but when I think about touching myself, I don't think about putting my fingers into my vagina, the words pussy or cunt come to mind. I understand biologically that is what it is called, but I can't call my nether regions a vagina do sexy time. It just isn't sexy.

Next, let's get into the two sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, they were sweet and I am glad they happened, but it could have used a lot more detail. When I read these types of scenes they are meant to elicit a sexual response. I got nothing. I was hoping we would get a little more than him undressing her and then doing the deed. You didn't even get a deed description or an idea of what Roman looked like naked or even what Lanie looked like naked. We don't even know if he was packing down south.

I had high hopes for this short story and I am sad to say I was disappointed. With that said, I did like A.L. Long's writing, but I feel like maybe they need to either switch to just romance or maybe get a little more comfortable with being a little more descriptive. There are so many erotic/ new adult sexy novels that aren't vulgar. I love reading Alessandra Torre, M. Robinson (although she can be a little vulgar, but I love that.), Anna Todd, JR Ward even.

If you want to write sex, do it. I will read it, but if you are a little worried, than maybe think of a new genre or if it makes you uncomfortable than I don't think that is the genre for you. That's not to say that A.L. Long was uncomfortable, but just based on what I read in this, I don't think sex was something this author was sure about.

Crossed too many boundaries for me, I know people like their romance and erotic literature dark but this was basically too far, taken as a child, exploited and the man who bought her continued to exploit her . No matter how it’s wrapped up, he isn’t any kind of saviour and it’s just wrong completely.

3 STARS for Bought - Last Chance series
Author - A.L. Long

ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own.

This is a short read but for me there were too many gaps in the storyline.

Alanna has been with Master Winston since the age of (5). We assume that she was given to him by her father in exchange for payment on some debt. Master Winston teaches her to be a submissive and one can assume she is also punished for not following instructions. Alanna is basically locked away like a princess in a tower & only when two men compete in a bidding war for her is she able to leave from being held captive in the Winston mansion.

Roman bids 500K for Alannah & saves her somewhat predictable they fall in love - pretty much end of story.

The story is a strange erotic romance. It lacks any sexual punch and the romance is based on exploitation.
Basically having reached an age, Allanah is ready to be sold for profit by her master.
As a submissive she has already been used for other men’s pleasure. Now it some weird auction some respectable businessman is prepared to pay over the odds for his prize because of her beauty.
I found this premise incomprehensible and her saviour less than gallant however noble his own commentary.
I liked the alternating between the male and female protagonists to recount this tale. However, I could not take a relationship serious where money had changed hands and the right course of action for any decent person would have been to expose these practices rather than benefiting from them.
